Gives Me Peace of Mind, Just Wish It Came with Better Mounting Options
I got this temp controller for my aquarium, and it’s been doing exactly what I needed — keeping my heater in check and giving me way more peace of mind. The readout is easy to read, and I like being able to set a specific range so I don’t have to constantly monitor things. That said, I wish it came with some suction cups or mounting options out of the box. I had to buy a separate suction cup to keep it in place. The cable also felt a bit short depending on where you’re trying to run it — would’ve been nice to have a little extra length to work with. What I liked: - Keeps my tank at a stable, safe temp - Simple to set up and easy to read - Gives me peace of mind when I’m not home - Compact and doesn’t take up much space What I disliked: - No suction cups or attachment parts included - Cable could be longer for more flexible placement Overall, it works really well and does what it promises. Just be ready to rig your own mounting setup if you want it to sit cleanly on the side of your tank.

Peace of mind!
Oh my gosh I love this thing. I was worried about any heater I put in the tank malfunctioning and killing my fish. The Inkbird takes over and the probe in the tank tells it when to turn on and off by simply cutting off the electricity to it. This keeps the on/off switch from burning out because it never gets used. I found it to be super accurate right out of the box. One CON: the directions. It was, for me, (not a technical person,) a sort of Where’s Waldo of how do you work this thing? I gave up and asked ChatGPT how to do it. I got walked through it in the simplest manner possible. And did I mention? I love this thing. Now I don’t worry about my betta’s tank temperature.

Awesome Temp Controller, Using with a Cobalt Neotherm 50W Heater
Great temperature controller. I use this for my betta in his Fluval Spec V, and stick the probe in the return pump section, where I have a Cobalt Neotherm 50W heater. This temperature controller gives tons of options, and is a great safety net for a faulty heater. Most heaters will fail at some point, and this will help save your tank. You can set a target value, and a heating or cooling differential/range that tells the controller when to kick on/off heating and cooling units. The adjustable hot/cold alarm feature is cool as well, and fairly loud. One note when using with a “smart” heater that has integrated temperature shut offs: set the Target Value on the Inkbird to higher than your actual target value in the water, such that it will only cut power to your heater if it gets too warm. Don’t have the Inkbird’s Target Value set to what you actually want the water to be. Doing so will flip your heater on and off pretty often, which isn’t good for the heater. Ideally, you’d want this controller to only turn off your heater in the event that it overheats the water. Besides that, operation and programming of the Inkbird is pretty straightforward, and I like that the probe can be removed and replaced if broken. The unit takes a new temperature reading every few seconds from what I’ve seen, so no worries on lagging. Overall, a solid product, and I recommend this investment for anyone even considering this product for an aquarium — it means you're already thrown a decent amount money into your tank, and this will help protect your investment.

Best InkBird controller for aquariums
There are three InkBird controllers with aquarium probes right now (Oct 2020). I've tried the 306, the 306A (wifi), and this 308S in my fresh and salt water tanks. The 308S is the best for aquarium use. The 306 and 306A temp display almost never changes. It may be tracking the temp internally as it changes, but if the display doesn't update, I don't trust it. Even though the wifi feature on the 306A is nice, it has an annoying alarm feature that makes it unusable for my purposes. I use heaters with internal thermostats paired with an InkBird so I have two levels of protection. I set the InkBird target temp slightly higher than the heater's target temp so it will stop a runaway heater. In any other situation, I want the InkBird to keep power applied to the heaters. But the 306A will alarm if the water does not reach the 306A's target temp after a user-selected time ranging from 1-72 hours. There's no way to turn that feature off. The 308S temp display changes frequently by 0.1 degrees as the water temp changes, so it's clear that it actively monitors temp. It will alarm at whatever cold/hot temp you set, but it does not have the annoying time/alarm function. It also has a separable temp probe that can be easily replaced. The downsides are it doesn't have a wifi function, and the max sensitivity for target temp settings is 1.0 degree (instead of 0.1 degree on the others). The temp can be calibrated up or down if it's not reading accurately. The 308S is also for heating and cooling. I use it connected to a heater and a cooling fan for one aquarium. For the others, I don't use the cooling feature, but I connect two heaters to the "heating" outlet using an adapter.

So Great!! Wow, a game changer for stability.
Love it! Who even knew this was an option, just happened stumble upon it on Amazon. I use a small fan that blows across aquarium service off and on through the day to help keep temp down as my multiple filters and uv light heat it up a bit. The fan works great though I do have to add in RO water to account for the evaporation from time to time. Before I had fan on a timer for a few hours a few times a day but on cooler days it could be too much and tank temp would drop or go higher then I wanted on hotter days, guess due to tank being close to windows. But with this cooling feature fan only kicks on when my aquarium temp rises one degree and truly makes consistency of temperature in the tank MUCH MUCH MORE STABLE! Only regret is I didn’t know about it sooner!!!! Also the alarm setup is a big bonus, in case my heater acts up or something else. And inkbird is well known for its more precise temperature gauging in comparison with all the crap out there. I have 6 thermometers in my tank, the same brands and other brands and every one ranges 2-3degrees. So ridiculous.
