Cuts down on Sinus medication
Since using the Air Cleaner in my office space, I've gone from take 3-4 Advil Cold and Sinus pills, plus supplemental aspirin a day to make it through allergy season to two or less. Right after I installed it, I didn't take anything for 2 days straight. I do think a slight bit of thought on design would solve the handle problem. The first time I picked it up using the handle, it slipped right off and clattered, loudly, to the floor. One must use two hands to lift it, though it's very light, or use the dimple of the control switch as a thumb grip, and then, cup it with the other hand. A simple recess for the fingers in the handle would solve this nuisance.

This is NOT a HEPA filter! It's an imposter!"
I actually can't review on this filter's performance because I have not used it. I did take it out of the box and plug it in at the store, and it is very easy to do, like others have said. I'd like to point out that this is NOT a HEPA filter. This is Black and Decker's trade marked product, a "HEPAFresh" filter. The company said, when I asked, that is is a "HEPA-type" filter. They did admit, when pressed, that is it not a true HEPA filter. This product only filters "up to 99%" of all airborne particles. A true HEPA filter, get's 99.97% of all airborne particles as it catches a smaller particle size. I notice people are saying that their other filters (which are true HEPA) are getting dirtier in the same amount of time and that is because this filter is of inferior quality when compared to a true HEPA. If all you care about it filtering is animal dander, hair, dust in the air, then it's fine, because the particle size is large enough, this will catch it, but if it's smoke or something with a smaller particle size, it will pass right through this filter. I'm returning mine unused, because I wanted HEPA quality for my filter.

Doesn't pass the flashlight test
This air purifier is already setup for the user. Just unbox and plug in.Like other air purifiers I own, this model uses two filter types that stick to each other. So the dust/pollen/odors first get caught in a charcoal filter and then a hepa filter. My old Honeywell and Holmes models have a bigger footprint than this upright B&D but they also catch more dust. These other models are square shaped versus this upright rectangle. I have no idea why they work better. If the filter is better or the suction. I just know that the charcoal filter on the other models is dirtier after the same amount of time. The light is too bright. I put tape over it. The sound is fine by me. I like white noise. Here is the rub for me. My bedroom is small. I have my door shut and I ran the filter for a week and cleaned the room good before I started. I can still see what I think is too much dust flying around in my flashlight beam which is how I test.

Love this
helps reduce dust and you can really tell that it works. The three speeds helps to reduce noise at night when I need it too.

Simple & Effective -No Great Surprises
The Black and Decker Hepa Fresh Air Cleaner shouldn't cause you any "Wow moments" but that can be a good thing in this age of super high tech - touch command world. It's a lightweight-3settings-Air Cleaner that runs quietly and effectively.Taking it out of the box to the floor requires the removal of the styrofoam shipping protection and the plastic covering (there's a teeny bit of irony in the fact that the "odor remover has an odor" - It's just the smell of new plastic and seriously a non-issue but fun to mention for the sake of being able to use the word "Irony" correctly). The directions show an extra liner of plastic on the filter but there was none on my filter. The directions also draw the Pre/Charcoal filter as being about 1/3 as thick as the Hepa Filter and they write about it in what I think is a misleading way(page E-5 in the manual). This "Pre-/Charcoal Filter" as they call it is simply a thin, very thin, layer of foamy like substance (I'll take their word for it about the Charcoal) that uses a velcro-like strip at the top to attach to the HEPA. Then they number the filters like this:1. Pre-Filter combined with2. Charcoal Filter3. Hepa FilterSo I was looking for a 3rd item. You can stop looking. It's that thin foamy thing that they're "wordsmithing' to sound more important that it looks. And believe me, it doesn't look like much. The controls are manual, with a Lo, Med, and Hi ability that when turned, light up the rather LONG green power light. I checked to see if the light was tied to the filter as an alert but it isn't, It's just a power light. The Pre-/Charcoal filter gets a Vacuuming every month (according to the directions) and the HEPA they suggest to buy a new one when it is Grey or Black and no longer white.Overall, it's a surprisingly simple but effective machine from Black and Decker that carries a generous 3 year warranty and a fairly high price. It took the bacon smell, left from my ravenous nephew, from the kitchen in about 10 minutes on hight; That was impressive. For the quality, simple design and the fact that B&D will potentially be making money from the filter "Re-purchase" I thought the price (even the Amazon price) was a bit high. But that's just a consumer opinion based on my personal finances. If you have a room that needs dander and smell gone in a relatively fast and quiet way, this unit could work for you!

Nice fan, but not a great filter
This air filter makes a spectacular fan. It has 3 levels and runs pretty quietly. It's very easy to use, straight out of the box, just plug and run - making sure it isn't positioned too close to a wall or furniture.Unfortunately, I didn't find that this item filtered the air very well. After a month of daily use, I removed the filter to clean it and found minimal dust and filtered things. With the amount of dust I clean in that room, as well as how much of it I find in the vacuum cleaner every week, I know it should have filtered a much larger amount out of the air. People also smoke in that room, and our area has recently had a large spike in pollen. It does a great job moving the air around the room, but it doesn't seem to be doing much else.
