Amazing equipment, it will last many years.
I've had this for more than a decade now, and it’s still going strong. I just tuck it away in the closet when I'm not using it—no special maintenance required. I even had a four-year hiatus where I didn't touch it, but when I took it out again, it worked just as well as the first day. If you ever accidentally drop it while it's hanging (which shouldn't happen unless someone tries to close the door while it’s in place) and it breaks, take it to a blacksmith to get it fixed. That happened to me at one point; I got it repaired, it looked brand new, and I’ve been using it for many years since.

Awesome product, super sturdy, great buy!
This is really a great product and works exactly as described. I have tried a few of these door mounted pull up bars and this one is by far the most stable, I'm 6'1" and ~185lbs. and it does not budge while I do well formed pull ups in any of the possible hand configurations. The setup took about 20min. and was a piece of cake! I would recommend making sure you have your own tools, just a pair of pliers or a crescent wrench would work, or a socket. the tool that comes with it isn't great for tightening everything down once you have the fit the way you need for your door. I have a small 1 br apt. and I only have one interior door that is capable of holding it. It is a narrow hallway, and the ceiling is just standard 8' I believe. I was worried about having room, but this is PERFECT (get it?) for small space and is pretty low profile, I don't know how but I can do great pull ups in a space I didn't think I would be able to! I can post pics. if anyone has a small apt. and is interested. All the padding is great and has held up wonderfully to nearly daily use so far! Great buy!

Sturdy enough / may damage doorframe / good enough for the price / some caveats
Feels sturdy enough. Not precision parts but doesn't seem to affect stability. After assembly, placing the completed item on a flat surface, I noticed a obvious wobble (think 4 legged table that needs to be adjusted). This affects how it sits on the doorframe but everything works itself once weight is put on it. Grip is comfortable. This might change over time as the foam breaks down. Comes with a combo screwdriver / crescent wrench tool but it breaks easily. Make sure you have a phillips screwdriver and an adjustable wrench just in case. Don't screw in the bolts attaching the hollow plastic horizontal crossbar too tight since it will damage the plastic crossbar. Those rectangular white brackets on either end of the bar have pads which are where the pullup bar rests against the door frame. Distance between inner edges of the pads is 27.75" Distance between the outer edges of the pads is 37" This means the door (or more accurately, the space between the inner edges of the door frame) must be less than 35" wide so you have 1" of supporting structure on each pad. The distance from the outer edges of those rectangular brackets in 38" The bar protrudes beyond the edges of those rectungular brackets. The distance between the ends of that pole is slightly over 39" This might be important if the doorframe is enclosed in something (say a hallway). A doorframe depth/thickness of maybe 9" is the max this will support. It works well enough with an 8" deep doorframe (hole #4 of 5 holes). Measure the depth from the outermost edge of the top edge of the doorframe on one side to the plane of the doorframe on the other side where the rectangular pads will rest. There are 5 holes; they're about 1" apart, which means it should support a minimum depth of 5". Max thickness of the top of the doorframe is about 6" (as measured from the top edge of the doorframe where the top crossbar would rest down to where the air begins--this is basically where the door is, but lower since the door overlaps part of the doorframe). It works well enough for a thickness of 4" which is using the middle of 5 holes, again these are about 1" apart. There's not really a minimum thickness but be aware that the length of the uncovered (white) portion of the curved pieces, as pictured, measures 5.5" from the end cap to the 5th hole. They will protrude above the top of the doorframe. Make sure you have enough space there. Some damage can be sustained by the top part of the doorframe where the top crossbar of the item sits. This happens when the depth of the top of doorframe is less than the depth of that plastic crossbar (which is about 1"). When this happens, those 2 curved metal bars will dig into the top of the doorframe. If installed properly, it seems those rectangular brackets will also make it more difficult to pop the bar off during use (compared to just using the horizontal bar) because it makes rotating the device while it rests against the doorframe more difficult. Those black padding foam sleeves are not cut away enough in spots where they would intersect the screw holes or the bar to which it would attach. Not a huge problem since they compress down, but does affect the way the pieces fit together.

