Excellent for the price, not difficult to install
I bought this device for my 2009 Ford Ranger extended cab. When I received the camera, it had the following in the box: 1. Camera 2. 17'-ish long composite cable 3. Power cable 4. Utterly useless instructions. I did not have a wire alongside the composite cable. I wound up running a single 18 gauge wire to send the signal to the head unit to turn on. The composite cord is just long enough without having to extend it on my truck - for other Ranger owners, drop the wire from the radio down the driver's (left) side of the tranny tunnel, then go through the grommet that is under the driver's seat. I put the wires in loom and snaked them along the frame alongside the other wiring for the truck and it's *just* long enough to get back to the bumper. I soldered a wire onto the positive side of the backup light, and I grounded the camera above the spare tire (using an existing 10mm bolt that bolts the spare tire cable assembly to the truck), which you'll want to remove to have some room hooking things up. I don't recommend the camera be on all the time, it'll probably wear out too fast. If you have a trailer and want to be able to turn the camera on, use a diode at the backup light and hook up an auxiliary switch on the dash somewhere to put +12V on the power line you run from the back of the truck - this will turn the camera and the radio input on and the diode will prevent the backup lights from coming on if you want to use the camera independently. Make sure you solder all the connections! The quality of the camera is a lot better than I thought it would be. Haven't tried it at night yet. Edit: I've now had this unit for 2.5 months. Camera still works perfectly. Night vision is actually pretty decent - the backup lights on my truck are pretty bright and I could even see a car parked across the street from my house. It's nothing like infrared and the image can be a bit grainy at night but you can easily identify people walking or parked vehicles. I also discovered that if a raindrop sits on the camera it looks like your LCD screen is broken in the truck. That gave me a heart attack the first time I saw that. Now as a part of my morning routine I wipe off my side mirrors and the camera at the same time and problem solved! ;-) Edit (2014-11-28): For those wondering about durability and longevity, I've now had this for about one year and four months. I've dropped things on the camera while loading my truck (if it wasn't metal I'm sure it would have broken), I've caught it with my toe climbing in and out of the truck bed, it's been through the carwash several times, it's been buried in snow a few times, covered in snowy mud from highways, and it's seen temperatures of about -20 celcius. The dang thing is still working! Edit (2018-03-10): Well, it seems the camera got moisture behind the lens making it useless (the camera still works but it is so blurry you can't tell what it's showing. Lasted about 5 years for me.

Really good sub-$40 camera
I ordered one and received it in 2 days. Really fast shipping, however the camera stopped working after 10 minutes. I emailed for replacement and received another one 2 days after that. This time i plugged the camera on my TV and a 12volt power supply and let it run for about an hour. So far no problems. Install is pretty much straight forward. There is one video cable that has a red cable coming out of it that connects to the positive of the backup light and the other side to the back of your stereo or external monitor (thats what give the monitor the signal to automatically switch to the rear view). That cable it pretty thin and long enough to easily reach from headunit, toward driver side, down the footwell panel, underneath the door sill covers, behind the rear seat backrest and finally up the trunk lid arm with about 2 feet to spare. (05 Toyota Corolla S). There is another cable, about 3 feet long that powers the camera. That needs to be connected to the positive and negative of the reverse light. The negative can also be connected to any part of the car body. Some headunits require you to pick if the signal to switch to the rear-view video is negative, positive, or off if you dont want it to switch automatically.(keep that in mind before you blame the camera for you video not switching automatically). Day performance is extremelly good. The way i have the camera doesnt get hit by the sunlight so i dont know if it would glare alot or not. Low-light performance isnt that good but its good enough when you get closer to an object which and can clearly see how far you are. You can purchase some LED replacement bulbs for your vehicle and get alot more light and alot better low-light video quality. Superbrightleds.com is a good source.

Great product
Product is exactly what I was looking for, a simple to install very impressive backup camera. Once installed it worked perfectly, images at night look great as well. I added this to a pioneer AVH-X2500BT head unit, and it was a great addition. I will list my pros and come bellow: Pro: 1.) Easy install 2.) Great image, both day and night 3.) Stylish, yet minimal addition to the vehicle 4.) Plenty of wire to run from my head unit to plate. No need for extension what so ever Cons: 1.) Wires did not match what Pyle had listed on their website, the. Video wire was to come with an additional wire attached l, it did not. I had to run the supplied video wire plus an additional wire to my head unit to trigger the head unit to turn on when in reverse. 2.) Power and ground wire gauge was very small, just expected a little more heavy duty. Overall great camera, only gave 4 stars because of the difference in what model number shows on the Pyle website and what I was supplied.

