I love the premise of the book along with the illustrations and the way it was written. I can’t wait to give it to my granddaughters.

I regretfully sent this book to my 11 year old niece as a gift without reading it myself first. The reviews would have you believe that is a perfectly reasonable decision. I have since ordered one for myself and realized that I may have made a mistake—the content of the stories, (while amusing and well written), includes descriptions of violence, rape, and gore. Yeah, probably not the best gift for an 11 year old…but good for these women of history?!

The media could not be loaded.  I have bought 3 of these books for my 2 sisters, 1 for my sister in law and I’m still buying 2 more and it’s on the way 1, for my best friend since grade school and 1 for my coworker! I enjoyed looking and read a couple of pages myself. This a Wonderful book to inspire and motivate including encouraging Women’s Empowerment!

This is a great read, on the power of woman, ages ago. How they recognized their own worth, and let no one stop them from from being who they are. We own these women of past history a huge thank you.They took charge of their own lives, against all odds , plunging through the control of men in power.They are to be admired, to be appreciated for the value they placed upon themselves, in a world then, that did everything to hold them back.

Perfect for young girls or women learning about their potential from other trail blazers. I personally wouldn't have included Steinam, as a little digging shows she helped derail the feminist movement, redirecting the ideal into the female version of the corporate CEO, and has the dubious distinction of winning a CIA-funded literary award that only had one recipient -- her, and was solely to give her literary cred earned while being an operative in Europe spying on other feminists. Troubling, too, the women warriors were further back in time but no newer ones, subtly conveying the idea that women USED to fight but don't anymore. Fashion and entertainment are modern role models.No doubt the selection list was tough. Other notable women readily spring to mind. Tomoe Gozen, arguably the greatest samurai warrior ever. Roasalind Franklin, whose X-ray work helped solve the DNA puzzle for Watson and Crick (Watson admitted that had she had a partner, she would likely have cracked the DNA structure before them). Deborah Sampson, the only woman to earn a soldier's pension for combat wounds earned during the Revolutionary War. Lyudmila Pavlichenko and Rose Shanina - 2 out of thousands of WW2 Soviet women snipers. The Night Witches (all female pilots in biplanes that terrorized the German troops). Sally Ride and Valentina Tereshkova were a given, but what about Christa McAuliffe and Judy Resnick of Challenger STS51 or Laurel Wood and Kalpana Chawla (Columbia STS107). La Maupin (Julie D'aubigney) -- fencer, duelist, and opera singer during the musketeer era! Commodore Grace Hopper. Queen Christina of Sweden. Lori Piestewa (Gulf War 1). Apache warrior Lozen. Frida Kahlo. Kathy Long and Cindy Rothrock - 1980s pioneer action film stars and martial arts champions. Mother Jones. This collection is only a starting point, but a decent one and it's accessible to young readers.

I originally ordered this book prior to its release. When it finally shipped, I ran home after work to find this beautiful gem. I am amazed every time I glance at it, or open the pages, to see its quality. The images and illustrations are a marvel all on their own. Then, you add stories of women who have been "bad" in their own right. Of course, not bad to say they necessarily committed crimes, but "bad" as to say they maybe ruffled some feathers. I started my very own "Bad Girls Book Club" with this book as our first read. At first, it began as a meeting of me and my two dogs (both females), while I read to them. Yes, I sound crazy, but I loved reading out loud. Slowly, we are gaining members and their pets (we don't discriminate on kind of pet). The book has helped me unite ties within myself, and other women. I am hoping to keep this book long enough to read to my very own child. Hopefully, they will be inspired to be "bad".

I love this book, I wish I had read reviews beforing buying it as a Christmas gift for my boyfriend's five year old daughter though! I made the mistake of not reading through it thoroughly before gifting it. Fortunately, when we read it for the first time last night, she didn't pick anything too adult. Her dad and I went through it afterwards and decided we would just seal the edges of some pages together so she doesn't come across any adult content on her own but so we can still break the seal for when she is older and we can discuss those topics with her then. For others where there is a brief mention of sexuality for example, we've just decided to skip over those parts when reading or will reframe those sentences in a more age appropriate way should she notice us skipping it or when she is able to read those parts herself.But overall, I am very impressed with this book and my step daughter loved it, even if most of what I read went over her head. She kept asking me to read one more, over and over until her dad was like "no, it's already way past bedtime." He was pretty stoked I got her this book too as it will encourage great discussions as she grows.

Bought for a friend as a gift. The illustrations are lovely and the interesting backgrounds about them are great. My friend said it was a really cool gift and she's been really enjoying reading about a new girl everyday
