Light weight and works better than I expected!
I live in Phoenix on an acre parcel and most of it is in desert landscape. Therefore no formal lawn to mow. Yaaa. However when it rains here the weeds grow, well like weeds. Fast and furious. This year we had lots of rain and lots of weeds. I've been running a battery powered weed eater every day for a week or so. My back is aching from twisting sideways back and forth so it was time to look for a better solution. I figured how about a small battery powered lawn mower and then I found this thing at about half the cost. So figuring I'd probably junk it after a couple tries I decided to give it a try. Really glad I did. Soon as it arrived I put it together and out I went. It had just rained again and everything was wet but I had to try it. Worked perfectly. Knocked down and chewed up everything I ran it over and no extra back pain as a bonus. I charged up the batteries( comes with 2) overnight and set out to do a good cleanup the next day. This thing is a real delight. It runs about 20 minutes on each battery and since the batteries are fairly small you can carry the spare one in your pocket. another thing about the batteries is the way they eject from the tool. Push the button on the battery and it pops out of the tool's battery compartment. I mention this because removing the battery from my other "green" weed eater is a real chore You have to push in 2 tabs, one on each side of the battery, and forcibly pull it from the tool. My wife can't even manage doing it and I barely can, often resorting to prying it loose with a screwdriver while pushing the tabs with both hands. The black and decker baterries just eject with 1 hand by pushing the button, I love it. When you get close to a fence or wall and the platform won't get close enough, the weed wacker removes from the deck instantly by stepping on a lever on the deck and lifting the handle of the weed wacker forward and up. To return it back in the deck reverse the process, simple and easy. Keep in mind this is a regular string trimmer. It is not a bladed lawn mower and does not do the job of a bladed lawn mower It is a string trimmer on wheels. because you push it similar to vacuming a carpet , front and back, front and back, instead of constantly twisting sideways it doesn't put the strain on your arms and back liike a regular string trimmer does. It does not mulch as fine as a mower would and if you have tall weeds or grass as I did you will need to make several passes, as you would with any string trimmer except you don't have to hold it up, just push it back and forth. I have not had to replace the line yet so I cannot comment on that, except to say looking at it, it looks like the exact same process as the other 2 trimmers I have. To clear the bottom of the deck I simply remove the trimmer and wash out the deck with a hose. its been coated with wet grass almost every time I finish. I'm sure dry shorter vegetation will cut much easier. I'm cutting damp weeds and bermuda grass about knee high. The deck is light weight plastic but seems durable enough. If the deck should deteriorate and I have to replace it, the replacement cost of the set is about the same as a different manufacture's string trimmer alone. but I'll worry about that if it happens. so far I have no regrets whatsoever.

Easy to assemble, easy to use
At the outset, I'm only giving a 4 star rating because I've just received it today, and have only used it once for a quick trial cutting of my backyard after getting one of the batteries charged. However, if it goes on as it started, I'll probably come back at the end of the summer and up the rating to 5 stars. This is a cordless string trimmer/edger with a neat little plastic cart that you can slip the trimmer into and use to roll over your yard to cut the grass easily. The wheels are adjustable (though I have not at this point attempted to adjust the height), and the trimmer slips into and out of the cart with amazing ease. Out of the box, the only assembly is putting the guard on the bottom of the trimmer and screwing in one screw to hold the guard in place. You do need your own Phillips head screwdriver but that's all. Then you put on the handle which pops on quite easily. It comes with two batteries and a charger. The first charge took about three hours. Once the battery was charged, I couldn't resist giving it a try, so I inserted the battery and gave my yard a very quick mow with the trimmer in the cart, I popped the trimmer out of the cart, and was able to trim around my fence, shed, and the grass between my paving stone walkway. It worked well all around. Once finished with the trim, it was easy to replace the trimmer into the little cart, remove the battery, and put the 'mower' into my garden shed until the weekend. All-in-all, I can say I'm very pleased with my purchase. It's very light, and so much easier for me to use than my heavy, cumbersome gas powered mower. And as you can see, the main word with this product is 'ease'.

Inexpensive weed whacker keeps on ticking
OK, so this is the second one of these I purchased on Amazon and I am still using it many years later. The noise level is outrageous but I only use it in my yard when the neighborhood gardeners are mowing nearby lawns. I actually use it as my main lawnmower for a small front and backyard. If you use it with the wheeled base, you can get a nice even cut with straight rows, but often I just go through the small front yard without the base. It helps strengthen my arms and wrist. It works perfectly as an edger and in area where the grass comes up between concrete slabs. Installing the plastic wire spools is not difficult but I just want to warn you not to install the spools with the battery installed in the unit. I think the unit is easy to push around. I'm 71 and still use it once every two weeks, though I sometimes need to rest a couple times when doing the much larger back yard. It is way less costly than a gasoline-powered or an electric mower. I had an electric mower for a while but it was just as noisy as this unit, the battery could not be replaced and, after a year, the battery would no longer charge. My unit is beaten up and has many grass stains and scratches, and sometimes the unit can disengage from the base if you don't keep the pressure on it the same, but when this one dies, I will probably by another one just like it.

