My new favorite tom microphone
We have long used the venerable SM-57 for mic'ing toms in our recording studio. For a recent project I decided (based on good reviews) to pick up 3 of the Heil PR 28 to try on the toms. I can't say that they sounded "better", because that is subjective - but what I can say is the following:1) The mics are small and built very sturdy. Excellent for this high risk application where it is only a matter of time before they are hit hard.2) The official mounting kit for these mics is very easy to use and stays were you set it (technically not part of this product but buyers of this product are likely to buy the HH-1 bracket)3) Most important - It took much less time for the engineer to get a great sound out of the drum. Where the drummer might have been whacking each drum for a good minute or two before the sound was dialed in on an SM-57, with the Heil it was 10 or 20 seconds. That time savings was appreciated!4) Great cymbal rejection - we got much less cymbal bleed through the tom mics than with our usual SM-57s.I highly recommend this mic!

Punchy, clear and articulate
Working FB on my FTDX1200. Punchy, clear and articulate is how I would describe it. Its needs a tad of EQ boost at 1200hz and 2300hz to bring out the best in this mic. Cuts thru with articulate audio for DX and has round enough audio for ragchew. It likes to be close talked as it gets more punchy as you get closer. This is not a mic for the person who wants to sound like Scott Muni at WNEW FM. This for is the guy who can break thru that pileup and the guy who can talk to Mauritania at S1 on both ends of the conversation.

Great with Yaesu Tranceiver
This microphone work great with my Yaesu Amateur radio... It has excellent frequency response. The 600 ohm impedance matches the transceiver perfectly. Great job Bob Heil.
