Self Help for LD
The author of this book is an otherwise normal individual who suffered brain trauma as a result of an accident. After recovering, he was left with a permanent hidden scar of this accident in the form of ADD, Attention Deficit Disorder, and some evidence of AD/HD, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorders. As a self-help book as is the case of many I have perused over the years, they tend to be superficial in their treatment of the subject matter. This is true of this book as well, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. In my research on Learning Disabilities, there are a lot of studies completed since the 1960's, and most do not focus on the interventions and the results for compensating for these types of hidden disabilities. You will notice I keep emphasizing "hidden" disability and that is because there is often no physical deformity or scars that indicate the presence of ADD-AD/HD or other learning disability. The author's focus within the book is on teaching strategies that he had to learn to become an independent and self-sufficient individual, and successful in his academic and post-academic efforts. Some of you, myself included, will recognize these behaviors as OCB or OCD, Obsessive-Compulsive Behavior or Disorder.I, also, recognize these behaviors as necessary for these individuals to survive and be successful in our world: everything has a place and everything in its place. A disruption of this behavior by a well-meaning or otherwise person can result in chaotic behavior to re-establish this order, and until order is restored, the ADD-AD/HD individual is unable focus on the work at hand.Sadly, this disruption is often the activity of a prankster or bully who thinks it is funny when, in fact, the results are anything but funny. The behavioral and learning strategies presented in the book offer an insight into how individuals learn to be successful and compensate. Ironically, many of these techniques can be found in other self-help books about habits and techniques used by very successful individuals in our society. So, whether you are reading this book as a parent, a concerned significant other, as part of a course in LD's, or someone who has been diagnosed and assessed with learning disabilities (myself), I believe you will find some value and understanding in this text.Respectfully,MJR

My worst purchase
I have never been so frustrated by something I bought on Amazon (not the company's fault of course). I researched for a long time before picking this book, but when it came I was so disappointed because it talked about normal things that everybody would know, such as how to do your laundry. Not how to remember to do it or how to not get distracted halfway through and walk away and leave it soaking wet for three days, but literally how to do your laundry. This was annoying because if I wanted a book teaching me the basics of adult living skills I would have bought one but I wanted a book specifically about college strategies for ADD.Also, the author includes a LONG section about his personal faith beliefs and his new age opinions on morality. THE LONG SECTION HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ATTENTION DEFICIT DISORDER AND ALMOST NOTHING TO DO WITH COLLEGE!!!! If I wanted a book about choosing spirituality I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT ONE!!!!!!I was VERY disappointed with this book. I wanted to return it with a disgruntled letter but I only paid one cent for it. I didn't even want to send it to the thrift store because then someone else might buy it!

Worthwhile for college population
I work with college students. Although this book is out of date for the terminology (it is ADHD), it does a pretty good job of helping with every aspect of the disorder. Sometimes it felt too personal to the author, but overall, I would say it is a good purchase.

No need for ADD, this book is filled with info any college student would find useful.
This book has a lot of information in it. I guess I accidentally bought the kindle and hard copy version so I have it with me whenever but I prefer the paper version. It is filled with info that any college student would find useful. I don't lend it out anymore because it's a hard one to get back! I still refer back to it.There is a lot of life skills information that is great for people wishing to minimize the use of medication.

College Confidence With ADD
An easy read for both the parent and the teenage child. Very informative in regards to preparing an ADD student for what they should expect at college and what they can do to make the experience less painful. I think it is very realistic and doesn't"sugar-coat" the expectations of the college experience.

I am a tutor; I am helping multiple students with their college plans with this book
A number of my students have ADD. As a result they need a lot of tutoring. One of the things I do as their tutor and life coach is to help them design learning strategies, and work-arounds. It is essential that the become proactive with their learning and classroom management. This book will help them succeed. I strongly recommend this book as a nice foundation for students.

A great read for anyone with ADHD
I found this book chock full of great strategies and advice for ADHD and school. The author has put his heart into this. I'm the mother of two teens with ADHD; I've read a ton of books on the subject but find this the most useful. This will really speak to you and give you strategies before problems pop up!
