Fantastic Watch
I'm writing this review because I couldn't find enough reviews about this watch before I bought it. I was scouring the internet looking at every forum, blog post, or article written about the Hamilton Khaki Field. Now I'm kind of a freak about research, so your mileage may vary. Also I have had this for about 3 months, and it really only leaves my wrist when I get in the shower. Initial Impressions: When I opened the box I was surprised at how nice it was. The packaging is a really sleek black box, with a smaller black box inside of it. The watch looks beautiful sitting in the box, all shiny and new. I love the look of the watch, and it does look even better in real life. Out of the box it needed to be wound up in order to get it working, but that was to be expected. I think I gave it like 10-15 turns, set the time and put it on. The leather strap was pretty stiff at first, and it wasn't really that comfortable. I had to work it around in my hands a bit for a couple days but it has since become very very comfortable. It's a very nice thick leather strap, and I'm very picky about leather products. Overall the stitching on it seems solid enough and I think it will last a long time (hopefully, it looks like an exact replacement from Hamilton is $115). Functionality: The watch just works. Part of the reason I got this was because I wanted a watch that would last forever. I got tired of changing the batteries in an old fossil I had, which looked very dated and out of style. This is automatic, so as long as you're wearing it, it works. I check the time against an online source every once (about once a month) in a while and it only gets off by about 2-3 seconds on average. I don't need it to keep absolutely perfect time, so that is good enough for me. The crown of the watch is very large and easy to operate. Twist it up to wind it (be careful not to over wind it), one pull stop sets the date, 2 pull stops stops the second hand and allows you to set the time. The date automatically changes between 10pm and 2am, so it doesn't actually change right at the midnight marker. This is normal functionality (as it states in the instructions), and you shouldn't try to mess with the date between those time periods as you can damage the internals. This is a very different kind of time piece from what I've been used to (cheap) over the years. I really like that if properly maintained it will work forever, no batteries needed. The Hamilton Khaki Field comes with no nonsense garbage on it. Time and date. No day of the week, no altitude, no stop watch, or any other crap that you think you will NEED but 99.99999% of the time all you really need is to know what time it is. I would rather ditch the noise and just have something that works, and functions how a watch should. Looks: Obviously people say it looks rugged, vintage, old military like. I love it because it looks classic, timeless and simple. This is not a watch that in 20 years I will look back and think, damn why did I get that color, or I wish I would have gotten something else. Black face with white hands make it easy to see, and will go with just about anything. The brown leather band looks really nice and if you treat it (I use Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP) it repels water and sweat from your wrist and keeps the band looking brand new (although it did make the suede on the inside look like it had been worn for years, but at least I know it's protected). Overall I think this design will last me forever. I have too many expensive hobbies already and collecting watches is not something I have the time or money for. Getting one watch that will last me forever and I will never get sick of, was my motivation. And the Hamilton Khaki Field (38mm) fills that role for me. I love the font of the numbers. They are clean and simple, and not roman numerals (which I hate!). I also like that it shows the 24 hour numbers on there as well, not necessary for me but I still like it. The red arrow at the tip of the second hand shows a nice touch of color set against the black and white. The Sapphire Crystal is still as clear and scratch free as when I pulled it out of the box. It picks up smudges and finger prints fairly easily so I just wipe it on my shirt to clean it up. But I knocked it on a metal pole once accidentally while walking around downtown and it didn't leave a mark. Cons: Just some minor things that I don't really mind but think I should mention. The highly polished rim around the crystal is really beautiful looking. I even like it in contrast with the brushed steel of the rest of the watch. But I would ultimately like the brushed steel look all over, as that part doesn't show any scratches, but the polished portion has some minor scratching already. No big deal though, it's a watch and it goes everywhere with me, there is bound to be some wear and tear. The glow in the dark numbers are not very easy to see at night. The hands you can make out easily enough, but the numbers are very dim. I've charged them with a flashlight and they were glowing like crazy but it wears off after like 15 - 20 minutes. It would be better to see the numbers easier at night. The Sapphire Crystal has a slight dome shape that really picks up light. So there is glare on it when you look at it. It could be improved but it doesn't really bother me that much. I haven't had a situation yet where I just couldn't read what time it was. Final Thoughts: Do I regret buying this watch? Not at all. In fact I think I love it a little more each day. Would I recommend this watch to friends and family? You bet. Provided they are willing to spend the money, and are willing to properly maintain it. If you don't want something that will need tune up from a professional every two years, don't get this. I take care of the things I own, even if I'm a little rough on them from time to time. This has held up to me over the past few months of constant wearing. Overall it's a solid, classic looking, beautiful watch and I'm very happy with it. Update 1/14/2013: I just wanted to update this review and let everyone know my impressions after owning/wearing the watch for the past 8 months. It's still a great watch. Of course there are a few scratches on the polished steel parts. But not a single mark on the Sapphire Crystal. The leather has also shown very little wear in that time. I wear this thing every day, the only time I take it off are when I shower (and sometimes I've forgotten take it off and showered with it on!). It still keeps accurate time too. Basically This is exactly what I wanted in a watch. The other thing I've noticed is that nobody complements me on this watch. Nobody really takes notice of it, and if they do, they don't feel the need to say something. Which I personally love. This is quality without flaunting how much you have spent. I buy quality items that last a long time, and I will pay more for that. But I don't buy higher priced items to get noticed. If you want people to notice how beautiful and expensive your watch is, look for something else.

