Container Garden Mulch
Pros: -Packaging: straw comes in a fuss-free thin plastic bag that I lifted out of the Amazon box and walked straight out to the backyard. Nothing to unzip, untie, or puncture. Easy to carry, too -- light as a feather. -Clean: straw arrived clean and dry, no dirt, and an appealing light yellow color. Looks swanky in my garden several weeks later. -Effective: working so far to slow evaporation and retain water in my garden containers -- has cut down on my need to water via watering-can, which is the #1 reason I bought it. -Gentle/Soft: I direct sow everything. We tend to think of straw as scratchy, but this straw was gentle enough to mulch over my freshly planted muskmelon seeds and sweet potato slips. All came up just fine, no tearing injuries. Cons: -Not a Pest Barrier: again, not why I bought it, but pests had no problem burrowing through the straw to get to my yummy seedlings. Solve your pest problems with floating row covers, not mulch. -Not a Weed Barrier: not sure if grass clippings from my husband's lawn mower flew through the air and embedded in my containers, or whether the straw was contaminated with seeds. Possibly the latter. Either way, I had to weed out some grassy green stalks that sprouted out of some HUGE seeds (only from the mulched containers, and for the first time this growing season, ie: since April 6th.) Still, only a minor annoyance that took about 10 minutes to pluck out. -Messy Application: because it is so light, some bits of straw flew away during application and scattered over the yard. Not the seller's fault, just something to be aware of for the consumer. -Complicates Fertilizer Application: with this product, you need to either move the straw aside (pain in the butt) to side dress with granular fertilizer, or plan ahead by sowing in compost and/or fertilized medium. This goes for most soil amendments done during the growing season. You can always foliar spray, though. Would I buy it again? Heck, yeah!

Great for the community cats.
I have several community cats that I provide shelter, food and water for. My main concern was shelter since the weather tends to get pretty cold in the fall/winter, especially this year. Plus we also have lots of rain. I put the straw in with self-heating pads and they shortly after made themselves at home and comfortable and would stay in there all day except to eat/drink. Apparently they also like to play with the straw lol but it's easy to clean up and it has been staying dry in the homes. Good sized amount than expected and will be buying again.

Perfect raised bed top-cover mulch!
Clean, light and airy -- large and "raw enough" to not clump or compact after watering - a plus! Very little wheat seed to be found in 12 lbs of this, so perfect for garden top dress/mulch...I used 12 lbs to cover 4 raised beds (each about 3' x 6' to 3" 8' each) about 2" to 4" deep as well as a few other areas that get hit hard with out Central CA valley sun in the summer. Not only will this help to keep soil temps regulated, but water saving will be incredible from much less evaporation. Added bonus of using straw like this for mulch? The light color of the straw reflects more sunlight back at your plants and their leaf undersides...oh yeah! :)

Full of dead bugs
Giving 3 stars due to the last box that I just rec'd. The first box was flawless, nice and clean. Had a nice sealed bag that was placed in a box. Second order is full of dead bugs and the bag was not sealed at all. I hope all the bugs were dead on arrival since it sat in my house for a few days before I needed it. Will keep since the straw is used in feral cat houses to keep them warm but I probably will not buy from this supplier again. Very disappointed
