The Essential Adam Smith

It makes an excellent presentation of Adam Smith's ideas
I like this book, in understanding the full-range of Adam Smith's contributions to economics, moral philosophy and Jurisprudence . I would recommend it for any one interested in Adam Smith, and who would not be interested in it considering that he is both the Father and the Smith of Economics.

The Essential Adam Smith
Come on. This is the work of Adam Smith with Hielbroner editing and compiling. What do you think you are buying? I could say that it is a classic and every economist should read it. ok. I could say that Smith is systematically misunderstood and used to justify positions he probably wouldn't and this edition tries to correct some misunderstandings. ok. But I don't really understand why you are reading Amazon reviews of the essential Adam Smith. The binding seems quite sturdy...

Solid book, good for class and student use
Excellent book - I use this in several courses I teach and it is a great intro to Smith's thought, and a good gift for students who really find his work interesting. One of a few really nice basic introductions to important economists that is palatable to today's college student in the history of economic thought area.

Great for conversation and talking points
I love this book. I still read it when I am looking something up. I bought it for an ethics course and it's still something I reference regularly.

Easy To Work From
This is a very good, condensed version of the 900+ pages of the original. I needed it to prepare my lecture notes, and could readily find relevant passages.

Not new
Pretty sure this was advertised as a new book, at least that’s what I thought I was buying and the price reflected that.Well it wasn’t new and had quite a few lines and paragraphs that had been highlighted Green. 🤦🏻♂️

An ok edition.
The binding is poor quality. There could be more selections.

An excellent introduction to the writings of Adam Smith
The Wealth of Nations deserves to be considered a classic. It is also very much readable, even today. This Essential edition has been edited by Robert Heilbroner who, fortunately, decided to summarize and omit a number of chapters which helps keep it easy to read. The edition also includes a number of other writings by Adam Smith as well as a few letters with David Hume. Some of these other writings were worth reading but, I confess skipping through his Moral Sentiments quickly. One of the reasons The Wealth of Nations is interesting to read is that Smith is trying to persuade his readers and he does so with simple examples from his time. These examples make his point very well and illustrate the economic principles in a way that many current economic textbooks do not. The weakness of the book is his speculation on the early history of money and commerce. His armchair version of history has not borne up to sociological research on primitive societies.

Excellent book!!!
If you want to understand what Adam Smith really said this is a very helpful book. Especially because it includes the most important parts of the Theory of moral sentiments, which is necessary to understand what this great author really wanted to say.Know I have read it i realize that a lot of people have a very wrong idea of his philosophy.I wish everyone could read this book. Awesome purchase!!
