The Complete Bluegrass Banjo Method Book/Online Audio

Essential for the Budding Bluegrass Banjoist
I bought this thinking I'd be the next Tony Trischka. But I've kind of soured to bluegrass, mostly because my fingers just don't move like they should. Kind of wish I had bought a clawhammer manual instead. But if bluegrass is your poison, you won't regret buying this book.

A very good book
A very good and thorough introduction, good for someone with no banjo experience.

very helpful
This book is very comprehensive, including music theory, notes and tab, as well as a CD that helps hear what the rolls and strumming patterns are supposed to sound like. A worthwhile investment.

Distinctive Arrangements
I could identify his arrangements from anyone's. If you are over the beginner's stage of playing the banjo, this book furnished some really great, up-the-neck arrangements of tunes you have probably already learned in the open position. It's a great supplement to any book you already have!

GOOD BASIC BLUEGRASS BANJO INSTRUCTION
Excellent book for learning bluegrass banjo. It's very easy to follow. I like the sequence of the presentation and also like the fact that the music is shown above the tabs, a rarity with most banjo instruction books.

Excellent beginners guide
Freds teaching is always simple and straight forward. I've found his books and DVDs to work well with my less than virtuistic skills. This is an excellent Banjo tutor for the beginner."The complete bluegrass banjo method"

Real good method and very helpfull CD.
First and foremost "The Complete Bluegrass Banjo Method" truly is a "banjo method" (contrary to some other so-called music "methods"). Very progressive, well made and extremely helpful in order to learn and or gradually improve your skills. Maybe not made for advanced banjo players, but it can bring you from not even knowing what a bluegrass banjo exactly is to play very decently at an intermediate level. For a guitar player like me who owns a banjo but doesn't really master it, it is not only totally relevant but you can go through it from cover to cover and greatly improve your skills fairly fast and easily. As for the CD, it's again one of the best I got a hand on. It's a very good support and addition to the book and adds some pretty relevant commentaries and good tips & advice, helping you throughout the book and is almost as helpful as a DVD. Best music book I ever bought including guitar of course. I would recommend it without hesitation to anybody who wants to learn how to play or improve its skills either to play at an intermediate level or prepare to reach up to an advanced level afterwards and push it further.

Recommend for begining pickers
I find this book really helpful to learn several different roll patterns as well as melody picking for the three finger picking style. His CD is helpful to play along with, however I did have to play it at like 60% speed through an app on my phone before I could play with the CD. Otherwise I was just left in the dust.
