Briggs & Stratton 25 HP 724cc Commercial Turf Engine 1" x 3-5/32 Vertical Shaft 44T977-0015

I just got this engine and installed it. It runs great. I noticed the price went up 95 dollars since I bought it last week to now 795 which is still ok I guess since these are reject John Deere engines that how a possible leaky sump gasket. As the for the rusting flywheel other reviews have notice they are idiots. You wont find a mower flywheel without some surface rust even if stored indoors. It does not affect the performance. Overall it's an awesome engine. If you want more power than this you don't need to be cutting grass you're an idiot.

Clearly not a brand new engine! Rusts allover the engine! It doesn’t start! After adding thinner directly to the Carb it did! Yet at high speed started to go rough! After 5 mins run, turned it off and again it does not start! Obviously was stored somewhere outside and now the carburetor needs a service too! No warranty info on the page! For someone who bought this engine to retrofit no manual wasn’t an issue but not having even the bolts for the exhaust is! It would have been only $2.00 but without knowing the size that was a pain to open it again to remove the exhaust and find out it uses M8 1.25 bolts!And there was a little bit oil inside! At least half a quart!!!Both magnetos look a little bit worn!A note for anyone not doing a direct replacement: wiring: Red: Regulator (12V charging wire), Gray: Fuel Solenoid (needs 12v when On), Black: kill Switch ( (needs ground to kill - open when running)

What I like is that this engine is manufactured for the John Deer lawn tractors. It is a commercial engine with a very good air filtration system and an oil cooler.My old engine had to be replaced because of the inferior air filter that allowed the dirt to bypass the filter and destroy the engine.This engine comes without threads in the block for the four mounting bolts, but a thread tap, or bolts and nuts will remedy that, and the exhaust mounts have studs, that are 8x1.25 mm, in the heads instead of using the bolts in the old engine.This engine swap was on a Craftsman 3000 series lawn tractor. If you do the same, you will have to raise the front hood mount to clear the air filter housing.

Great price for this motor. The one I received had a date code prior to the sump gasket fix (15051xxx, probably why JD didn't want them), but if I get unlucky and have a leak, the warranty should take care of it. Seller is super helpful and knowledgeable on the phone. Took about 2 hours to take my old motor off, and less than 1 to put this one back on. This was a direct replacement for the existing Kawasaki that died. Plug and clutch was direct swap. It starts easily, runs smoothly and uses about the same amount of fuel. The air filtration seems more efficient at keeping particles out of the airstream to the filter the filter stats clean a lot longer than the kawi did Has all the power the kawi did and is a bit quieter. At half the price this is an awesome deal.

I got this motor and installed it about 3 months ago, and have been using it since in my zero turn mower. It replaced a Kawasaki 21HP engine that bent a rod. It runs well, and does produce power, but bogs so much under load, which makes no sense. when cutting the grass, i cannot go full speed in any area of my lawn that is thicker. I'm mowing the lawn about every 5 days, so its not like I am asking too much. I tried taking some covers off to see if I could find the low power issue, and discovered alot of the top of the motor was rusty just like the other reviewer posted. I dont know if this was a rebuilt motor they are advertising as new?

I replaced the original engine in a JD z425 with this engine and have mowed my lawn all day with it. It’s absolutely excellent so far. It was packed very well and came with zero damage. Engine is strong and solid definitely recommend it!It was a breeze installation and everything plugged right in to original equipment!!!

I replaced the original engine in a JD z425 with this engine and have put about 20hrs on it. It’s fantastic so far. My only complaint was the terminal on the starter was broken loose from the plastic housing. It works but I had to repair it to keep it in place. I can’t say for sure if it came like this or if it happened during installation but be sure to thoroughly inspect the engine upon receiving it. It was packed well enough but based on the condition of the box it had a bumpy ride to my house. Engine is strong and solid definitely recommend it!
