Glad I pulled the trigger on this jewel and not the aluminum one!
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 **Outstanding Cargo Carrier!** This 500 lbs Heavy Duty Hitch Mount Cargo Carrier is a game-changer! 🛻 At **60" x 24" x 14.4"**, it offers an impressive amount of space, perfect for all your camping, traveling, or road trip needs. The construction is incredibly sturdy and well-made, handling up to **500 lbs** with ease—no wobbling or bending, even when fully loaded. The folding feature is a fantastic bonus, allowing you to save space when the carrier isn’t in use. The 2" receiver fits snugly on my SUV, ensuring a secure and stable connection throughout the drive. I love the elevated design that keeps luggage and gear off the road, protecting everything from dirt and debris. Perfect for hauling coolers, suitcases, or camping equipment, it’s a must-have for anyone who loves road trips or needs extra cargo space. Easy to assemble, install, and clean. This carrier truly delivers on quality and durability. I’d give it more than 5 stars if I could! Highly recommend—this is a purchase you won’t regret! 🚙✨

Great product
Very sturdy, used it for a road trip to Minnesota from Texas, loaded with all the junk a family of 5 would need! I had no issues. I did use a hitch stabilizer along with it, as I thought it would rattle a bit when going over bumps.

Solid cargo carrier, well worth the price
We decided on a hitch based carrier versus a rooftop carrier for a road trip recently. Decided to go with this one and it held up amazingly through a 2200 mi road trip from Wi to Florida and back. It arrived packaged well. The ends of the box were double layered for protection during shipping. Parts were strapped together to prevent things from moving around and causing damage during shipping and all of the hardware was included in a small box with washer and nuts paired with their corresponding bolt. Reviewing a lot of carrier options a common complaint is the instructions. This one has rather simplistic instructions but I found by doing some initial prep and studying they were ok. I took inventory of the hardware and studied the diagram well before jumping in. Overall assembly was pretty straightforward and I was able to manage it solo. I like that the nuts are locking nuts but I did add a little loctite blue for added insurance that a but wouldnt work it's self loose during travel. The hinges for the rails wrap around completely and I found them to be solid. Another common complaint I see with this style carrier is the locking pin that holds the rails up is rather loose and can come undone. For this one I found that they again were very solid and the springs in them have plenty of tension that it makes pulling them back during setup a little hard. I had no issues with them through out the trip. The kit includes a stabilizer bracket but I opted for a third party one that had rubberized coating that I figured would help with noise. With the stabilizer there was no up and down movement. There was a slight side to side movement so I used a shim between the shank and receiver wall to tighten that up. After that there was zero movement and we couldn't tell we had it on the back of our vehicle Maybe the only con with this one is that once in the loaded position it sits too close for us to open our lift gate. I knew this when I made the purchase and did so intentionally. The ones with enough room to open the gate seem to put too much stress on the shank and risk collapsing as I seen in some pics in reviews. I liked the additional integrity of it being closer to the vehicle In terms of size it holds a lot. We fit 3 large 18 gallon rubbermaid tubs side by side filled with clothes, etc plus room on the sides for other items. It's just slightly too narrow to fit four with lids but we found we had plenty of space for our stuff. Of course make sure to balance the load with the heaviest in the center. We opted for an additional storage bag for additional protection against the elements. It fit well and offered plenty of room and kept everything bone dry as we drove through some really severe weather Not know how much I would block my taillights I did purchase a set of led taillights for add safety that I attached as seen in the pics using some self tapping screws. While on vacation and not using the tack we simply locked it in the upright position which is also very convenient. I found that it was easy to attach by myself when it's in the upright position. I did wrap a strap around it and attached it to the safety chain holes on our hitch in case we lost the basket. You can see in the pics I was also able to secure our dog kennel to the back without issue. All in all I'm very pleased with the rack. It feels very solid and had no issues on our trip. I would check at every stop and nothing worked itself loose or at any point felt like something shifted and could have been lost. 100% recommend Link to carrier bag I purchased. This thing was made of heavy gauge material and held up extremely well. After our trip it still looked brand new. https://www.amazon.com/DEERMOTO-Waterproof-Carriers-Rainproof-Vehicles/dp/B0CN8ZY1VZ?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=AISRM3YWJD26J

