Can I operate this unit with infrared remote control?

Yes, you can use the wall and the remote at the same time. It did take me a while to find the plug that you connect to, and the directions weren’t very clear. The plug is in the right side and you want to make the connection before you mount the wall unit.

Is the temperature of the room based off the unit or the controller once connected to the system?

You can choose either one. I like to use the remote so where I’m sitting it’s my desired temperature.

Will this fit models umat18hp230v1ac?

The XK-76 - Programmable Command Center is only compatible with GREE wall mount units. The Umat18 would need Gree wall controller model xk60
