A perfect snapshot of mid 90s deep south indie wrestling
I have been trying to find this documentary for right at 10 years now. Heard about it under the name Southern Discomfort. But that version was Out of print. Saw this was on Amazon Prime Video under the title Alabama Outlaws Wrestling on the Indie Circuit. But something like this I want a physical copy. Now I have it.From various things in the documentary I am guessing this was filmed in 95 or 96. Set in Anniston Alabama,Iron Sheik The Maim Event AKA Alabama Outlaws aka Southern DIscomfort shows us a behind the scenes look at what goes into having a wrestling show. Most weekends in the deep south on Friday and Saturday nights high school gyms,VFW halls and civic centers have indie wrestling shows. Most of these shows will have 2 big names on the show, like how Maim Event has Iron Sheik and Bullet Bob Armstrong, and the rest of the wrestlers are all local guys and ladies. These so called weekend warriors spend Monday thru Friday working a normal 9 to 5 job. Then once work is done on Friday they pile into a car/truck and drive sometimes for many hours. To wrestle for not that much money in front of rabid fans.If you ever were curious about what happens before, during and after a wrestling show this is the documentary to watch.

I'm a huge wrestling fan and really enjoy watching independent films made on professional wrestling/sports entertainment
I'm a huge wrestling fan and really enjoy watching independent films made on professional wrestling/sports entertainment. My opinion on this DVD is it's lack of talent/wrestlers. This felt like watching a home video of your friends uncle talking about the business and why they do it. There is no big names besides The Iron Sheik & Bullet Bob Armstrong (who in my opinion isn't a superstar). It's a long documentary, but is just very boring to watch. Long story short is if your looking for a good underground wrestling documentary, or good interviews done by past stars, this DVD isn't it. This is a documentary on small towns throwing on a show. Cheaply made and straight up sucks.

Pro Wrestling as it was intended to be!
This is as real as it gets! It was over 100 degrees in the Saks High School gym when "The Maim Event" was filmed. Real journeymen professional wrestlers, some on the way up, some on the way down.. The crowd paid their money and expected a great show. That's exactly what they got! Wrestlers you know and some you don't know, but every one of them giving their all to entertain the crowd. If you want a real look behind the curtain and inside the ring, I highly recommend "The Maim Event".
