Hard to believe in this day and age of electronic banking that I would need something like this, but I needed a checkbook cover for a check register. I don’t have checks for it, but didn’t want the paper register just floating around my messy desk. This leather cover is really beautifully crafted, as shown in the product video. It’s got a bit of padding under the top and bottom layers which is nice. Really nice quality leather and great stitching. For such a little, somewhat old fashioned item, it’s a nice touch of luxury for under $10. Amazing!

This checkbook cover looks great right out of the box. The leather is supple and well-tanned, and all stitching is perfectly executed. The pen holder appears useful. Nevertheless, in practice all is not as it should be. Take for example the checkbook "pocket," i.e., that inside half of the interior which sandwiches and secures the checks' stiff manila backing. In fact, the open edge of this pocket is too high, meaning that when you have stuffed your checks' backing all the way into it, not only can you not insert a pen (no matter how small) into the pen holder, but the packet of checks is too "tall" for the checkbook to close symmetrically along its central seam. And as for inserting a check register on the opposite side, well, it can't be done: there is no slot in which to slide the register (although it might possibly be slipped into the upper pocket from the checkbook cover's side, meaning you will have to withdraw it separately from the cover). Moreover, what is the purpose of an elongated horizontal pocket on the top half of the checkbook cover? Anything that goes into it can’t be seen or easily removed, except perhaps a comb.I did not return this checkbook cover because I use duplicate checks (no register) and the price was right. Otherwise, I thought y’all might find this review informative.

Looks good and feels nice in my hand. It should last a long while. It works for side tear checks and regular top tear checks, too. It has a pen holder slot inside, but I chose not to use that feature. Yet, overall I really like it and am pleased with it.
