Yamaha 6490 Classic 3 Way Acoustic Suspension Audio Speaker
I purchased two pairs of speakers; one pair for the front left/right pairing and another rear left/right pairing; I must say that they fill out a living/dining rooms space quite easily, nicely and adequately from an audio speaker volume viewpoint; one definitely gets much more for their money with this particular audio speaker; its truly pleasantly surprising one can still get a decent value in a Yamaha NS-6490 an audio speaker that has been in continuous production for decades; My primary use, is connected to a high definition television set's digital optical out, which in turn is directly connected via fiber optic connection cable; to a digital to analog output adapter converter that includes integrated RCA analog output connection jacks(brought on amazon.com).I connect the digital to analog output converter's RCA analog output connection jacks directly to the RCA input jacks on a Behringer Model 302 Sound Mixer using a dual RCA L/R audio connection cable; to be able both specifically pre-amplify the the audio input signal as needed/desired and to also be able to customize/adjust the sound mixer volume directly via the built-in main mixer volume control; prior to connection to my stereo receiver amplifier in order to allow me to be able to customize/adjust for the specific audio signal amplification of low and/or high audio frequencies as needed/desired.I directly connect the Behringer Sound Mixer RCA audio outputs via a dual RCA L/R audio connection cable to my Yamaha RS-201 Stereo receiver that serves to directly amplify the audio input signals supplied from the audio output jacks from the sound mixer itself; adjusting the specific audio amplification as necessary just prior to the amplified audio signal output being directly connected and output to the 90db/watt audio sensitivity rated Yamaha 3 way 6490 audio speaker itself. For movies/music they are very decent and good audio sound quality with impressive audio bass response with good audio balance qualities at impressive speaker volumes; I usually play at very conservative audio speaker volumes 80-90db SPL sound pressure levels and it sounds very full bodied primarily due to its characteristically exceptionally voluminous and truly expansive 3 way audio speaker dimensions which is a massive 10 and a1/2" wide with a 16 and a1/5" height and a 13 and a 1/5" depth; so it can definitely be classified as a large audio speaker volume speaker; with a generous spacious 0.96 square total feet per 3 way audio speaker box volume displacement. The 6490 3 way acoustic supsension speaker's frequency response ranges from 45-23,000 Hz which is accomplished thru the use of its 3 way acoustic suspension designed main 8 inch woofer audio driver, its secondary 4 inch mid range audio driver and its 7/8 inch quality audio sound balanced ferro-fluid dome tweeter;the 8 inch main woofer audio driver has a contrasting flexible high compliance pearl whit colored high excursion long throw cone woofer audio driver with a cloth surround and also an inverted dust cover with silver colored trim ring, the mid range audio driver is a 4 inch ferro fluid cooled pearlized white coated cone type with inverted dust cover with silver colored trim ring; the 7/8 inch balanced dome tweeter is also ferro fluid cooled audio tweeter driver with silver colored trim ring;the speakers audio drivers are magnetically shielded with gold plated banana plug compatible audio terminal jacks in the back of speaker; the black satin audio grilled cloth is acoustically transparent to cover the front of speaker while helping to protect it from any potential dust pollution in ones listening space;the audio speakers are rated as a standard 8 ohm audio speaker for use in connecting to ones audio stereo and/or ones 5.1 a/v receiver application; the 6490 3 way acoustic suspension audio speakers are priced as a left/ right audio pair perfect for any standard audio stereo speaker L/R pairing;they also do not come with any audio speaker wire included; the speaker cabinet is constructed of what is typically called in the audio speaker construction industry as standard MDF(medium denisty fiberboard) a very sturdy and rigid reinforced high density particle board composite material used in construction of audio speakers;my previous set of audio speakers were four 2 way KLH model 911 audio speakers with 4.5 inch woofers audio driver with 1/2 inch tweeter audio driver; they were adequate to provide sufficient speaker volume but the 6490 audio speaker sounds much more airy, spacious, full, clear, crisp, detailed, and definitely more open audio speaker characteristic wise quite a bit more pleasant to listen to both audio movies and music content; overall much better than the old 2 way KLH model 911's previous set of four speakers;another tip and/or technique that I use in order to actually get a much more substantial actual audio bass response from the Yamaha 3 Way Bookshelf Speakers; when used in the already above stated audio configuration is I adjust the Behringer 302 Sound Mixer by sliding its L/R audio input line level volume control knob all the way up while also at the same time sliding/adjusting the L/R audio input low frequency adjustment slider control all the way up to its maximum +15dB slider position; while also at the same time sliding/adjusting the L/R audio input high frequency adjustment slider control all the way down to its -15dB slider position;this has the very unusually nice audio special effect of introducing and getting much more potentially desirable needed appropriate L/R audio input line levels; now by deliberately over amplifying the above stated audio input L/R audio low line level audio inputs for specifically the low frequencies by +15dB and then also deliberately over attenuating the above stated audio input L/R audio low line level audio inputs for specifically the high frequencies for -15dB also as well;this directly results in actually getting of course a much more substantially enhanced enjoyable listenable highly desirable actual audio bass response being output from the Yamaha 3 Way Bookshelf Speakers; once the resulting above stated desired appropriately customized audio input L/R audio low line level audio outputs from the Behringer model 302 Sound Mixer are actually fed directly into the accompanying already connected Yamaha RS-201 Stereo receiver's L/R audio low line level audio dual RCA input jacks themselves;now for those do it yourself audio 3 way upgrade speaker hobbyists this relatively inexpensive pair of speakers makes for a great upgrade project indeed; as the yamaha website speaker data shows the audio crossover frequencies are at 2,500hz and 8,000hz; so it should be fairly easy to plug in a completely pre assembled and completely pre populated printed circuit board crossover and just connect ones audio woofer driver, ones audio mid range driver and ones audio tweeter driver up with relative easy and no muss or fuss at all;the audio crossover frequency between woofer and midrange audio drivers is 2,500hz and the audio crossover frequency between the mid range and tweeter drivers is 8,000hz.

