Great Rod
I travel for work and wanted a portable fly rod. This is a great rod and is very compact. Very affordable as well. Would highly recommend

Good enough for what it is
I just took the 6-weight version out and casted for a while, prior to a trip fishing UK stillwaters from a boat. (I will use it for the evening rise, when the wind usually drops.) With a floating line, this rod works as expected: medium action, not medium-fast, and not much backbone, but for the money it is not bad. I could throw 50-60 feet easily with small flies, so it will get the job done. The nice thing is that the tube measures only 17", so it will fit into a carry-on sized roller bag. Also, it is a well-presented rod, for what that is worth.Quick update: having now fished this and landed a couple of nice 18" trout on it, I was very happy with it for floating-line work from a boat. This is a great rod for the money when it comes to fishing dries and emergers. I would add a half star if that was an option!

This is probably the best rod I have ever used
So this rod is why I bothered to log in here and review some of my Amazon purchases. I wanted everyone to know how good this rod really is.Honestly, objectively, it might be my favorite rod out of the 8 that I own and use! That is really saying something when I have some Orvis, Fenwick, and a Lefty Kreh signature rod that my wife gave me as an engagement gift (she's amazing, and I hope it inspires others to receive rods when they shell out for that special ring).I bought this specifically because I wanted something that fits into suitcases for unexpected adventures when traveling. I was aiming for a 5 or 6 piece, and 9 piece definitely felt like overkill. But I was wrong! It pieces together very well, it stores very well, and it handles expertly. This rod feels more intuitive and responsive than any other rod I have, with perhaps the exception of the fiberglass Fenwick. It is a joy to swing around, and it handles like a champ!I got the 5wt and put a 5/6 reel on it, as I imagine trout is probably going to be my most consistent quarry. However, to test it out I have taken it to my warm water creek for smallmouth bass. I usually use a 6 or 7 weight for these waters. This rod is underpowered for throwing medium-to-large poppers (no surprise, it's more of a top water trout rod), but really can sling properly-sized flies a good distance. It pulls in fish very well, and you can feel every tug (in a good way). The reel seat holds tight (I have a few that cheaped out on this), the "dot" pattern is accurate to help you put the rod together, and the rod itself performs about twice as good as I would have expected.Honestly, this is a fantastic rod. The "travel" size is an absolute bonus. Do NOT keep looking; I can't imagine a more satisfying rod. This is easily my favorite Amazon purchase in over 10 years of compulsive buying. Very, very well done, Maxcatch!

Much Nicer Than Expected
Small size, really nice fit and finish, nice hard case, nice color. But the best part is that it casts unbelievably well for an eight piece pack rod that is really inexpensive. You can spend many times more money but what’s the point if it is only going to be used occasionally? As with any rod, time will speak to its durability.

Great Combo! Experienced a possible misunderstanding with customer service.
I purchased the 9’ MAXCATCH Alltime Traveller (8 piece) 5 weight rod & reel combo from Amazon.com July 14, 2022. For a year it was fantastic! The rod is light and casts quite well, the reel is decent, carrying case is great, and it is a very good value for the money. If it weren’t for the wording about “LIFETIME Repairing Warranty” in the description and my negative experience with MAXCATCH’s customer service (or lack of customer service) I would absolutely give the rod itself and the combo 5 stars. However, because of my experience explained below I am giving it 2 stars. The tip broke in late July or August of 2023 (just after the 1 year mark). So I contacted MAXCATCH via their website asking them if I could purchase just the tip section. Their reply was simply, “Contact amazon.” So I contacted Amazon and an Amazon representative informed me that if it was within 1 year they could do a replacement for me but since it was outside of 1 year I would have to contact MAXCATCH. Since MAXCATCH wasn’t very helpful the first time I contacted them I wasn’t in a hurry to contact them again so some time had lapsed before I sent another email. The next time I contacted them was either December of 2023 or early January of 2024 and I again asked them how I could go about getting a new tip for my rod and they simply sent me a link to the amazon page for the combo with no explanation of any kind. So I again contacted Amazon and explained that I wasn’t getting anywhere with MAXCATCH. An Amazon representative informed me that they contacted MAXCATCH regarding the situation and that someone from MAXCATCH would contact me within a couple of days. I waited about a month and no one from MAXCATCH contacted me.So on Jul 9, 2024, I again sent an email to MAXCATCH outlining all of the previous attempts to get this resolved and explained that the description for the combo says,ONE-YEAR-WARRANTY and LIFETIME Repairing Warranty - MAXCATCH as a 13 years fishing rod factory, offer “No Hassle” warranty for all our rods for one year. If you are not 100% satisfied with our products, you can return it in any time. And we also offer lifetime repairing for Maxcatch rods and reels. And I again asked how I could get a replacement tip section for the rod and I have not received a response.*UPDATE: MAXCATCH actually did respond the last time I sent an email to them. In fact, they responded within hours of receiving my email and asked for my address. I did not see their email, though, because it went into my SPAM folder. So, I responded with my address. I am hopeful that this will soon be resolved and I will update this review again as appropriate.**UPDATE 2: After responding to MAXCATCH with my address they then sent to me an amazon link to purchase only the rod tip which I needed to replace. I purchased the tip/last section of the rod and it fits perfectly and now my rod is good as new again! After this experience I now have to believe that the link they sent to me way back after I first contacted them was also supposed to be for an amazon page that would allow me to purchase only the tip but instead the link just took me to the full combo (rod, reel, line, case, & accessories). So, at that point I was disgruntled and tabled it for another time when that link to the full combo may have just been a mistake. If I had followed up with the first email that contained the amazon link to the full combo and asked for clarification this situation probably could have been resolved over a year ago. So, now I am giving the combo a 4 stars review based on my overall experience with their customer service. However, I would give the combo by itself 5 stars.

Perfect for my trip
Took this Rod on a trip down in the Caribbean to catch tarpon and snook and it was perfect. I was tough on it as it was cheap but worked better than my Orvis helios that broke.

Excellent for the money
Excellent combo for the money. Got the 6 wt for my brother that was visiting friends with a five star trout river in front of their house. My brother loves the Rod since it fit in his check-on bag and had everything but fishing pliers.

Rod tip broke on a big big fish, seller offered to replace the tip and was very responsive.
I purchased this kit for a trip and the rod tip snapped on the first fish I caught on the first morning of the trip, which also happened to be a big fish. Really unfortunate as I had to borrow a rod from someone to finish the trip. I wrote a review here stating what had happened and the seller responded quickly offering to replace the tip. Hoping the replacement holds up better than the first one.