Just installed works well
It came out of the package with some minor scuffs, but the installation was pretty quick. I’m pretty handy so it only took me about 10 minutes for someone that’s not handy. I would expect to Take take maybe 45 minutes. The instructions aren’t really too clear. The worlds are pretty good. The locking mechanism works well. It’s a little shaky but stabilizing parts which is a plus looking forward to using it says it’s rated for 500 pounds but I don’t think More than 300 pounds will use this weekend so may update

Excellent addition to extend cargo capacity of larger items
We purchased this for a 2016 Acura MDX with an installed OEM heavy duty trailer hitch. Our MDX also has OEM roof rails and cross bars but these can only support up to 200 lbs and I wouldn't put over 100 lbs up there as rough roads may cause issues with the roof supports. This was a better solution for bulkier/heavier items too big for the interior. We have used this multiple times for vacations and moving larger items around. Overall assembly took around 20 minutes mainly due to size/weight. I would recommend assembling in the garage or driveway. Materials are very sturdy and thick metal. Fasteners are solid and well made. Instructions were easy enough to follow. Installation/Removal is best done with 2 people but can be done alone if careful ( I would recommend a jack stand to help with). I bought a large wrench/socket to help loosen/tighten the retaining bolt to the trailer hitch. There are NO safety chains to attach. The pin/bolt are not attached so be careful where you place the clip when raising/lowering the platform. When lowered access to the MDX's rear hatch is easy with plenty of clearance. The package comes with a stabilizer plate and U bolt which I would use for heavier loads (this will increase your install time of course). You cannot open the MDX's rear hatch with the platform raised (with the sides retracted) as there isn't enough clearance, easy enough to lower the platform and raise as needed, just remember to put the pin into the correct hole when the platform is raised. I have used this in the rain (with a tarp and bungee cords) and it worked well, nothing got wet. Size is perfect for an oversized cooler and a couple of larger boxes to secure heavy/bulky items. I have hauled end tables and smaller appliances. I would use the included stabilizer plate on loads over 200 lbs as the tongue bolt is on the rear hole and it fits into the hitch only a few inches, it does not extend beyond the hitch opening under the car. Sides are easy enough to raise and lower with the snap pins and this makes loading super easy. Visibility isn't impacting by the carrier at all, depends on what you put in it. This does freak out the backup sensors and when reversing your visibility is considered to be gone, even empty it is mostly blocked. Remember what your total load capacity is and the hitches tongue weight limits. When going down the road and hitting a bump or dip your weight down-force will be slightly multiplied so avoid the stated max weights. This impacted MPG but I believe it was more weight than aerodynamics. Due to being able to put on/take off relatively quickly this expands the utility of your SUV/car greatly. Remember your vehicle's length will change when using this and reduced visibility/sensors for backing up. I would recommend this and wish I had gotten one sooner!

Follow my tips. Ignore the naysayers.
Took this on a week long vacation to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Used it on my 2015 Toyota 4Runner. I carried a large heavy ice chest, beach chairs, etc. Overall, I was very happy w the performance. I drove EXTREMELY aggressively, speeds close to 100mph, fast turns, etc. I drove it up and down the 4x4 beaches. I had zero problems with it. These are the things I liked about it: -easy to put together -sits high above ground -easy to use, easy to fold up when not using it -was BARELY able to open and close my rear gate when it’s in the down position -very good price -lots of places to attach bungee cords or straps Now here are some tips I recommend: -buy a cheap (<$20) hitch stabilizer to secure it better in your hitch mount. I used a RhinoUSA hitch stabilizer. -load weight evenly as possible left to right and keep weight closer to vehicle whenever possible -secure your load well with bungees or straps to keep it from moving -before putting it in storage, spray down any rusting areas, hinges, bolts, etc with a good spray like Seafoam Deep Creep (or WD-40) Things to keep in mind: -regarding the strength and durability of this item: this product is neither under-engineered or over-engineered. If it WAS over-engineered, it would be a LOT more expensive and a lot heavier. Follow my tips and you should be fine. -regarding the rusting: for the price point and materials this item is made from, you should expect some rusting which is why I recommend spraying it down with w a wd-40 variant before putting in storage. The only way for the manufacturer to have prevented this really would have been either to make it from a much more expensive metal, like aluminum, stainless steel, etc. and/or use an extremely thick metal with a very expensive powder coating or painting process. Again, this would drive the cost way higher. Spraying it down in key areas with .35 cents worth of a spray solves all your problems.

