A serious step up into serious spearfishing
After years of spearfishing with hand spears and Hawaiian slings I decided it was time to step up to a "serious" speargun. I was planning a 5-day trip to the Florida Keys and started doing my research. After reading countless articles and watching dozens of videos I decided on the AB Biller 42 Special. It shipped quickly and I used it every day of my 5 day hunting trip. This is a great size for intermediate-distance hunting. If you are planning to do lots of "blue water" shooting for tuna-class fish you might want to consider a longer gun but for me it was perfect. The accuracy was amazing and distance was a solid 10-plus feet reliably.I can also tell you that after dozens of shots into the bottom, rocks and coral the tip is still as sharp as the day I got it. Very tough. I did have to make sure to tighten the tip after every shot. It fell off twice the first day and I was lucky to have found it both times. The straps are strong but not overly difficult to cock. My 12 year old was able to cock the gun though it was a strain. When you get into the world of "real" spear guns AB Billers are considered an entry level gun but they have a good reputation for reliability and value in their price range. I have found mine to be all that I hoped it would be.

Robust and reliable gun. Shaft is bulky and feel slow sometimes, but almost indestructible.
You can hit a tank with this thing and it'll bounce like nothing happened. Very precise also if you are careful of not messing up the position of the bands. Powerful between its range (3 x shaft length), but near the maximum range it can lose momentum really fast because of the heavy shaft. I mostly use it in shallow water, 30 to 80' but I don't believe going deeper can be a problem. Now, not speargun is perfect for everything. Having a bulky spear makes some medium to long shoots kind of slow against fast fish. I also feel like the release mechanism is not the quicker around.Use it with confidence when you need to hit fish under a rock.Don't use it for long shoots at free swimming fish, get closer and personal for more effectiveness.Maintenance: Rinse with fresh water... if you want.

Great Speargun that wont rot and lasts for YEARS! Padauk is the best wood for spearguns!
I love this gun! Very happy with this purchase. AB BILLER makes an excellent lasting product. Vary quick to load which is a plus when you have a nice school of fish! Powerful enough to take down 40 in grouper with ease! The Padauk wood is excellent at resisting wear and rot!I have had mine for a couple years and I am Very happy with it. I have friends that have more expensive guns that have weird loading mechanisms with putting away the string and I am able to get off 2 to 3 shots to their one. The spear it comes with will last you a long time. The head does not need to be sharpened often either. Also very quiet under water unlike the aluminum guns which really echo under water. The gun does come with a safety but the biggest safety will always be the user. I never load my gun unless ready to shoot and never EVER point it loaded or not loaded at another human being.Would definitely recommend this product

Good, could be better..
This is my first speargun, so I don't have much to compare it to. However, there are a few things that I like and a couple things that could also be better.I live in Montana and use this gun to spear Northern Pike in freshwater lakes. Pike (that I see) in general will range from 2lbs to 20lbs. Pike habitat is mostly on the bottom of thicker weedy areas 5-15' of water. That said, I went with the 32" speargun for mobility.I really like how easy it is to aim. I had never before speared with a gun and the first time I took it out, I was about 80% from 5' +- away. There aren't really any sights, you just have to look down the shaft which seemed to work well enough for me.. I like the guide rail in the middle of the gun, I would imagine it improves accuracy. I like the range a speargun offers vs a spear pole..I don't like the spear tip that it came with. Even when using both bands, the spear tip on occasion will not penetrate deep enough for the flaps to open up on the other side of the fish. But on many occasions, the majority of the shaft will zip right through.. Not sure what's going on there, but if the flaps were closer to the tip, I'd like it more. Also, the bands are somewhat weak. You can buy stronger, thicker bands that I imagine would help a bit with full penetration. The safety is a nice feature, but there is no locking to it. It's just like moving a free lever with minimal resistance. But it is better to have that than nothing at all.The gun does not float! Maybe it's not supposed to, but I for some reason thought it did. I get nervous reloading it in case something slips out of my hand and it sinks to the bottom. I'll be attaching some sort of cable from the gun to myself at some point so I'm more comfortable.Well, I hope some of you found my experience helpful. I am new to this sport, so I apologize if I stated anything obvious. Overall, I would recommend this gun. You can get replicable tips, different bands and... There are ways to modify it to your liking is what I'm saying.Happy spearing!

Was sent a 48 not the 42
I had a 42 inch biller before that I loved so I’m basing this review off of both experiences. I got this one in the mail and took it spear fishing in the keys the following week. It seemed harder to maneuver underwater than I remembered the last one. After a week of using it I realized they sent me a 48 inch gun and not the 42. Seemed like a win since the 48 is more expensive but the 42 worked better for the size fish I go after so it ended up not being as good as my previous 42 inch gun. Since I used it all week I didn’t bother trying to exchange it. The 42 was accurate, easy to maneuver underwater, and shot with good power. Would recommend a 42 any day of the week

Great customer service
My son has this gun and loved it so much that he bought it for a friend for his birthday. The gun arrived on time and all was good except the butt was damaged. I contacted the seller and was advised that a replacement would be sent. It arrived and all is good. Great customer service and a great gun if you are into shooting fish for dinner. :)
