Product review - GOgroove FlexSMART X5 Bluetooth FM Transmitter Car Kit w/ Hands-Free Calling
GOgroove FlexSMART X5 Bluetooth FM Transmitter Car Kit w/ Hands-Free Calling, Music Playback, USB Charging & Mounting Options - Works w/ Apple , Samsung , LG & More Smartphones , Tablets & MP3 Players Overall Product score is 3.0 out of 5.0 purely based on its sound quality and application usage;Product Usage:Positives in usage- Great battery life (internal) lasts me atleast 4-5 days for usage (with atleast 2 hrs of driving everyday);- Various charging options either using USB input at home or directly using the connecting DC barrel and dock in a car lighter port (DC);- Connecting to a phone is quite simple and doesnt take more than 10 seconds once switched on, all hands free application;- LCD Display is quite elegant and Hi quality compared to millions of other Chinese made unbranded ones- usage is quite easy while searching for a new FM channel free to transmit/stream your phone- Visor mount is handy if neededNegatives in Usage:- When used on visor mount, the distortion increases (could be because of the FM channels I have tried in the Melbourne sub-urban areas I travel/live in). When put on the DC barrel, the static sounds and distortion reduces *but still remains- I was using a $20 Kmart generic FM transmitter before using this (Non-bluetooth and used with a 3.5mm audio cable in the phone), and its static etc was much better than this. I am unsure if I made the right choice in going for this high quality and high priced product.- The quality of the microphone when used in the handsfree mode in the car is distorted too, the other person hearing to my voice wasnt able to hear proper words without any breaking issues etc. I was able to hear everything properly - loud and clear- The internal volume travels to a max of 30 units in this item. Put to max and if car volume kept at similar levels, this product volume is much lesser than the other two products that I have recently used. You need higher volume levels when using GoGroove flexsmart X5.- After using it for almost a month, I have decided to sell it on ebay for a loss of what ever dollars I will face, but looking at product reviews of MPOW Streambot, I will give that product a try.- The DC barrels is quite rigid which is good and bad. Its not very flexible and the length of the barrel (you would assume) should be sufficient for most cars when inserted in a DC port near your gear knob area - the voice to the other person isnt clear from whereever this is placed. If I put the GoGroove flexsmart X5 near my shirt collar area, then the voice to the other person is clear. Defeats the purpose of it being handsfree. Compared to the other two products I used, I could be easily heard and could have conversations if the other product was with a passenger in the car.- all push buttons as shown in the images are too much within the body of the hub and are NOT protruded. Its hard to find a button to do something if you are not looking at the hub. I guess too much of quality aligned surfaces dont allow for identification of which button I needed to press when needed e.g. next track or pause etc.Finish and looks and accessories:This product looks great, has a great finish and excellent elegant black chrome and steel grey colour comnination finish on the front;Very soothing LCD display lights - not too bright in the night.Visor mount is NON-detachable, I was expecting it to be detachable if not needed.Happy to give any further details over and above whats here. Please feel free to ask me. I paid over $110 to but this and get this delivered to me in Melbourne Australia. There hardly are any options for similar FM transmitter products in the local market here. I bought this as I wanted to avoid the costs included in changing the Head unit and all the other items associated with changing the car stereo unit in my Landrover Discovery 3. The cost of that is around $500 including installation of handsfree remote that get done on the car steering (giving a look and feel of how latest car manufacturers install the bluetooth enabled stereo systems). It be better to go with that option if your first preference is quality streaming of music and handfree calling. This is a part time solution for that and will not give ultimate sound experience as what I was after. Look at your priorities and see what solution suits you best is my advise. Cheers.