An excellent multi-gym with a few mods
*December 2013 update: After 5 months of using this pull-up bar, it's still going strong. Nothing is bent out of shape, everything is like I just bought it. The mods I mention in my original review are still going strong too. Original Review from August 2013: Great product with some excellent enhancements over the leading competitors. Has some flaws but can be easily fixed. Pros: 1) Handles are fully foamed and is comfortable to grip. No gloves required. 2) The dense large foam pads on the sides really distribute the force against your door frame. No marks on the front side yet. 3) Fully adjustable to a variety of door sizes. There were some ignorant buyers giving this product a low review because they didn't read the description on the product before purchasing. This will fit the sizes indicated, but not any bigger than described. 4) As with all pull up bars, there are a variety of grip positions (chin-up, military pull up, wide pull up, neutral pull up, etc.). If you haven't done military pull ups before and aren't able to do so easily, I'd recommend starting with chin-ups and neutral pull ups to build your upper body strength. Cons (but can be fixed with some simple mods): 1) The bolts didn't feel super sturdy and one of them wasn't threaded properly. Being 186 lbs, I confirm that the bolts did hold, but I really didn't feel safe on it. So I went to my local hardware store and bought new steel bolts and nuts. No way this thing is falling apart now. =) 2) Below long gray bar that sits on the top of the door frame there is the metal white frame of the pull up bar. This part of the frame will cause damage to the paint job of your door frame. Here is what I did to fix that problem: After I had the pull up bar appropriately adjusted for the door frame, I took note of exactly which exposed sections of the pull up bar came in contact with the frame. For my door, it was the inch directly below gray bar. So I used dense foam normally used for air conditioner insulation, and wrapped it around that section and secured it with postal tape. Now, there is no fear of further damage. As an added bonus, it make the pull up bar even more secure with the added friction. Summary: All pull up bars that attach to door frames will be inferior to the full sized machines. Either the material, or the design will be flawed. However, this one comes pretty close to perfect, and with the two simple mods I mentioned above, it will serve its purpose very well.

You don't get the item in the picture
The photographs of this item on the Amazon sales page show the old Perfect Pullup Bar with multiple points of vertical adjustment and multiple points of horizontal adjustment. There are at least four bolt holes shown for each plane of adjustment. Vertical adjustment allows for a good fit over a variety of door trim. Horizontal adjustment allows for good fitment to multiple wall widths The product sent looks superficially similar to the photos but there are only 2 points of adjustment vertically and only 2 horizontally. This was dishonest advertising. The return was accepted but the method of return requires the buyer to package and label the product return.

LOVE my easy-to-install pull up bar SO MUCH!
I bought this amazing pull-up bar by Perfect Fitness at the recommendation of a friend who got it at the recommendation of a YouTube user to help him with "frozen shoulder" - and he was raving about it. I've had this 2016 goal of getting stronger especially in the upper body and I've been doing so many things but learning to do pull-ups has been a secret wish so I splurged and got this pull-up bar immediately. I LOVE it! Here are the reasons why: 1. Easy to install: He came over and installed it for me in 10 minutes. All the screws that you would need are included. You just need a small wrench to do the job. I didn't do it on my own because he owed us a favor but I probably could have figured it out. It comes with instructions. 2. Easy on the door frame and wall: This ingenious design is so brilliant that you can (1) take it down by simply pushing up on the bars and sliding it off the door frame. No screw/unscrew, nothing. It comes off so easily you'd be surprised! (2) It does absolutely no harm to the door or wall because you are not screwing it into the wall or doorframe. All the set-up is within the pull-up bar itself. 3. Versatile: You can use the pull-up bar so many ways and each one builds a new set of muscles. There is the wide grip and the narrow grip and the reverse grip and that's just what I know so far. I am still exploring. I've attached my FIRST ever pull-up in a video and am surprised by how strong I already am, but ways to go to get stronger still. 4. Floor exercises: You can see in the manual that comes with it that you can do a number of floor exercises. My friend has done this and finds them even harder than some of the pull-up challenges. I'm waiting to explore those. 5. High quality: While this is my very first pull-up bar, I can tell that the quality is solid and I trust it to hold me up and keep me up :)! Overall, I cannot recommend this Perfect Fitness Multi-Gym Doorway Pull Up Bar highly enough!!!!

Milling and molding process is defective but still usable.
This is a good upgrade from years' past but there was a problem with a milled hole and the side of the plastic crossbar cracked when placed into the frame. I had to drilled a bigger aperture hole for the torx screw and can live with the cracked plastic because the turnaround refund time is so long. We'll see how it all holds up. I didn't want to give a bad critique but it will warn the manufacturer to make a better product in the future.