A classy daily driver. Function AND style.
I sat in front of the screen for so long trying to figure out what model to spend my hard earned $500 on. Just go with it. Let me do the hard work for you. I'm not advocating for an impulse buy..but if you're thinking of getting this watch and you're on the fence- just hop over it. Let's get the con out of the way first. Only one con. The bracelet. I LIKE it. You may not. Many don't. Many have said it's too tight or too small. I think it is very comfortable leather and feels good. It is stiff. But...it won't be forever. The watch looks much nicer than the pictures. The polished case and leather strap makes it stylish and classy enough to wear in business casual while still possessing the specs to wear out to the field. This is the definitive starting point for Swiss watches for $500. Many have said they don't think it gets better than this. Definitely add to your collection. I was worried about 38mm being too small on a 7.3 inch wrist. It's not. The long lug length makes the 38mm present itself assertive and visible. It clings to the wrist and is super light and comfortable. It's a strap monster. It will look good with Nato, rubber, or leather. The dial is legible and sharp. The lume is average. Not bad. Not a con. I really like it and am glad I went with it. I wanted a good robust "nice" Swiss watch to wear daily to work and outside. My "daily driver". But if I swap it out in my rotation I will have nothing to fear with an 80 HOUR power reserve to keep the accurate -/+ sec per day time keeper spinning. I haven't tested the water resistance. Others have. 100m is better than 50 but wasn't the sole factor in choosing this one over the king or mechanical. It looks great and still has a true field watch soul. Nice watch! Lastly, the quality is felt in the hands. The texture the weight, etc When you wind the movement and run your fingers along the case everything just feels solid. This is my first Hamilton. How could it be the last??? But if it were to ever be my ONLY Hamilton, then I won't be disappointed having chose this model.

Stunning accuracy no buyers remorse here.
23 days ago I set this watch. It is now only 3 seconds slow! I am absolutely blown away with this accuracy! It has gained and lost time several times but never plus or minus more than six seconds. The durability is spot on so far. There are no scratches on the sapphire. As expected. For clarification I have been welding and fabricating steel on most of the days I have been wearing it. The bezel has normal scratches and wear as to be expected in my harsh working conditions. But it is a pleasant look of aged wear. The band was very stiff and odd initially, but has now taken up my wrist shape very well. The leather is also becoming darker as the oils I work with seep into it. Also a very pleasant look. I have accidentally gotten into the shower with this watch on multiple times and haven’t had any issues with how water proof it is. So now I will hit on two points that I’m not to thrilled about but aren’t enough to make me think this is a bad watch. The lumin on the numbers and hands is very weak. Somewhere along the line of pointless. It’s not that it can’t be bright. If you charge it under a light directly then turn out the light, it’s great. But if you are trying to read the time after dark and it’s been dark out for an hour or two or the watch was under your sleeve it simply is barely legible. This may be a problem with all lumin. But it is very underwhelming to me. The second item I dislike is the ringing noise it makes. Now again I am being picky. But I often sleep with watches on. But not this one. It has the most peculiar ringing tick that only persisted for half of a minute. The other half of a minute it just has a pleasant tick. I imagine it is some type of harmonic overlap or something. But either way it will wake me up. If it was a constant ring it would be fine. But the rise and fall of it can be disturbing to my sleep. Obviously the solution is not to wear it. First world problems. this is an excellent watch watch for the money!! Side note many people say it has a terrible glare and is unreadable. While it is a bit shiny they are being to picky I think.

