Will this work for my ipod 40 gb model # a1040?

Works for third generation iPods.

Does this work for the.3G nano

I doubt it as it is too large to fit into a Nano. This battery is almost as wide as the old iPods as it takes up about 50% of the internal space.

Does this include the pry tool?

Not really, I believe it included small flat blade and Phillips screwdrivers. I used a pry tool from a previous battery replacement.
