Ecstatic Healing: A Journey into the Shamanic World of Spirit Possession and Miraculous Medicine

listen to your heart
Found myself loving this book, which is a personal description of one person (the author)'s direct experiences with different realities from the one we usually refer to as "normal".The direct experiences include trance healing & mediumship of different kinds, some assisted by the spirit of ayahuasca, with very clear observations that leaves the reader without doubting the truth of the experiences. Nice !In this present book, de Wys goes to Brazil (among other places) and the Casa de Dom Inacio in Goias to experience the mediumship offered there + receive spiritual interventions at the hands of the spirits working in the spiritual hospital there, - and this is my point of contact with her story, myself being on a different track, trained as a therapist (Experiential Family Therapy) and having participated in many workshops of the A. Lowen kind : bio-energetic and with bodywork aiming to set ecstasy free as the ultimate personal freedom. But also owing my present status as a healing medium to my training at the casa and to the actions I've taken in terms of learning specific skills for chakra-balancing - something which would have made me laugh only 15 years ago, had anyone suggested to me that I'd be going down the road of healing and mediumship myself.I love this book for adding a dimension of knowledge that I can relate to to my practises. The very down-to-earth way of writing makes for enlightened reading and I'm finding myself and what I do acknowledged by this very inspiring story.A friend has worked with ayahuasca for many years in a different area of Brazil - I'll be sure to let her know of this book - and I do highly recommend it to others who are "out there" searching for what truth looks like - here you'll find a broad spectre of answers !

An Exquisite Journey
Just as in "Black Smoke," her first book, in "Ecstatic Healing" Margaret De Wys takes us on an exquisite journey to faith - found, lost, and ultimately regained. We are led to the edge of our own mind's ability to believe, and if we choose not to willingly jump we are pushed into the abyss of the unbelievable. We can feel her pain, understand her confusion, envy her ecstasy even as we tremble in our own fear and doubt.Margaret's journey is one few of us would ever have the courage to take. Through "Ecstatic Healing" we are offered an opportunity to follow hers, to experience the unbelievable in safety and comfort, and whether we want it or not, our boundaries of belief are forced out just a little farther because of it.And because of it, we are able to glimpse the possibility that exists in each of us.

The Power of Pursuit
This book is for seekers and students of the Universe. Margaret takes the reader outside our limited view of how the world works and allows us to consider other possibilities. Students of expanded consciousness will recognize much of their own journey through Margaret's telling and her story puts an exclamation point on what you may have believed is possible. The most exciting part of this read is Margaret herself and her courage and relentless pursuit of what is possible for all of us. This book comes with its own palpable vibration and it carried me along until the final paragraph. Thank you, Margaret for showing us what is possible when we have the courage to look beyond our limited conditioning. Bravo!

Fairly good.
The book was fairly good. I thought she made some dumb mistakes, and I wanted to shout at her,"NO, do not do that!!!" But hey, she had already done them...

Perplexed
Well, the lady has certainly seen and experienced a lot in the world of shamanic healing and spirit possession....somehow, though, the book lacks depth....she relates the most intense and complex experiences of possession and trance and healing as if she was giving the weather forecast, I didn't get the sense that I was grasping the deep meaning of what she was saying.....the most puzzling thing, though, which frankly left me a bit perplexed, was her experience with the Umbanda religious community in Brazil. De Wys doesn't seem to care what spirits possess her, as long as she lives an intense, overwhelming, emotional experience with the supernatural, and, as someone who knows something about the spirit world , or the other dimension, if you wish, I believe it is very dangerous to convey the message that what's on the other side is always good and helpful, and that it is always worthwhile to lend our bodies to be vessels for their energy.....The book did raise some interesting questions in me, anyhow.
