This chess set is of great quality. The wooden chess pieces are wonderful. I love that they are magnetic so any movement of the board will not move the pieces. The only minor thing is that the chess board itself did not lay entirely flat on the table but it didn’t matter too much because the magnetic chess pieces stay in place.

For the price it is very well-made. Looks more expensive than it is.

Good for the money

I purchased this chess set as a last-minute Christmas gift for my preteen son after we watched a movie in which the characters were playing chess and started asking 30,000 questions about how to play. It's been worth every bit of the roughly $20 I paid! Some of the pieces are a little crooked, but the magnets hold strong enough to keep us from accidentally moving or knocking them over. Each piece fits snugly in its nest, and there's an extra queen for each side, in case a pawn makes it across the board. 😀The only less-than-desirable trait of this set--besides the crookedness of the 2nd queen which might actually be intentional?--is that when the chess board is opened and facing up, the metal latches and wood may scratch the table it's sitting on. Not a huge problem, but something to watch for when setting it up to play.The game play instructions that came with it were fairly well written, at least for me because I've played before...long ago, but they were enough to refresh my memory.Not a fancy set by any means, but it certainly is perfect for what I wanted it for!

Love that the pieces are magnetic. I play chess with various grandchildren, texting each other our moves, so its handy in case the n parts get bumped. I have multiple boards for me and they each have a board. They will be wonderful keepsakes that will last for years, Im sure!

This set is actually amazing for the price. If you are using to play it at home, that is great. If you are using it as a travel set, you will still need a table as there is no way to lock the board open.I purchased this for a study board while traveling so the locking open part is important to me, but 95% of people will not have this issue.I was very impressed with the quality. I will keep this one just because it is so nice, but for a travel study board I still need one that locks open.

Works as expected with pieces holding in place during the car trip.