Easy, Cordless, and Senior-Friendly Lawn Care Solution
This mower/edger combo has been a fantastic cordless addition to my lawn care tools. As a 70-year-old woman, I needed something lightweight and easy to handle, and this fits the bill perfectly. I recently let go of my lawn care service due to poor results and decided to maintain my lawn myself. This tool is simple to use and much easier to manage than heavy equipment. My only suggestion for improvement would be to include an additional charger. While the unit comes with two batteries, they are not quite enough to complete my ¼-acre lawn in one session. I purchased an extra charger so I can always have a battery ready to go, which solved the issue nicely.

Love this little guy
Can't tell you how much I've spent in landscaping plants only to have them destroyed by idiots with a weedeater. Due to some health issues have to hire yard help. Some I've billed for destroyed shrubs. With this little guy I can mow most of my yard, it doesn't take out bushes. My neighbors and friends are buying their own. It only cuts 12" wide at a time and only 2 heights, but it weighs next to nothing, gets into places the "real" mower doesn't want to go, charges at night. It even cuts zoysia if I don't try to go too fast. Easy to switch from mower to weedeater and back. I use an old paint brush to clean it off. It can hang on the wall. 4/15/22. This little guy is still chugging along. The deck keeps the trimmer string away from plants I want to keep. It allows me to mow my terribly uneven yard. It’s quick release to get into tighter areas with just the trimmer is just great. The little guard on the front of the trimmer allows me to carefully get into flower beds without damaging my bulbs. I had both knees replaced 2 years ago. I was able to keep my yard reasonably tidy before, during and after surgery. It’s still my go to power tool. It’s so light weight and a hard working little thing. I find the battery doesn’t last quite as long when mowing with the deck as it does without the deck. About a a 5 minute difference. I bought a B&D chainsaw with one battery so now have 3 batteries. I’m still using the original batteries so they are definitely long lasting. If I have a lot to do I charge all 3, start weeding. Take the spent battery and put it on the charger. Repeat. The first one is usually charged enough to finish my job. At least an hour’s worth of work with tough stuff. The spools that fit it seem to last a really long time. I enjoy the fact that I don’t have to bump it to feed out the line, it is just a continuous feed. Only one spool gave me a problem. It wasn’t feeding correctly, I popped it out and the line was stuck together in 2 little spots. Cut off about a foot and never have had another issue. Please don’t discontinue this nifty little yard tool. This year I’m 75 and still quite capable of doing most everything. I’m a short woman and just need tools to fit me and this one certainly does. Every short old person with grass needs one of these. Young tall ones can use this too, it saves your energy for hauling those heavy 50lb bags of dirt and cement for us old folks. Amazon let’s you try this for 30 days and return. B&D has great customer service. What do you have to lose??

Black & Decker should add a higher mowing height option, and a more secure mowing deck latch
Overall, I like the Black and Decker line of 20v. cordless outdoor tools. I have the blower and chain saw. They are lightweight and easy to work with. So, I was looking forward to the 3-in-1 Lawn Mower, String Trimmer and Edger. I have a mid-sized city yard, and cut my most of my lawn with a gasoline-powered mulching mower; thus the "3-in-1" is used as an auxiliary to the gasoline mower. The 3-in-1, when used as a mower, is fairly small to cut efficiently anything but a smaller swatch of lawn, which is fine for my purposes. It also does not mulch -- I did not expect it to, and that's also quite okay for small areas. The trimmer and edger aspects of the 3-in-1 work just fine. I just had two problems with the tool when used as a mower in the small areas in which I use it for that purpose -- places where my mulching mower cannot reach. (1) The mowing deck, at least in the unit I have, sometimes detaches by itself when mowing upward on a hill. I have to stop and re-set the rest of the unit into the deck, making sure it is securely latched as possible. The latching mechanism seems a little loose, and I have a fairly new unit. (2) As noted in the product description, the 3-in-1 can be adjusted to two mowing heights, the taller being 2.4". I knew this when I bought the 3-in-1, of course. My mulching mower is set to mow roughly an inch higher than that in summer months. I live in the Upper Midwest/Great Lakes region of the U.S., which typically has cool weather grasses which should normally be cut to about 3" tall at least in hot weather. Black and Decker should include a yet higher cut setting for those of us in the northern climates. I have set my 3-in-1 to the 2.4" height, used it a couple of times, and the grass in those areas has already shown more heat stress than the rest of the lawn, even in the shade.

Lightweight trimmer for small lightweight jobs
The package arrived opened and the instructions were crumpled, making me wonder if the item was used. The clasp at the back of the wheeled cover that is designed to hold the weed eater in place does not work well, often releasing as the mower is being pushed. The battery lasted about 15 minutes after charging for a full day and the string is the thinnest I think I have seen. That being said it did a good job trimming around my fruit trees but it is not suited for thicker grass or bigger jobs.

Great little unit
I absolutely adore this mower/whacker! I have multiple small areas of grass that were once a pain to drag a heavy lawn mower over. I also wasn’t a fan of keeping and dealing with gas to mow a few small areas. This tool is lightweight and switches between mow/whack easily. Not a great choice for wet/heavy greenery, but makes quick work of a maintenance mow. I wish the battery lasted longer, but I love how I can just switch batteries and keep going. It has come in handy in a variety of applications outside of mowing my lawn and I love it!
