Dear Dragon: A Pen Pal Tale

My family loves this book- 3-6 year olds, and my 8 year old enjoyed reading it with them. It is very cute. It will lead to good discussions about friendship and perspectives in my groups at my work as well.

This is an adorable book about how we are all more similar than we are different, despite our many differences that make us unique! I used this as a read-aloud with my fourth graders when we started our poetry unit.

While I do wonder how much very young readers will grasp the many lessons to be learned in this book, it is beautifully done and very fun for kids to read. I read with a 3rd grade student of mine and will with my own child who will be starting 2nd. The 3rd grader I "tested it out on" loved it, giggled, but needed help to understand some of the deeper meanings. If nothing more than a story, it's a good one. However, I believe with some guided discussion and follow up on themes, it can be a wonderful catalyst for discussions on diversity, perspective, racism -among other themes!

Oh my goodness. The writing. The Illustrations. So much to love. Cherished by a 5 year old and both his parents!

Great book - can be friends despite physical differences. Illustrations are awesome and lend itself to discussing visualization and how they may not match what the author (pen pal writer) was really doing but how we make inferences based on our own personal background.

The rhyming Mr Funk drops another winner! 3 for 3 with my kids. They love hearing it, parents love reading it, great story, and great pictures that keep everyone hanging around though the story and coming back for more story time!

Very cute book with great illustrations. The kids really like it.

I'm obsessed with Josh Funk books! I don't like to read books by anyone else to my little- I enjoy them just as much! I also recommend all of his other titles.

It was a delightful book with a great rhyming scheme about a dragon and boy who become pen pals. My 7 year old nephew loved it!
