I don't find mine breaking easy, I can have a heavy touch sometimes. They are great for line drawing and even dark shading.

I write as much as I draw. I prefer the darker 2B for writing. It jumps off the page with maximum contrast which I prefer. Each must choose their own preference. I’ve tried other hardnesses for writing. The 2B is the perfect darkness for me. It just works the best. The HB is better for drawing in my opinion. The key to finding your own preference is trying different darknesses of leads. These aren’t very expensive so it is a small price to pay for finding the best lead for what you do. Give these a try and you will find something that is well made and versatile. You may find you like both.

Compact holder keeps leads from breaking and travels well

I bought a Staedler starter set directly at the store and the included leads lasted for around 2 months, I never had problems with breakage. When they ran out, I couldn't find lead replacements at the store so decided to order them online. It's been 3 weeks and I have already gone through a whole pack of leads since they have been continuously breaking. I don't think it is my writing style since I have not had this problem with the leads that were included with my pencil. I am shocked that for the price I paid for these leads how much they break, I am questioning if they are genuine Staedler products since they are certainly not up to their quality standards.

What can you say about pencil leads? They're not broken. They're as described except for the packaging, which has been updated.
