Best thing since vegetables
I love gardening, but going through the labor of sanitizing the cells, storing the half cracked trays, and transplanting into larger pots or trays was a bore. In fact, I didn't know how much it affected my production until I bought these. With these peat pellets, I can choose a large size for the tomatoes and peppers without having to transplant twice. The roots grow right through the containing mesh and even when you finally transplant to the garden, you don't have as much shock. My brassicas which are usually leggy and thin at the stem base, have really sturdy stems this year. I planted way more seeds than normal because it was just so darn easy. I even started cukes, melon and squash inside early which I normally never do. I am usually thankful when I can direct sow, because it was less intensive. But this year I started the cukes inside to give them a head start on the squash bug infestation I'm inevitably going to deal with.

Excellent for propagating plants from cuttings
These peat pellets are covered in a mesh, and they expand to about four inches tall when they are wet. This gives a large, deep area for rooting cuttings. When the roots begin to appear in the mesh, you know that propagation is successful and the cutting is ready to be planted. Instructions say that you can plant the pellet, mesh and all, but I feel better about snipping the mesh away when I plant the rooted cuttings.

Nothing like Jiffy
These are not the same as the pellets that come with the Jiffy growing trays. Out of the box, it is obvious that the mesh is different. It looks different. It's sewn different. I'm not sure the material is even biodegradable. It took 3 times longer for these to hydrate than the original pellets and the filling has the consistency of packed sawdust. To top it off, they were all covered in mold a week after I planted them. Real Jiffy pellets have never done that. All this leads me to believe that these are knock-offs. Buyer beware.EDIT: I was able to control mold growth by baking these on a cookie sheet for an hour @ 180F before use. They work, but I won't buy them again. They are completely inferior to actual Jiffy band pellets.

Slow to absorb liquid.
I purchased 32 of these pellets from Walmart and was so impressed that I looked for a large amount from an Amazon. I purchased over a 100 pellets and found that the ones purchased here took hours to expand and were smaller when the ones from Walmart expanded quickly and were taller. I placed the two products side by side and found the same results. The base material appears to be different to us.

Finally Found Them!
Jiffy Pots are wonderful items. However sometimes you wish for larger transplants than the standard Jiffy Pots give you. After about 2 years of searching I finally found the 50mm pots on Amazon. These are perfect for larger veggie and ornamental transplants. If your weather is variable and you may not be able to set out transplants right on schedule, these are nice because you can hold the plants over for a week or two and not worry about your success. Great root structure and I am glad to finally have these "commercial" grade Jiffy Pellets!

Killed my starts - NOT same as Jiffy pots I've used for years.
Have used this size Jiffy pot for years - normally produce strong roots that burst from sides of pot and take off soon as put in dirt. Product has changed, fabric of pot is different material - roots cannot break out of it. Cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini, peppers - died because roots could not get thru the fabric to the dirt. Terrible loss. Pulled dead starts from ground - not a single root was able to grow out of the Jiffy pot - strangled to death. DO NOT USE IF YOU WANT YOUR PLANTS TO SURVIVE. Unfortunately I bought a bunch. Next year will have to rip holes in sides of fabric or I will lose my entire crop again. Another great product ruined.

My seedlings are loving these pellets.
I have tried all kinds of soil to start seeds in, and these are the best so far. Planting seeds was truly easy since I didn't have to fill a tray or tiny cells, and these pellets swell up big and roomy making plenty of room for roots. I even think I had a better rate of germination. So I am hoping for bigger plants since they have more than twice as much soil than trays with cells or smaller plugs.

I thought OK product
I first thought the product was OK but there is something about it. I thought they were too tall for the diameter of the peat pot. This causes the peat pot to fall over. I put it in a yogurt cup to stand it up.
