Ted Simon's character
Ted Simon's son, Adam, had an extra-marital affair for nearly a year with a subordinate at his medical workplace while his wife was pregnant with their third child.Once discovered, Ted Simon offered to take care of the situation. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. How can we take Ted Simon seriously?

This book is a great reference and resource for an individual with some working knowledge of risk assessment and a strong interest in environmental exposure. If you are active in developing and publishing risk assessments, I recommend this resource as a guide and great procedural check for benchmarking and best practices. The book opens with a very thoughtful and thorough review of risk assessment history. The book discussed the detailed aspects of problem formulation and for exposure assessment, focuses on examples of environmental concentrations, there is less focus on industrial hygiene measurements, that maybe of more interest to those addressing human health risk assessment versus environmental. Both are important and becoming integrated as risk assessment evolves. I particularly like the section on “How to Interpret and Use MOA Information” as this is often a confusing topic for risk assessors. There are interesting data examples, web resources, and data figures throughout to illustrate points. My only recommendation is that future editions could include some full case studies at the end of the book.

Dissappointing
I am really surprised that someone with a DABT could so fundamentally misunderstand some of the basic principles of toxicology. This book is heavy with opinion and expresses some ideas that do not align with current scientific beliefs (for example, that a mutagenic mode of action is not more detrimental to developing organisms. This belief was disproven over 15 years ago). Additionally, it reflects the author's person bias in risk assessment and even resorts to calling the public who are afraid of exposure from a contaminated site "a bunch of whiners". This book is not appropriate as a teaching tool.