AWESOME (updated - buy from an authorized retailer!)
After much deliberation, I bought this watch as my first mechanical. I love the size (I have the 38mm version), I love the looks, and I love the movement. I've only had it for a day, so I can't speak to durability. After 24 hours of use (about 8 hours spent sitting upside down while I slept) it's 4 seconds off. I'll be curious to see how leaving it upside down or right side up overnight affects this. The leather band is a bit stiff, I've been bending it around a bit by hand to shape it to my wrist, and I imagine it will soften up a bit with wear. Things I wanted to know before I bought it: The cover is very slightly domed, but not obviously so. The second hand moves in 1/5 second jumps, so smoother than a quartz but not completely smooth. The inside of the watch band has a suede-like covering, which feels very nice on your skin. I'd highly recommend this watch, it looks very stylish, it's not too flashy, and everything I've read says it is a quality build with quality components. UPDATES: The watch I purchased from Jomashop did not have a working quick set feature for the date - I had wind the hour hand around twice to advance the date by one day. Any watch not purchased from a Hamilton authorized retailer does not come with a Hamilton warranty, so I sent it to Jomashop for repairs (I had to cover shipping costs). When they sent it back over eight weeks later, the quick set function worked, but the watch now lost 15 seconds a day. A year or so later, I discovered the water seal was broken when the inside fogged up after I reached into a stream to get some water (100m water resistance SHOULD mean this watch is sealed against a few seconds in 6-inch deep water!). The quick set function for the date also stopped working a year or so after Jomashop "repaired" it. At this point, the Jomashop warranty was expired, not that I would have sent it back to them again. Based on advice from a comment on this review, I sent the watch in to an authorized Hamilton repair shop for a full service for $210 including shipping and tax. After just four weeks, they had replaced all the broken parts, dried out the moisture, cleaned and polished every part, reassembled it, and sent it back to me. The full service also comes with a full 2-year warranty. I guess I learned my lesson: buy from an authorized retailer! This watch costs quite a bit more to buy from an authorized retailer, but it will probably actually work to begin with, and you'll have an actual Hamilton warranty that you can trust. I ended up spending any money I saved by buying from Jomashop on shipping and repair costs, and lost a lot of time while doing it.

Fantastic timepiece.
After eying this watch for months, I finally decided to pull the trigger, and the watch is as beautiful as everyone says. I previously wore a $100 quartz Pulsar/Seiko with a stainless steel band, and I loved that watch. However, I gave it to my father as his Timex started to corrode. (And I will say, I do sill think that was the best quartz watch I've ever seen.) The Band/Strap. This watch feels much lighter on my hand due to to it's leather strap. Strap was stiff for the first day (as any leather item is) but it feels perfect less than a week later. I do not have it on snug, as I like the watch to be able to move a bit. The strap is handcrafted leather, with a soft back and feels great against my skin. (No more pulled hairs:) The buckle is solid, and has a gently engraved Hamilton logo. I may yet get a nice Zulu strap to give it a less dressier look, and be able to change the straps based on occasion. The Watch. Wow. As this is my first automatic (doesn't use a battery to run, but generates energy from the motion of my hand) I still marvel at this device. It has its own mechanism to accurately measure time. No quartz crystal, no syncing to an Internet time server, this is a self contained timepiece, independent of the outside world. Still blows my mind. The watch is great to hold, there are no sharp edges, or things to cut into you. I think that shows the experience of Swatch/Hamilton and their dedication to customer experience. White numbers on black background are easily readable. The hour numbers and five-minute dots are not just printed but are slightly raised, giving them a nice 3-D look. On the bottom of the face it does say "Swiss Made", and the back does not say Stainless Steel, as in pictures both on Amazon and Hamilton website. Initially, I was worried that this could indicate a replica, but according to other answered questions, that is not the case. And quite honestly, even if it was, I would buy another if I needed to, because this thing is beautiful and obviously high quality. Sapphire crystal face is flawless and slightly domed, but it doesn't stick out like some older watches or cheaper faces. I'm not exactly sure of the size of my wrist, I'd say medium, and the watch is neither too big nor too small. Extras: The second hand, with its red tip is what I really fell in love with, and it's a pleasure to watch it sweep across the face. (It moves in tiny increments, 5 times per second.) Hands and numbers glow in the dark (if they soak up some light), though it's not going to shine or stand out in the dark. Date complication is as expected. I know, maybe you think, who doesn't know what date it is? But believe me, once you're used to having a date on your wrist, it can be frustrating to go about without knowing it. It is a 25 jewel watch, and a few of those jewels are visible through the back window. (Jewels are used as kind of pivot points, or ball bearings, as they can withstand friction between moving parts without wearing out.) My manual is dated November 2015. Crown does not dig into my wrist, nor gets caught on my pants. Crown has a nice steady feel to it, when winding it or adjusting time. (You can wind it to give the watch some energy, but as long as you wear it every day, you don't need to.) Watch was ordered on Sunday evening, arrived on Tuesday afternoon, in great condition. I would suggest maybe using bubble wrap rather than two big pillow bags, but I'm not a shipping expert. Cons: None yet. My watch gains about 7-8 seconds per day, so in about one month it will be 4 minutes fast. I can definitely live with this. I have not yet had any issues with water, but I am mindful of it when washing hands. I never shower or sleep with a watch either. And I take them off when working on cars, server racks, or doing any home improvements. Motorcycle vibrations don't seem to bother it. Update - May 2017:Still love it, no issues. Daily wearer. Update - October 2017: no issues, no water seepage, still keeps the same excellent time. (+7 seconds/day, which is great for an automatic watch) Update - January 2023: no issues.. 7 years later. Can’t get enough of this watch.