Big disappointment for a lot of money
I paid for this, didn't get a freebie for posting good reviews.Unit arrived fine, nicely packaged, assembly can be done by an idiot, all good so far.Instructions are bunk, verge on non-existent, not fatal if everything works plug n play. Only one instruction line is of value: Unit enters pairing mode when turned On.Unit has AutoSeek mode for finding a "clear" FM frequency and its bunk; it settled on well used frequencies EVERY single time, and usually one w/even decimal point (xx.2, xx.4, xx.6...) whereas my radio only tunes to xx.1, xx.3, xx.5... So you need manual methods to find a clear channel on your own w/your radio first, then short-press (iirc) the round dial/button followed by rotating unit's dial to get to your clear channel. Anybody who lives in a crowded city w/lots of channels active will find this maddening, see Amazon's Service Crew review.Pairing with phone (samsung note2) is bunk; it took a long time to pair for phone features ONLY but would NOT sync to play music which is the only reason I spent the money (I have a good noise cancelling BT earpiece which works great). So I used the included 3.5mm cord. If your phone isn't up to max volume output, you suffer a lot of interference on the FM channel swap to your radio, mine has a high pitch whine in tune w/engine RPMs (a problem most cars had decades ago w/FM radio, so you'd think these clowns would have solved that filtering problem, but NO, these designer's must be noob's). There is also a lot of other static on low volume. After I figured the volume issue out, I got good sound reproduction on the vehicle stereo output, and volume is now controlled best by radio volume knob. Remember to kick that back down when you disconnect each time BTW or you are in for another bad experience when you switch to other functions either on phone or radio. On bluetooth (which takes a stupid long time to sync up compared to every other BT device I've ever encountered, about 5-10x as long), and after 3 or 4 sync/unsync cycles, it finally paired for music transmission which is a separate function to checkbox on my phone. About 50% of volume is lost thru BT connection, so you crank it up way high on both the radio AND your phone. BUT!! The sound quality is now complete garbage with lots of static, & the sympathetic engine RPM whine again overtakes the experience. Unless you are deaf to high pitched whine, this isn't acceptable. So for me, the bluetooth part of this gizmo is utterly useless, more marketing hype than reality.Controls do not work when on the 3.5mm cord, so those features are bunk, can't skip a song or replay from the X5, you have to tee up your phone controls which is kinda NOT the point of a "hands free" device. So, if there was good fidelity on BT at all levels and all controls worked there (I didn't bother to test controls on BT as it wasn't worth listening anyway), this'd have 4 stars, and if it didn't have sync problems it'd have 5. Form factor is good and adaptable, looks OK. It just works lousy on its biggest selling features ("efforless BT" & "scan seeking" a good FM channel), and requires yet another cord messing up my dash to get music playing decently. This was a big disappointment, and I wouldn't recommend it for $65. Maybe worth $25 if they didn't pretend the BT was professional.

Great product, but a bit fiddly...
Works as advertised. One of the better FM transmitters. Have yet found the need to adjust frequencies when commuting, which was always the biggest being of my life.Only criticism is that the buttons are awful. When you're driving they're quite difficult to locate and to use them you really have to force them. Only really works with the usb charger plugged in, acting as an arial. Really helps boost the signal. As such, really not practical using the visor attachment.

Exactly what I needed.
I love my car, but the stereo isn't Bluetooth, and all my music is online now. I was tired of the same old CDs, and can't bear Jeremy Vine. I bought a small Bluetooth speaker for the car, but the sound just didn't compare to the full stereo speakers. Then I found this, and life is perfect again.I got it up and running in about 2 minutes, without needed to do more than glance at the instructions. It works fantastically, is a small and natty little gadget. Not had it long enough to use the battery function yet, not the hands free phone part. But I only wanted it for the music any way, and it does that perfectly.

the X5 is awesome, seems to be clearer & louder sound
Had the X3, the X5 is awesome, seems to be clearer & louder sound. The handfree works a lot better, the mics on it are a lot better quality then the X3 etc, so the other person can hear you without having to raise your voice,

Best in it's class
Great bit of kit. I tried quite a few Bluetooth devices and found this one to be the best. Defiantly worth that extra few pounds
