A baby boomer reads her first (and last) Manga
I read this book as part of a reading challenge. I really am genuinely interested in expanding my reading life and reading out of my comfort zone. As part of that process you will find new things to love and new things to dislike. Really dislike. Dislike a lot. Manga is read back to front. Each page is read right to left and top to bottomish. That was no problem, except I think I may have read a few of the middle page panels out of order. I was able to follow the story for the most part but I definitely felt like I was missing some vital information. Or maybe a section of the book was missing? Perhaps this is not the first volume in the series (despite being labeled volume 1)? I guess the numbers may be backwards too. Or maybe the plot was really boring?I use the term plot very loosely here. There was no plot. Basically, a girl named Sawa Mitoma is starting high school. She is a scared little mouse with no self esteem. Her living situation is tenuous. It appears the rent has not been paid and her mother is “not at home.” Sawa spends her days worrying about offending people and doing something wrong. She anticipates that she will always be in trouble for something. For no apparent reason, she is befriended by two older male students who invite her to be on the student council. She does not realize that they are part of the Sohmas family, which is a big deal for unclear reasons. She steps on one of the boys by mistake. Some girls at school are jealous of her while others welcome her and want to be friends. Toward the end, a group of students go to the Sohmas’ home and make sukiyaki. The end.I rarely give one star reviews, but I could not find anything to like here. I can only assume that I am missing something important since this is such a highly rated book. Please leave a comment if you can shed some light on this for me. As covered above, I did not like the story. I also did not care for the overwrought emotion, though I know that this is part of the Manga style. Emotionally over-reactive teens are of no interest to me and I don’t think this is good role modeling for already hysterical youth. Even more potentially destructive is the main character’s total lack of self esteem. If there was growth and change in her character then I missed it. My final critique is the art work. I just don’t care for the appearance and features of the characters, which is a totally personal opinion. For some reason, they make me think of Holly Hobby dolls (Google it, kids!) In summary, I am glad that I tried this genre. I learned that I really don’t like it.

Great Sequel of an Amazing Manga
I enjoyed it. It centers around the children of the Zodiac characters from the original series and introduces a new outcast befriending the Sohma clan. We unfortunately don't get to see our beloved Zodiac this time around, but the author teases us with what they've been up to when the new characters talk about "their parents" with their friends. You don't have to read the first series to understand this one, but considering it LOOKS like a pretty stereotypical story about a bunch of high school kids at first glance, you will have to read the main series to truly appreciate its value and complexity. The main series is called "Fruits Basket" and it's amazing, so check it out.

Way to go!!
I cannot wait for the next book. I did feel a little deja vu from the original series but hey this is a continuation/spinoff of the first series so to be expected. All in all I'm in this for the long haul.

I’M IN A GLASS CASE OF EMOTION
Natsuki Takaya is a genius, who knows exactly how to stir emotion.I don’t want to spoil ANYTHING, not a SINGLE THING, the only thing I WILL say is that I’m very excited to see some sort of continuation for Fruits Basket. It was my childhood and will always hold a special place in my heart! So it was wonderful to see the products of their labor after their fight for a normal life.

Cute, fun throwback for veteran readers
I don't think anyone coming to this manga for the first time will get a great experience out of it- if you don't know what to hold your breath for, things like random character introductions and names mentioned in passing won't make much sense to you. But if you're someone who read through the original and it was important to you, this was a fantastic follow up. There are a few minor characters from the first series that show up, but mostly, familiar characters are mentioned by nothing more than name, or as someone's family member.

Amazing as always!
I’ve waited years for this manga to come out after finishing the original series. Once rumors spread about this I couldn’t wait for it to come out! I still re read the original to this day all the time. It never gets old. Now I’m just waiting for info on a reboot to the anime!

Fruits basket does it again
I love this story as much as I love the original. I wish we could see the adult versions of the main original cast, but it’s not unlike the original where there’s a lack of an adult presence.

Great story
Great book and history my complaint is with the seller it has some minor scratches on the front and one of the pages it’s blurry (unsure how this happened) but for some of us the collect this books The look it’s very important and it will be much appreciated if they were handle a bit more careful.

Basically Canon Fan Fiction
The core plot is just a re-tread of themes explored in the original (socially awkward, insecure girl taken under the wing of an ever-growing party of handsome strangers) but it's done well, the humour is great and it was compelling enough for me to order the other two volumes as soon as I finished reading. The main reason to read it, though, is for the satisfaction of confirming if the Sohma couples (at least those revealed so far) panned out and had kids, what side-characters ended up doing, and the occasional references to the old characters (particularly, one now notorious uncle). In short, I'd describe it as wholesome fan service and worth reading if you're happy with more of the same.

Does not have the same Fruits Basket Magic
Although the Story is nice it lacks the magic the orginal Fruits Basket had. I felt the characters where too much of a copy of their parents and didn't bring their own personality with them. The book I got was badly printed which made it so much harder to enjoy the story or even read it in some parts.I got it for a Christmas present and am only now reading it so I can not return it for another copy either

Beautiful artwork.
Beautiful Artwork, pages are clear to read and see.Only given 3 stars due to the minor damage on the cover. I assume this happened when being packaged.Thankfully, the damage isnt more noticeable.
