Art Workshop for Children is not just another book of straightforward art projects. The book's unique child-led approach provides a framework for cultivating creative thinking and encourages the wonder that comes when children are allowed to freely explore the creative process and their materials. As children work through these open-ended workshops , adults are guided on how to be facilitators who provide questions, encourage deep thinking, and help spark an excitement for discovery. Children explore basic materials and workshops that use minimal supplies, and then gradually add new materials to fill the art cabinets as well as new skills and more complex workshops. Most workshops are suitable to preschool-aged children , and each contains ideas for explorations and new twists to engage older or more experienced artists . Interspersed throughout are sidebar essays that introduce perspectives on mess-making, imperfection, the role of adult, collaborative art, and thoughts on the Reggio Emilia method , a self-guided teaching philosophy. These pieces underscore the value of art-making with children, and support the parent/teacher/care-giver on how to successfully lead, question, and navigate their children through the workshops to result in the fullest experiences. Review: So happy with my purchase - This is such a wonderful resource for anyone interested in exposing their young children to art. Projects are so simple and fun. I want to do each and everyone of these! Great ideas for process based art. Well organized and photography throughout the book is so cheery and inspiring. Review: a path to creativity presented in "day-glo". - a useful idea book for use with pre-school, kindergarten, even first/second grade artists ...I suppose that an adult could find a way to adapt the freedom of childhood creativity to their own search. But why 5 stars ? -the focus and exuberance!

Projects that even I (adult) want to try
I‘m a grandma who really wanted to do art projects as a kid - but we were poor and times were so different back then. I managed to do better for my daughter, and now for my granddaughter and her friends who are here frequently, I‘m constantly looking for ideas. This book is a tremendous asset. Here‘s what I like about it: * provides pedagogical guidance * contains wonderfully imaginative projects * clearly lists all materials * spells out the process - with accommodations for different ages * pictures lovely kid-produced finished art * advocates use of many everyday materials/recycled materials, as well as purchased supplies * as an ebook, this displays wonderfully on my iPad in the Kindle app

Fun with paints for young kids
This book was exactly what I was looking for. Perfect easy painting projects for my 3 and 5-year old. Easy multimedia ideas. Great supply and instruction lists. Each project has a "variations for next time" section with additional ideas. Very little (if any) work for the parent to prep ahead of time. Set up a station for yourself and do the project with your kids!

Some very great ideas represented in a good quality book with many pictures. I've used it several times in an elementary after school art group. And it has helped guide me to some art supply purchases. I thought a few more projects and a little more variety would have made this a GREAT book.

Wish this had darker and more easily visible font/ print for reading
This is a beautiful book with great ideas. I just wish the font was easier to read: it is printed on glossy paper with very fine and pale font. This is making it very hard for my eyes to read the book. Which is a bummer because I really would like to be able to read it with ease. Usually, I am able to read things without needing eye-glasses. But this, even if I put my reading glasses on, is still hard to see.

A Must Have Resource!
Art Workshop for Children is a beautiful resource for caregivers, teachers, art studio owners or anyone curious about the Reggio Emilia pedagogy. Barbara Rucci has created the book that I have been searching for for many years. The carefully curated projects, gorgeous photos and expert commentary by Betsy McKenna are thoroughly inspiring!

AMAZING
I am an art instructor for children as well as an artist, and I cannot recommend this book enough! It is perfect for anyone looking for open-ended art projects for children that are not just crafts. There is a great mix of projects for all ages. I taught two of the projects to a group of 10 kids aged 6-2 years old and they could all participate. Well worth the money spent!!

Stunningly beautiful and simple art provocations
This book is absolutely beautiful! And perfect if you're looking for ideas of where to start with art with toddlers/preschoolers. The photography is stunning, the ideas are simple and clearly laid out, and it's very easy to follow. I've bought a number of process art books, but this is by far the best. I love it! Will be using this for many years to come with my two boys (4 years and 2years), and will be sharing with our home educators group.
