FJM Security SX-575 & Key FJM-SX-575 Padlock

I decode combination locks and pick locks as a hobby and for fun. I've been doing it for quite some time so you probably want to take a look at my review. This lock has higher security than most typical combination locks of a similar design. I can decoded it in 1 to 3 minutes, but it would present a challenge to most thieves. The features are great and the disc lock is of a higher security then a standard key. Except for one problem, they use the same key on every lock. If you check your key, it's probably the same SP001. It means that you can just buy another lock to open any of these locks. You can bypass both locks with a simple tool in a matter of seconds, but again, it would present a challenge to most thieves. And the most thieves would have it open in less time with Brute Force, because no lock can withstand a pipe wrench and a good twist. For $19.99 which is what I paid, it's a great value and offers a lot of unique features. But remember one thing, locks are to keep honest people out. As far as the combination lock, I don't like it, because it doesn't present a good challenge. All the wheels are flat and the spring tension is even, so for me, it's so boring you won't even believe it. I love locks that incorporate various Heights for each of the numbers on each wheel. What this does, is every time you rotate a wheel to find what looks like a gate, you have to start all over, because each number changes the height for all the other Wheels and so you have to go back and forth between all the wheels to find a valid gate. Basically, it leads you on a lot of wild goose chases. Now that's a high security lock, and it can take me 3 to 5 minutes decode the combination and sometimes the lock wins and I can't open it. Well, that's my review. I hope that helps.

Resetting the combination is a bit tricky. The instructions say open the shackle and rotate it 90 degrees. Then press down on the shackle to set the combination dials to your desired code. That’s an understatement! You need to press down REALLY HARD until you feel some give and then hold the shackle in that position, before setting the new code. A light to moderate touch won’t do. Instructions should be more explicit, because I spent many frustrating minutes trying to reset the factory’s default combo without success.

My wife is the special education department chair at our local middle school and some of the students have problems with their locks so the teachers have a special locker where they keep the keys to these student's lockers just in case the student has a problem. In the past, we tried several types of letter / number combination locks that could be reset to words that everyone would remember but they all failed since they were also very easy to accidentally change the combination while holding it open and then closing it. After this occurring several times and my having to pick the loc each time, we stumbled across this lock and its key. No longer will I have to sit on the floor at the school spending 15 minutes picking open one of those other locks (which does not say much about security of them either) but we also now know that if the combination needs to be changed for any reason that it is very easy to do and my wife can quickly do it while at school without any problems.

I bought two of these locks separately and both of them reset with the same key, so I am pretty sure the 'master' key is the same for all locks. A bit disappointed about this, but figured this particular brand / model isn't as common than a Master Lock or big name brand for use in a locker room, etc so it wasn't too much of a risk. Otherwise, the lock has a bit of heft to it and I am not worried about someone easily cutting it. For my uses, it's perfect.The locking mechanism is a bit thick for luggage but if you have bigger loops it should fit. Also, I tried guessing the code by pulling on the locking mechanism to see if there was any pull where the numeric dials were and did not see any when the numbers were correct / incorrect. This should make it difficult for anyone with enough time to sit and try various combinations to guess your code.

My 12 year old son had a problem with the combination lock on his gym locker. I bought a cheaper lock similar to this one but without a key and it lasted about a week. This one is much sturdier and it appears it will last. It's going on month 3. We also gave the coach the key so that he would be able to get into the locker if needed. I worked out for everyone.

OK campers. When I took over the management of our church gym facility, it was evident that there were issues with security. One area of concern was the overnight storage of personal property within our locker system. By removing all existing locks and replacing with this as a per day or use item has been awesome. I received them today and have utilized them 6 times with 6 different combinations and can control the resetting of combo as necessary.My only complaint was I ordered two 5 packs, which I thought would give me 4 keys, however; only received two keys as masters for the 10 locks. Impossible to copy they key, and I am unsure how many key combinations there are. But I still think these are well worth the money.

This is a TSA lock on steroids. It worked perfectly. I have a trusted contractor that needed a key to get in my house while I was at work. I put the key in my storage shed and locked it with this lock. I set the combo as his last four of his cell phone and put my house key inside the shed. He was able to open the lock and get the house key out of my shed. When my family visited, I changed the combo for them and did the same. This works great. I just wished they gave you more than one bypass key.
