Interesting read
My 10 year old grandson read this book for a book report. I read all the books he has to read. I thought this was an unusual book talking about Hades and the Underworld but it didn't seem to phase a 10 year old. I would not have liked to have been assigned this book when I was ten, but since the kids today are into Harry Potter, etc., I'm guessing this type of story is not unusual to them. The story itself about friends rescuing a friend was a good read.

Love, Love, Love Tony Abbott
Tony Abbott writes books that are popular with the 8 to 12 year old range. His series are just so engaging and well written that even I enjoy reading and reviewing them.THE BATTLE BEGINS is the first book in a series that has a Percy Jackson-Light meets The Diary of a Wimpy Kid feeling. There are mythical creatures and gods and some funny moments like when the lunch ladies turn into Valkyries.Highly recommend this one. It's guy-friendly and a good choice for reluctant readers.Pam T~mom/kidlit blogger

Great read! Kids love
My eight year old loves these. Got the first two and will be ordering the 2nd two in the series. Much cheaper than the big box stores and my kids always love getting a box in the mail. The story line is easy to follow and entertaining for the little ones.

Good for ages 9-11
Read to my son at bedtime. He really enjoyed it and it wasn't painful for me to read to him. We will undoubtedly read the next one. There was a decent mythology storyline. Think Percy Jackson-lite.

fun fantasy adventure
This was a quick fun adventure story in the style of 'Percy Jackson' . This book is intended for middle school -aged readers but even at age 21 it was a fun quick read in under an hour. It reminded me of Harry potter, Percy Jackson, and the old Ray Harryhausen monster adventure movies.