Cable too short for F250 Crew Cab.
I got this to help with backing up my F250. The RCA cable that came with it wasn't long enough to reach into the cab, but that was kinda to be expected with a vehicle as large as an F250. I replaced the cable that came with it with a 25 foot subwoofer cable, and the additional 8 feet was enough to make it into the cab. The camera itself works pretty well. There is some engine noise on the camera while it is activated, but this may be due to the way that I installed it. (Pulling power and ground from 7 way trailer connector instead of going all the way over to the backup lights.) The noise isn't bad enough that I'm willing to do any work to fix it, so it's good enough. I unscrewed the two small screws that are on the bottom of the camera housing, and adjusted the camera down a little bit so that I was better able to see my trailer hitch. I would say that I needed about a 40 degree down-pitch before I was able to see the top of the trailer ball, which was a little more than I expected, so if you're adjusting it so that you can see your hitch ball, don't be bashful at first, tilt it down a lot further than you think you have to, and you'll be adjusting it a lot less. I didn't care if my cable came with the activation wire on it or not (it didn't) because there were other places inside the cab to grab +12v from when only in reverse that were a lot easier to deal with than running a cable all the way from the back to the front. That also made replacing the cable with a heavier subwoofer cable easier, too. I used small utility knife to cut a hole in the grommet for the transmission cable and put the cable up through there. That puts it in almost the exact place that the cable needs to go if you're routing the signal to a head unit. And now for a neat trick: The barrel connector on these is the same size as what is used on a Linksys router, and quite a few other +12v products. If you want to activate the camera for testing, plug in an AC adapter, then plug it into the camera. If you ever need to turn the camera on and leave it on, but don't want to make that a permanent change, you can get a small inverter, then run an extension cord back to the camera, and plug in the AC adapter. My camera has been rained on a few times, and has gotten cold, and no issues so far, but I've only had it for a month or so. I'll update this review if there are any changes in it's behavior. Low light performance is very good, too. Overall, expecially for the price, I'm extremely pleased with this purchase.

Good quality
This is the only backup camera that could fit my vehicle without it getting in the way of the trunk release button. Overall, it's a pretty decent back up camera, but it does block the registration stickers. The only thing I wish it had was for the long wire to also include the reverse camera trigger wire on each ends so that you can easily connect it to the unit and reverse lights without having to use a secondary wire.

May cover your registration sticker
This is likely the same camera as many others that look like it. I bought it to replace one that got real blurry and was able to just plug it into the existing power and video cable. The camera is wired to be powered at all times so I can turn it on while driving forward with the "rear camera" button on my A/V receiver. Very handy when the rear window is blocked or I'm paranoid about what's behind me. The only beef I have is that there doesn't appear to be any way to disable the parking lines, I should have verified that before I bought it. The mounting bracket is also pretty long, it extends over the registration sticker and that will get you in trouble where I live. I had to fab up little extenders and mount it above my plate.

Great Camera
I bought this camera to install with my Pioneer AVH-3500BHS in a Corolla 2010. I finished the installation today with help of my brother. The installation took about 2 hours. The package came with everything you need to get it installed except for the detailed installation instruction. I did some youtube search to understand the basics. Here are the steps needed. First, you need to find a way to run the cable attached to the camera to the back of the car near the backup light harness. In my Corolla I used the license plate light as an access point. Second, you will need to cut the backup light harness to get access to the red (power) and black (ground). Connect these to the camera's black and red wires of the power cable. Third, there is an additional red wire that is part of the 15 feet video cable. This also need to be connected to the red of the backup light harness. Fourth, you need to run the video wire/red wire to the front to connect it to the stereo/monitor. Then, connect the video cable to the back of the stereo/monitor. Finally, my stereo came with a wire labelled backup camera that was not connected to anything previously, but it's now connected to the red wire that is part of the 15 feet video cable. This wire is important, because it will change the screen on your stereo automatically to the backup camera view when you put the gear to reverse (R). With this step up the Camera is getting the power only when my car is on reverse. Now, back to the camera itself. Here are the pros and cons of this camera. Pros Affordable (30$) Very nice color picture quality Very reasonable night quality Adjustable camera vertical camera angle Scale with yellow and red lines Supposed to be waterproof and fog resistent (I have not test either yet). Cons my only issues is that the camera actually covers the province/state name on my license plate. My worry is that I might be stopped by police because the camera is obstructing part of the license plate. I have not tested this camera in a car wash yet and I've for just few hours. So, I can't comment on longevity and durability of this camera. In summary, this is a very reasonable camera for the price! I love the picture quality and the lines that really help with parking!

Works great for the price
Works great for the price. My other car is a 2014 Rav 4, and the picture from this camera is grainy compared to the factory installed camera on that vehicle. The distance to object overlay is also not as intuitive (the Rav 4 has a red line that lets me know I'm about a foot from the object I see). I heavily rely on the distance overlay that camera provides. I find myself pretty much ignoring the distance overlay with this camera because it's not very helpful. That being said, for less than $30, this camera does its job well with a pretty clear picture both during daylight and at night. Would I buy it again? Absolutely. As far as install, I ran the red wire to the appropriate wire in my taillight. Just use a voltage detector to check each wire (out of about 4), then shift the car into reverse and locate the wire that was previously dead. This shouldn't take more than a few minutes. However, the wire may be too short if you want to hide it. The way mine was initially installed, the wire from the camera to the taillight was visible when I lifted the trunk (it ran directly to it in the shortest distance possible, so tossing groceries or luggage into the trunk could have been a problem as they could have hit and disconnected the wire). I needed to extend the wire to hide it and protect it (run it under panels, etc.). About six weeks after install, I've had no problems with the camera. As long as it holds up for even a couple years, I'll consider it a great product at a great price.

Great build quality.
Very solid build quality...I still have to get it connected but so far it looks and feels awesome in my hand...I think this will last the lifetime of the car.