Sometimes, the Real Thing Costs Less to Manufacture than Artificial Enhancements
Many speaker manufacturers use electronic circuitry and speaker design which emphasizes the lowest frequency a speaker can produce to give the impression of good base, especially when designing and manufacturing smaller-sized speakers. Don't confuse this with being able to produce ultra-bass frequencies. Why did I choose this manufacture and model of speaker? Each speaker's 8" woofer and 0.88" tweeter provide wide frequency response for bookshelf speakers in each respective location as opposed to all the bass strictly coming from the location of a subwoofer. Their 4" midrange helps neutralize the soundcurve so human voices and instruments have the same overtones they have live and in person. If clarity is more important, there are plenty of two-way speakers out there to accomplish that. Or else, you can boost the upper midrange and treble with some EQ. Each speaker'ss ceiled cabinet allows a more natural resonance in the bass register, as opposed to a more emphasized resonance heard in a speaker with a ported cabinet such as a floor-standing speaker or subwoofer.I have four pairs of these. I use two for front speakers, one lying horizontally as a center speaker with its woofer on the right so its tweeter can be above its midrange for better placement, two for surrounds, and two for surround backs.12/21/22 Update: Once I decided on the Sennheiser HD 560 S headphones, I started relocating and evaluating various speakers I own. After doing so, I am starting to notice either recessed mids or boosted bass and treble, known as the U-curve or V-curve among audiophiles. However, this does not make them inferior speakers. Sound signature is a matter of personal preference. I'll now be using these as speaker stands for my Yamaha NS-AP5700BLF two-way speakers, which so far, for me, seem to cross the fine line between wide audio spectrum coverage and my preferred sound signature.12/31/22 Update: After more time using these sixteen inches above the floor, I notice a ballanced sound similar to my Sennheiser HD 560 S headphones, making the Yamaha NS-6490 three-way bookshelf speakers once again my first choice.05/13/23 Update: What's the secret behind these unusually compact three-way speakers? Speakers are supposed to be designed with their components installed vertically. These speakers are designed with their woofer on the bottom, and above their woofer, a midrange driver on the left and a tweeter on the right. If you plan on background listening, this would less likely be a problem. However, for critical listening, this design flaw results in everything being placed towards the left when used as front and center speakers, slanted from back to front when used as side speakers, and towards the right when used as back speakers. I did not think this was as serious of an issue until I reconfigured my room so I could properly place my TV and speakers, including better separation between the speakers. Moving forward, I am now using these speakers as stands for my smaller Yamaha NS-AP5700BLF speakers, each with a vertically installed 6.5" woofer and 0.75" tweeter. Their bass coverage is almost as good, and their treble coverage might be a little better with the slightly smaller tweeter. They do not include a midrange driver. However, there might be such an insignificant gap between the upper tones of their woofer and lower tones of their tweeter that a midrange driver might not be necessary. I would imagine that their low price results from their low nominal power rating and veneer finish. However, I do not listen loud enough for my ears to ring after I am finished listening. So I don't think the nominal power rating would be a serious issue for me. The NS-AP5700BLF are only available through Yamaha's parts department. I wish Yamaha would release the NS-AP5700BLF speaker as an actual product.05/16/23 Update: After doing several A-to-B comparisons, I discovered that the placement issue I was experiencing may have been caused by different acoustical characteristics throughout my home theatre area. In order for my posts to have integrity, I post such findings upon discovering them.
