One of the many great stoner comedies
The first time I saw Pineapple Express was on the Fox channel. I knew while watching it that I had to own it. First I'll lay out the plot for you. The plot is somewhat simple. It's about two guys, one named Dale Denton (Seth Rogen) and Saul Silver (James Franco). Dale is customer of Saul, who is a drug dealer. It's tough for Dale to accept the fact that they are friends at first, but later on to the end he accepts it and their friendship becomes stronger. Anyway, one day while Dale is going home after buying some marijuana from Saul, he stops his car on the side of a street to smoke his joint. across the street he sees inside a house someone getting shot. scared and shocked, he flees the scene and throws his joint on the street. the man who shot the other guy, Ted Jones, is actually a drug dealer who sold the weed that dale smoked to another guy named red who gave some of it to saul making him the only one besides dale who uses it. After learning about that, saul and dale hide in the woods for a while so the dealers wont know where they are. Red, who gave the drug to saul and is best friends with saul, is forced to help ted jones find out where and who dale and saul. his reason for this is that he is in a drug war with the asains, and that is also why he shot the man who was an Asian drug dealer. and since he doesn't know who dale or saul are, he is suspicious that they could be working for the Asians. There's a lot to explain, and I don't want to give too many spoilers. The movie all in all is astounding and has an amazing cast. Some of the actors you may know for working in other films together aka Seth Rogen and James Franco who both starred in the short-lived but amazing show, Freaks And Geeks. Also Danny McBride and James Franco were in another film together after this one called Your Highness, which is another film that I would recommend if you like this film. the acting is great. For me I think the coolest character is Red who is played by Danny McBride. Despite being shot many times in the film he still survives in the end. Plus I'm a big Fan of Eastbound and Down which stars Danny as the lead character Kenny Powers. Seth Rogen and James Franco's chracters are also favorites of mine and to me are the third best stoner duo the others being Harold and Kumar and Cheech and Chong. I would seriously recommend this film to anybody who want some good laughs and like action, stoners, drugs, and friendship. Also some other facts, ted jones is played by Gary cole who does a great job at being the bad guy. also the name of the drug that was given to dale and saul was called Pineapple Express, which explains the title of the film

To all the dopes that **actually** hate this movie....ARE YOU ST----
AMAZON: Please don't censor this post. I think it's important to say ...especially now.WHAT IN THE WORLD? This is a classic American comedy that will forever be one. I could swear the newer gens are among the dummmest folks around when it comes to zany comedy while taking the world and political / social correctness too serious. Reminds me of coocoobooboo neighbors that I should have never put in my building as a realtor. More younger folks are actually giving it bad reviews on Metacritic...it's almost at 6 out of 10. I feel like I'm in Millennial /Gen Z h---. Ppl get a grip and a life! These guys including McBride are the bomb and need to get back in the studio soon!! If you're not like these coocooz, you will love this if you haven't seen this at least 10 times yet and/or been living under a rock.

Wildly funny and completely inappropriate
Wildly funny and completely inappropriate, PINEAPPLE EXPRESS combines ribald, marijuana-fueled comedy with action and violence. Imagine a Cheech and Chong film directed by Quentin Tarantino, and you'll have a general idea of the feel of the film. Written by star Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who also wrote Superbad, Pineapple Express offers a similar blend of meatheaded male bonding and foulmouthed comedy; of course, in Superbad, the teen heroes were facing humiliation and the opposite sex, not death and dismemberment. (An interesting aside: In a GQ article about Rogen, Pineapple Express producer Judd Apatow offered his own anti-pot take on the film, noting that he feels the movie "is clearly a story about how pot leads to Asian gangs trying to murder you.")Pineapple Express has plenty of action and broad jokes (a car chase gone wrong is wildly funny), but it's the interplay between Rogen and Franco that makes the film truly worthwhile. Rogen is short-fused, irritated, and frustrated; Franco is so laid back he's nearly in a coma. Both actors shade what could have been one-note performances with nice moments of depth that make the comedy even funnier -- Rogen's Dale steps up and does the right thing on several occasions, while Franco's Saul shows glimmers of self-awareness and self-doubt through the thick haze of reefer smoke he lives in. Director David Gordon Green's prior films (All the Real Girls, Undertow, Snow Angels) have been art-house hits, but Pineapple Express may make him a mainstream success; similarly, it's safe to say that this will be Franco's biggest movie ever without the words "Spider" or "Man" in the title. Pineapple Express's mix of blunts and body count won't be for everyone, but also much more of a movie than it looks like, brilliantly mocking and celebrating buddy-action movies while giving Rogen and Franco great lines and great characters. Funny, funky, and fresh, Pineapple Express may be one of the standout comedies of 2008.

Chemistry of two lead roles
What makes this film brilliant is the chemistry between Seth Rogen and James Franco. It's one of the best I've seen in any film. It is so good it over rides the slim plot line and silly ending, just brilliant!! this type of chemistry cannot be created or copied it just happens every now and then in a few films. For example dude where's my car was a rubbish film because that X factor was missing between the two lead roles. I've lost count on how many times I've seen this film. Excellent 5/5
