Great Resource
I used to go to Gaslight Square to watch the guys airbrush shirts in their set ups on the sidewalk. This book gives a historical as well as detailed angle on the work through the decades. I still airbrush for family and friends and I feel I can never learn enough. Great little book.

Loving tribute to a an artist both technically gifted and wacky as hell
This book is a joy. Bill Campbell (no relation) was a "populist" artist whose straight art (like plane illustrations) was dynamic, well-drafted, and pretty accurate. His crazy model art and caricatures were frenetic and silly, very much of their period yet still enduringly popular. This inexpensively printed book has plenty of biographical material but, more to the point, hundreds of illustrations of Campbell's work. Not just box art and sketches but also maquettes and finished models. It ends with pictures commissioned by a brilliant fan whom I envy greatly.

Wonderful and Wild Weird-oh Art
Simply put - this book is fantastic! If you were a kid in the 60's (like me) there is no doubt you were very familiar with Bill Campbell's wild art. Weird-ohs were a big deal back then and just about every kid I knew built at least one Weird-oh kit. They were just so far out! This book will satisfy all you modelers out there with great inside stories about HAWK Models. There is also great boxart, instructions and built-up kits. Lots of artwork you have never seen before and art for kits that were never produced. Plus all the great collectibles. There is so much in this book you will be amazed. Thanks to Bill Campbell for inspiring my imagination. Much thanks go to Mark Cantrell for doing this book - something I have wanted for almost 50 years. Buy it - you'll love.

Awesome collection of fun art
Awesome collection of fun art. Nice bit of history about the artist, I'm always pleased to find out my favorite artists from the era are also WWII veterans. My only complaint- several of the images are very small...one of the negatives about laying your book out on a computer screen I suppose.

I've enjoyed reading about the Man who inspired The Artist inside
A well done book on his life and his Art. I've enjoyed reading about the Man who inspired The Artist inside! I bout some of his Prints from his Daughter a few years back - She said he was still painting! Great to hear that!

Wonderful weirdness!
Freakin' awesome! A huge amount of pages and they're all packed with great artwork! I'm gonna have to hide this one from some of my buddies ... or they'll likely end up talking me out of it, and make me go buy myself another copy or two!

What a great, fun book
What a great, fun book! In addition to the Weird - Oh artwork as featured on the kit boxes, it has photographs of the made up models and all the associated merchandise which went with them, including the short - lived TV series which aired in America in 1999. Also featured are the other Campbell - designed caricatures like the Silly Surfers and The Frantics, a sixties beat group complete with dancing (and vaguely stoned looking) fans. There are many reproductions of Campbell's artwork for more serious subjects like the Hawk Model aircraft boxes and railway kits. The real treat for Weird - Oh fans are the many and varied illustrations for proposed kits that never made it into production - some of which are published for the first time. The revelation for me was the selection of Campbell's fine art - portraiture, landscapes and dynamic character studies which show a really great artist at the peak of his powers. 190 pages of unalloyed delight - very highly recommended for lovers of those incredibly ghoulish monsters and forart lovers generally. those who

Missing high quality
I really wish there had been high quality prints of Bill’s work in this book. Great story and illustrations, but I really wanted to see the original art in its highest form, not on the cover of a model kit. Disappointing.
