Pennington Smart Sun & Shade Grass Seed, 3 Pounds

Our soil is not the best and we have in the past used a grass seed mix formulated for our neck of the woods. The new lawn area is outperforming the older established lawn. Visitors notice it right away. The big plus to this seed is that it does not need the volume of water our old lawn needs. An excellent 5-Star lawn (seed).

I purchased a bag of Pennington Smart Seed Dense shade and a bag of Pennington Smart Seed Sun and Shade and mixed them together. Despite wonderful growing conditions and proper watering I have zero germination. I am a state certified Master Gardener so I have a bit of experience at this. I am disappointed. Oh well back to the Kentucky Fescue I go.Update: It took twice as long to germinate as it should have, but it finally did. I'm changing my rating from a one start to a three.

I live in WI so this winter will be the actual test as to how it does come spring. I mixed it wth a smart patch to increase the amount of seeds and strengthen the patch. So far the areas I have done are looking fantastic. I am thrilled it is thick and growing great and is now up close to 3 inches in most of the areas. I am hoping it looks as good come spring.

This seed germinates well. More importantly, the grass does not dry up like Scott’s with lack of rain. I recently had my front yard graded and reseeded. The landscaper used Scott’s seed. Poor germination, big empty patches, and grass dies when it dies not rain often. I am reseeding Pennington.

Seeds sprouted quickly - about 3-4 days. I used this to re-seed some bare spots in my lawn due to low light and erosion. So far this has done exactly what I needed.

I’ve used this in the past with good results. After nearly three weeks of excellent cool growing conditions I see zero grass sprouting. I suspect the package was subjected to conditions that killed the seeds. Not sure how to ask for a refund on this since I have nothing that could be returned.

I have used this brand for years. Great color and durability. Easy to grow when you attend to it properly-watering etc when young. Stay green all winter.