Winding watches is a Hassle
Looks beautiful, solid, conservative. Nice simplicity, with tasteful display of hands, no junky chronometers crowding up the face. However, it is a watch that must be wound every day. I sometimes forget to do this. Haved missed appointments, and find this trait very annoying. Would not buy such a watch again. If you are typically good at remembering to wind your watch, this might be your product.

Great value, awesome watch
I've had this watch for almost two years now and it's still running and keeping time as expected. Before I bought this watch, I had a Seiko 5 SNK009 which looks very similar to this watch. It did not have a hacking or winding function and it also gained 10 to 13 seconds per day. After reading reviews on forums and on Amazon for a good six months, I pulled the trigger when I got my first raise at my first full-time job out of college. Though it was a manual labor job that got me greasy, I decided to buy this watch because it was not fancy and did not gather attention like a diver's watch would. What made me decide on this watch was the face diameter. At 38mm, it felt at home in my 6 3/4" wrist and did not feel bulky. I could move my wrist around without the crown snagging against the top of my hands. The seconds hands has a painted red tip which offsets the black dial in the back, leading to good visibility. Compared to the other versions of Khakis, this also sealed the deal for me. The design of this watch is purely utilitarian and beautiful at the same time. It is plain and simple. In terms of the movement, the ETA2824 is a tough movement. I've accidentally banged the watch around multiple times while wrenching on bikes, against doors, and from everyday use. My Seiko on the other hand broke the rotor after a year and a half of use. The hacking function was also a welcome change. I could set the time precisely against my phone. I found that my watch gains 5 seconds per day. This is good for an automatic watch for the price. I love this watch. This was, for the most part, my daily watch for the past two years and it had a lot of wrist time. I bought it when I got my first raise as a bike mechanic and I wore it when I quit that job and moved on with a desk job. It was a watch I wore when I have to suit up or when I go out to the bar with friends. I've taken this watch to numerous trips and it has never skipped a beat.

Amazing buy
This watch is absolutely gorgeous in person! I watched countless videos on the different variations available from Hamilton and wound up going with this one. I was really deciding between the Khaki auto and the “Murph” khaki auto because I’m in love with the movie interstellar. I will say that I’m not very familiar with my own personal wrist size but I know it’s not large at all so I didn’t want to get a 42mm because my seiko skx007 fits just perfectly and it’s around the same size as this Hamilton khaki. I will say that the size surprised me and I for some reason expected it to be a bit bigger due to how it was displayed on peoples wrists in pictures and videos. I bought the official Hamilton nato strap and I’m not disappointed in the slightest. You do pay $55 for a strap on their website but it comes with a tool that is actually very nice quality as well and the packaging is proper too. The Hamilton box the watch comes in is very very stylish and well put together. Dude, for $465 you CANNOT beat this watch. My seiko is nice for sure and I only paid $165 at the time for my seiko skx so I wouldn’t compare the two but this Hamilton is amazing for the money. If you’re on the fence about purchasing this watch like I was… BUY IT! You will not regret it. I’ll just say, maybe go to a jewelry store that has them before you buy it on Amazon so you can try it on. The sizing might not be what you’d expect but other than that it’s awesome. The leather strap that comes with it is quality but it’s honestly kinda small and it’s super super stiff leather so I’m glad I bought the Hamilton nato strap in advanced! Cheers.

Very Happy
Very understated, unpretentious, and great value for money for this high quality Swiss Watch. It also has a great following among collectors. The build quality here is fantastic, and not only is this a tactile experience, but it has amazing accuracy, and an 80hr power reserve. I like Seiko, but a similarly priced Seiko gets you nowhere near the quality of this thing. As I said, it’s understated, and wears small on my 7.5 inch wrist. It comes with a very nice, high quality leather strap, but I put it on an HDT Bunt strap, that not only makes it wear a little larger, but it is the most comfortable strap I own. This watch is for someone who wants nothing flashy, but of superb quality, from an American-Swiss company of high repute

Great watch. Smaller than most big dials on many watches these days, but that’s a positive. Only slight downside is reflective glass that would benefit from AR coating, but not a deal breaker.

Precioso y gran calidad

Buen proveedor, buen producto, buena compra
