0000122 / 30002100 Vermont Castings Fountain Assembly (Defiant or Encore N/C, Dutchwest & EWF30)

Not really being on for reviews....Our Dutch West 2478 wood stove was in desperate need of repair as the fountain assembly, which is made of asbestos, had crumbled across the top and on 2 of the side walls. This was causing interior chamber flashing and not allowing the non-catalytic feature to work properly while burning wood. Yeah, we were still getting ample heat, but it was not working optimally. We decided to bite the bullet and purchase this $500 piece and do a self repair of the stove. We began work after having found the service manual online. The job took a few hours but went smoothly with two of us working together, talking things through. The most handy piece of advice came from user AVM8905 - who suggested, "If you are planning to do this yourself, and you can, it was easy, do yourself a favor and order the gasket that goes under the shoe also. The one for my model was only $13, but I had to wait a month for it to arrive." Well, THANK YOU AVM8905 - we ordered one off-site and it prevented a delay in our final repair!!! The Fountain Assembly fit perfectly and has solved our issues. I would also recommend having a little bit of stove cement just to tack the fire roping in place (if you are not replacing it altogether) to avoid frustration in reassembly - luckily we had some on hand.
