Great if you have lots of wood/tile floors, upholstery to clean or someone that spills a lot on carpet, not for whole carpets
This works well for cleaning wooden and tile floors as well as spot cleaning carpet and upholstery. Also works as a wet vac. It is not for cleaning an entire room of carpet or a large rug as it doesn't have a power head or power head option meaning you will be doing a lot of slow tedious scrubbing. Speaking of heads, it is also not compatible with older heads from other Bissell devices such as the turbo head do to a minor change in tube diameter, a disappointing anti consumer choice made by Bissell. This is also not a very compact device taking up some serious space in a smaller home or apartment.

Basically a great machine. Four stars given because of my experiences within the first 40 days (one or two uses).
Machine suction is good to very good. Machine's mechanical design is very good. The machine's weight that some criticize is more than I thought it would weigh, but that's just me. I have no problem with the weight. I have only two negative comments just over a month in to ownership. The long plastic wand used for carpet cleaning flexes substantially when the carpet attachment is pulled or pushed while firmly pressed against the carpet for the most efficient removal of moisture. I'm afraid something on that wand may crack or break some day. My old Bissell machine has a steel wand, so I noticed this right away. Secondly, the operator's manual didn't mention anything about the necessity of the solution tank to be pretty well full at least for the first use. I put about an inch of plain water in it for initial introduction to the machine. I got no water spray out of the carpet wand. I got no water right out of the unit prior to the wand either. I called Bissell customer service. She went through everything I had already done and concluded that I would have to take it for warranty service. On a hunch, I filled the solution tank all the way up. I got water spray immediately. I hope all the running time with no water getting to it didn't damage the pump. The manual does say NOT to run the pump with no water in the solution tank.

Do Not Buy!
This is my second Bissell. Our first was the canister style and that was awesome. We had to buy this new version because after 20+ years the canister gave up the ghost. Do NOT buy this model - whatever you do. What a mess. Sprayer is weak, suction is weaker. The sprayer drips while you are trying to vacuum. The carpet does not feel like the vacuum worked at all. I'm furious about how much money we wasted on this. Since we are not slobs and didn't have to use it right away, we are now past the return date. This machine is a total waste of money.

Easy for this middle age woman to handle
Really love my Big Green Cleaning System. Found the water vacuum to be excellent and my allergy-prone husband appreciates the near dust free vacuum. We were shocked by how much it pulled up from the carpet. Some reviewers commented on it's weight. I am a 140 pound non-athletic 56 year old woman with weak hands. Picking the main body that has the two canisters was no problem for me. My biggest problem is slipping the attachment pieces together and apart....now that got challenging and the reason this is not a 5 star product. Solve the difficult attachments and this would be a top notch, hard to beat product.I saw complaints about cleaning the Big Green. Compared to the rental carpet cleaners, and the two other personal carpet cleaners I've used the Big Green is less of a challenge to clean. Sorry, but cleaning these type of cleaners is part of the product. If I had to complain it would be I need more kitchen surface for air drying time before I stored everything. All the attachments are a storage challenge but I found a suitable box and everything fits into my hall closet......because I don't have three other monster gadgets I have to store next to it. I love that Big Green does so much and I don't have to purchase a carpet cleaner, a vacuum, a kitchen steamer, and an extension vacuum.

The pros & the cons
I purchased this vacuum in Sept & wanted to use it a while before posting a review. I read several of them & wanted to make sure I was able to give an honest assessment.I always like to start off on a good note; so, I'll rave for a bit... First, it is so much better than I thought. I was looking at a Rainbow & the price is what kept me from purchasing it. Finding this was a treasure & it truly does clean very well & my house just smells better after using it with water only. When you add a few drops of essential oils, it does permeate through the house & was great when I had a cold & used tea tree.I have a heeler & this is the main reason why I was looking for another vacuum. She is 5, have gone through 2 other vacuums & they NEVER picked up all of the hair. My usual routine was sweep, vacuum & mop. If you are not familiar with this dog breed, they shed constantly. But even right after vacuuming & she was not in the room, the other vacuums could not pickup all of the hair. So I felt like my house was always dirty. After the first use (without sweeping first) & saw there was no dog hair, I was immediately hooked. And the clean up!! LOVE IT!! Dump out the water & the dust, fur or whatever else doesn’t come flying back into the air. This was another HUGE selling point for me.Yup, it is everything I had hoped for & am extremely happy. Now, here are the things that made me curse it. First, the instructions are terrible. Bissell, if you are reading this, you should have someone read your instructions, as you would print them with the terrible black & white photos & try to follow the directions. To begin, you must “click” the hose to the main unit. This is not a click. This is a press the back side that is closest to the main unit & you will hear the snap. The cleanup can be a bit of a pain. Once you have emptied out the water, it is recommended to clean all of the parts. If you use a baby bottle cleaner, it takes a total of 2-3 minutes. Put water in tank with some soap, clean with bottle cleaner & you can get all of the tight spaces. Drying takes longer, but feel that this is worth it for the clean air. This thing is heavy & the wheels don’t roll very well. It will NOT roll over its own cord so you have to be careful. The worse thing that will happen is that you have to pick it up mid vacuum.Does great with picking up leaves, but will clog when you combine wet leaves & fur together. It took a few times, but was finally able to get it unclogged with a hose snake.Side note: Make sure you have it on the correct setting. I have accidentally done this & wondered why it was not properly working… oh! User error. Also, be aware that most of the parts are plastic so do not expect the same as you would a Rainbow. Pretty sure this is why the cost is so low.So, if you can deal with the cons, as I do, I promise this is entirely worth it.
