Classic!!
This is my second fighting fantasy book that I have read by Ian Livingstone. These books blow the "choose your own adventure" books out of the water. This is because you get to roll dice and obtain items that influence the outcome of decisions as you make your way through the adventure. The first book I read was the classic "Warlock of Firetop Mountain". I actually read that one thirty years ago and found it online even though I couldn't remember the name! Reading other reviews, I learned that other people also remembered the joy they got out of that book when they were kids. So of course, I got that book for my kids. I played it with my dad, but he only read it with me once, and when my character died, we never played again. But from time to time, I would pick up the book and look at the amazing artwork or find the ending of the book to see what happens when you win. Well, my sons and I defeated the warlock and were ready for the next one so we picked the "Island of the Lizard King." What I like about this book is it is much harder than firetop mountain. We have almost died twice, which makes us more careful about the decisions we make. We chose the potion of strength for our adventure (restores all stamina points) but in this book, it is only good for one dose. (You could use it twice in "firetop".) Such fun books and I have not seen anything that has come close in the thirty years since I read "firetop." Having a great time with this one and actually have two more ordered and on the way!!

Childhood relived
I used to read these choose your own adventure books as a kid and now I can do again as an adult. I do not remember reading this book in this series. The book is in great condition, pages are good and it came packaged very well. Every geek should have this book and the series in your collection

Good, but not the best.
After the success of 'City of Thieves', and the legendary 'Deathtrap Dungeon', Ian Livingtone's adventure on Fire Island seemed a little lame in comparison. However, besides that, it is otherwise quite an acceptable - although average - addition to the FF series. Livingstone delights in exploring his arch-villains to the full, and 'Island of the Lizard King' is no exception. There are some shocks and surprises, a multitude of monsters, with items necessary the reader must collect in order to defeat the evil, ambitious Lizard King. And watch out for the fatal Gonchong! Overall, an interesting adventure - but definitely not Ian Livingstone's best.

Poor artwork
I look at the new artwork and feel nothing. It will leave no lasting impression on kids. I feel sorry sometimes for the new generations. Just aint the talent around. If you can get the older editions then do.

Four Stars
As with the whole series, need several play throughs to actually make it through, if you don't cheat.
