iJDMTOY Clear Lens Red LED 3rd Brake Lamp Compatible With 02-06 MINI Cooper R50 R53 1st Gen, OEM Fit High Mount Brake Light Powered by 8 Brilliant Red LED Lights

Failed my safety test due to failed third brake lights; so I ordered this and replaced it. The electric connector isn't exact with the original, but the kit comes with pin connectors as easy workaround, which indeed is easier to install. The light is bright and direct, its case warps all electronics where the original ones doesn't (in which this is the cause of the failure of my lights). I'd highly recommend this to anyone who has one's mini 3rd brake light failed and would like to replace it by itself.

Just what i wanted and fit perfect, less than 10 minuets to install.

The light looks well made and worked when I first connected it to my car. HOWEVER, it is impossible to keep it permanently connected to the wiring because apparently, Mini changed the connection starting from 2005 and up. In my research, I learned that in 2004 and below, the third brake light has a separate wiring harness that connects between the car's wiring and the third brake light's wiring. On each end of this wiring harness, there are clips so this allows the wiring harness itself to be removed from both the car's wiring and the third brake light via the clips. You NEED this wiring harness to connect iJDMTOY's brake light to the car's wiring, otherwise it will not stay connected, which I will explain later. EDIT: i've uploaded a couple of pics that show the re-design where MINI soldered the wires to the circuit board, instead of using another connector. In 2005 and up, Mini removed one of the clips of the wiring harness and instead, soldered the wires to the OEM third brake light, so it makes the wiring harness and third brake light into 1 piece. The other end of the wiring harness (with the clip) connects to the car's wiring. The problem is if you replace the third brake light with iJDMTOY's, and attempt to push the car's clip into iJDMTOY's third brake light, it will not stay in place and will fall off if you attempt to install the third brake light on the car. Now, you can use tape, but who knows if that will hold because the car's wiring forces the connection to bend and become parallel with the third brake light, yet, if you look closely at the connection part of iJDMTOY's third brake light, it is sticking straight out, perpendicular to the light. Therefore, before you order any aftermarket light, make sure of your connection. If the wires are soldered to the circuit board of the brake light, then you might be out of luck and will have to order a brake light that has the wiring harness soldered to it, just like i had to.

I had to pull up on my spoiler to get this in and out of place because the nuts were too hard to remove. But the light replacement part was easy.

Works and looks great. Install was a breeze, 3 screws out and in. LED's are very bright and hard to miss.

First off the light looks great and the lens seems to be decently thick compared to factory or my last aftermarket 3rd brake light. Now to the bad (or maybe just bad for me and fine for you)... I happen to have a VIS real carbon fiber hatch on my Cooper and despite the factory and last aftermarket light fitting in like a glove I had to modify my hatch to fit this since the mounting holes of the hatch and the screw holes on the light don’t line up. I will say though the lens quality really got me so I decided to mod the hatch so I could keep it... Note if you do need to mod your hatch to fit this unit may new holes about 1/8 inch off the other holes and it’ll work great.
