The Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam

A late but central work of the Islamic Nahda at its climax, comparable to Abdhuh or Rida's. The most fascinating probably is the way Iqbal merges a scientific approach and an undisputable spirituality through a clever exposition of metaphysics as a unifying ground. Sincerely, this book presents what I deem is the best source of optimism for whoever questions the ability of "cultures" or "civilizations" to understand each other; arguably westerners may think that Iqbal like Abduh is too much obsessed with the idea of giving evidence of the superiority of the Islamic Spirit over Christianity, but overall it is a rare pleasure to jump from Whitehead to Al-Beruni, from Bergson to Ibn-Khaldun, etc.Iqbal's mind is sharp and even faithless people like me will find "The reconstruction of religious thought in Islam" inspiring as it brings a balanced understand of the wholeness in life. For those who are familiar with his poetry (especially "The Secrets of the Self"), they may regret the brillance of it; but the meaning is also far more accessible for it was originally a set of courses given in Hyderabad during the pre-independence era.

Sir Mohammad Iqbal is one of the greatest poet, philosopher and theologists (yet secular) of all times. He understood Qur'an and Islam probably like no one else did. His poetry and his books reflect that. It's said that his poetry is an excellent translation of Qur'an, and I couldn't agree more. He was a barrister at law from GB and was given the title of 'Sir'. He however returned to India and gave the concept of Pakistan, a separate country from Muslims, to Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

A book on the Islamic thought process that is banned in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the so called custodians of Islam tell alot what this book have to offer! Not an easy read but highly recommended!

The print quality is very poor. Its so dim that some letters are not readabke.

Do not buy from this seller. Book content is amazing but the pages and ink used to print this is crap. The more you read the worst the pages become... Stay away from this seller.Doesn't respond back to emails and complaints either.

Hi, today I purchased the printed version of "THE RECONSTRUCTION OF RELIGIOUS THOUGHT IN ISLAM" from Amazon UK. I was shocked to receive this poorly printed and appalling quality of this book. The quality looks like as if it is a second hand book, not very impressive at all and it is being sold on Amazon. Even though it does not cost much in Pound Sterling, but still one would expect some quality of the book of this level of intellectual work by Allama Iqbal. It seems that Bhavan just did not bother about the quality and just printed to sell them so they can make money.This does not go well with the readers who like to have a quality books in their personal collection.The binding of the book looks awful and feels like was done by some inexperienced child. The blank pages are of different tone(cheap quality) and the main pages are of poor quality white paper. You can see the imprint of the black ink onto the blank pages. And to disguise all the flaws of the book, BHAVAN put this book inside a plastic wrapper. The cover jacket has title printed on the side which does not even fit there.. perhaps BHAVAN could have resized the font to accommodate it properly.I also emailed KITAB BHAVAN, the publisher and some NASRI guy, but it seems their email addresses does not even work anymore as I received FAILURE TO DELIVER NOTICE, and the website domain "www.kitabbhavan" is up for sale. All this indicates the publisher might have gone bust or something, so there is no way to let them know the feedback the readers are giving them.PLEASE AVOID THIS PRINT BY KITAB BHAVAN, which does not cost much and also does not go well with serious readers/collectors.I HOPE AMAZON REMOVES THIS LISTING BASED ON THEIR AWEFUL QUALITY.

Excellent book based on the study of the Quran - anyone interested in the human self development, this book is invaluable. Human self is based on the use of our mind to create our own personalty. The Quran gives us the permanent values and if we live our life within these values, then our thinking develops in line with the signs given in the Quran. Our outlook becomes global and we see the mankind as one community - then we can see the human issues on a global basis. The Quran is not a religious book as generally believed - it is a book which deals with the human thought process and helps us to create our own self which can go on developing......

As you would expect a well written and thought through book concerning how people think about the faith and its adaptation to the changing World and societal norms. A highly recommend read.

All time classic arrived on time. I prefer the other layout, this print is typeset poorly.
