Keena Ford and the Field Trip Mix-Up

Popular with kids in tutoring program. Love the visit to DC & the Capitol. We need children to know abt government!

This is a great book that my kids can relate too. It's age appropriate and on their reading level. A big plus is that the characters are of people of color, representation matters. It's also funny as well because the characters have little fights with friends and siblings and my kids get "it" from my point of view and understand how they sound.

My second grade granddaughter has taken to the Keena Ford books. This is the second book in the series. Keena is a fun realistic character that makes one chuckle and remember what it is like to be young. It is easy to relate to Keena’s situations. A win win for a young reader.

My daughter and I read about Keena every Saturday morning and so far I'll have to say this one was my favorite. Keena really Keena in this one. I can't wait to read about her mom's reaction to all the mischief Keena was able to do in that short time.

In her second book, second grader, Keena Ford lives with her middle-school-age brother and mother in Washington, DC. Her father lives in Maryland, and she and Brian visit him on weekends. Her class is preparing for a major field trip to the capital. Not only does she have a big mishap with her hair before the trip, it is the first of many. Keena doesn't want to be the line leader for her class, she always wants to be the last in line, the "caboose." She is usually outsmarted by Tiffany and getting to be the "caboose" becomes a real issue for Keena. This issue for Keena spills over - literally - to Representative Thomas, the house representative for her district.With insight into the emotions and thoughts of a small girl, the author has made this character into a real character. Keena's misadventures will make all readers laugh. When running for the student council, Keena's poster read, "You'll never be bored with Keena Ford. " Neither will readers.