Something is terribly off with the hardware/design or I am doing something terribly wrong.
UPDATE: THE SELLER FAILED TO REACH OUT AND ADDRESS MY PROBLEM. I AM REDUCING MY REVIEW TO ONE STAR. SO DISAPPOINTED AS I CAN'T EVEN RETURN THIS OR GET IT FIXED AT THIS POINT. IT'S JUST TAKING UP SPACE IN MY GARAGE. SURE GLAD I BOUGHT IT BEFORE THE PRICE JUMPED UP SIGNIFICANTLY. HOPE IT WORKS OUT FOR THE REST OF YOU BUYERS OUT THERE. GOOD LUCK. The instructions were a little tricky, but once I figured out where all the little dashed lines were pointing, it wasn’t terribly difficult. The negative is that I immediately noted that there wasn’t a snug fit once the hardware/screws were in place. The closed end of the nut does not allow any tightening to take place. As pictured in the last two photos, there was a lot of extra “wiggle room” between the screws and the crossbars, and I’m not convinced that is intentional, nor beneficial in this case. The first photo shows how severely the cargo carrier tilts even when it is fairly evenly loaded with weight (the yellow plates are 25# and the green plate in the middle is 35#). There is no way this tilting and wobbling is remotely safe. What happens when I take a corner? Will the uneven weight make me fishtail? Will the hardware bend and break over time? I had my husband double and triple check my work. He couldn’t find anything that I had done wrong. There is no wiggle or wobble in the actual hitch/shank connection. That is a great fit. All the wobble is solely produced by the ill fitting screws. I really really hope someone here can point out my error so that I can rectify this situation, because I was banking on utilizing this cargo carrier for a spring break camping trip this weekend. It’s too late for an alternate option. The box was damaged in shipment, so I can’t easily return it either. Please comment if you have helpful tips! I would be thrilled to learn I goofed up with the installation! I am disappointed that this is not working as advertised. Very frustrating as a mom trying to take her three kids on a special camping trip over spring break.

Super convenient, sturdy cargo transport rack
I saw some reviews indicating this was hard to assemble, but from my perspective, if you're used to assembling furniture (IKEA type), this is way simpler, though the screws and parts are larger. I had it fully assembled in 30 minutes including the time it took to remove it from the box. There are some very hefty zip ties holding certain parts securely in the box, so make sure you have some tin snips, spade-type wire cutters or very heavy duty scissors available. I used a wire cutter. I bought this for an all-arounder, to use as a trailer when I didn't need a full trailer. It can fit a 21" snowblower, and you can maneuver things to get a lawnmower on there too. 2 days after I received it, I hauled 380 lbs of bulk debris using this rack along with a 4x6 elastic net. I piled well over the top of the rails, and even driving on a highway never felt nervous- no odd sounds or shaking. Quick note as well... My son and I were able to stand in the rack without any issue. Because these things are designed to hold distributed weight, you have to either balance yourself (No standing on the edge) or lay down. So that review that complained about the bent parts after standing probably didn't consider the weight distribution. I love the gates and fold flat feature, this one is designed better than the others I examined, and a decent price as well. My only issue is the design of the anti rattle lock nut. They provide an enormous bolt and nut, held in the chamber by a spring... But then you need to screw in from the other side, and put a lock nut over the tip of the bolt as well. A bit of inconvenient extra work to install and remove. I recommend the company looks at how Curt designs their lock mechanism. It's a 3/4" bolt (rather than 1") that goes into a welded nut, and the pressure between the welded nut and external bolt is what keeps the hitch accessory tight, no springs, no extra bolts. However, this issue is a minor inconvenience for an otherwise superior cargo rack. Update 2/5/21: I have hauled multiple loads of debris, brush, and flooring. Also have hauled the old Ariens 21" snowblower, with aggressive spin-outs and bumps with unplowed roads multiple times this winter so far. I do not keep the cargo rack on full time (recommend not doing this due to risk of rust). I have really strained and beat this thing to death, with significant pressure from straps on the cross bars as well. It has not bent or budged. I don't understand why one reviewer was able to bend this with 200 lbs. I have held a max of 380 lbs of debris (see pic), and have had no issues with bending. It's well worth it if you don't have a truck and need to haul nasty or heavy things on occasion.

Useful but
It is useful and as promised though it was slightly out of alignment with car end because of slightly bend end, regret as I needed to do a lot of try and error till I fixed it with some metal panel inserted in between!!
