Mediocre at best
I am an SAT tutor in Critical Reading and Writing so my evaluation does not pertain to the Math. The problem with this book is that the person writing it is not that sharp! For example, he says that you must read the passages literally which is correct, but he goes on to say that "if a passage says person A flew to Vegas or somewhere, you cannot assume he flew by plane and that you must assume he has wings. This is complete nonsense. Although we do need to take things literally and not add to the text, words have figurative meanings and that is "okay" on the SAT. This is just one example, but throughout the book there is lot of this sort of missing the mark.In addition, the practice questions do not even come close to real SAT questions, so they are a waste of time. Very subtle differences, but nonetheless important ones. The author should not have been so bold as to assume that he could come up with equivalent questions which is a very hard thing to do.I really wanted to like this book, because I am always looking for useful info to add to my list, but I was disappointed.I also disagree with the method he advises for Critical Reading. Obviously it worked for him, but that is really not the best method at all.Lastly, the organization of the book leaves one somewhat dizzy. The price is not bad, but unfortunately, your time will be wasted as there are better books out there. Some of the information is useful, so if you are willing to read the book critically, and pick and choose what you listen to, you may find something useful. Again, I did not evaluate the Math at all.I am a graduate of Yale Law School and an SAT tutor, in case that helps you see where this advice is coming from.

Review.
This SAT book really facilitated my studying for the SAT's. Thereare a few strategies that didn't particularly help, like the use of atemplate or writing the main idea and writing down your own answerto a question. The former is a recipe for a contrived essay wherein you'reforcing an essay and ideas into a rigid structure, and the latter is simply too timeconsuming. On the lighter note, the vocabulary is great--it seems to be compiled formall the recent SAT tests, and many of which I saw on the actual exam. Themath strategies are REALLY helpful and save time and effort. Overall, I wouldrecommend this as a start up resource whereby you can introduce yourselfto general strategies and how to practice, but then you should aim todevelop those techniques via practice.

A 2400 Scholar Shares His Wisdom
Shaan Patel has translated his own experience with the SAT into an easy-to-understand and apply 7-step program--that anyone can use--to do better on the exam. As a former English teacher, I can attest to the usefulness of his approach for the literature and writing section of this difficult test. It really echoes the best practices I tried to use in my classroom, and it concentrates on how to learn what you need to know, rather than memorizing the top 100 books or terms in literature. The only memorizing he does is with SAT vocabulary--a notorious weakness for today's students, who (as Shaan attests) do not do a lot of reading. If you use his method of memorizing vocabulary, however, it is doable and can fit in nicely to anyone's schedule. I have bought this book for my grandson, the daughter of my nail lady, and a friend who is an Academic Manager with our school district. It's a book every high school student should have.

Best SAT guide for anyone who has trouble studying 1000 page books!
I've just received this book in the mail a few days ago and have already learned so many tools that I know will for sure help me on the SAT. The book is structured in a way that is easy to follow not only because of the organization but the way Shaan writes. He makes the book FUN to study for the SAT! This book is great for people who prefer text that "sounds" like its personal rather than formal. His explanations for math problems actually MAKE SENSE to a high school student rather than the explanations given by College Board. His "homework" he gives such as memorizing word sets, making lists, his checklists for the week and memorizing certain things can be overwhelming but will definitely help in the long run! TWO THUMBS UP!

Must Get for SAT Prep
I recommend this book to all teachers that help students do well on SAT and to Self-Motivated students as Shaan Patel. You will find this enormously helpful in providing you a step-by-step method to prepare for the SAT. The vocabulary set-up, the detailed approach to short passage and long passage achievement is useful. If you work through this with someone else, gain feed-back from a fellow student, teacher, parent you can expect to raise your score significantly. Don't forget: this will have greater use if you have already taken the SAT at least one time, as the student you will more easily relate to what anyone teaches about How-To take the SAT if you do that first.

This book is excellent.
I got a 1570 my first time taking the SAT and was disapointed so I bought this book because I saw Shaan Patel advertise it on a show. In 2 weeks of using this book, I've raised my score to a 1780. This book requires you to have many SAT tests so I recommend you use this with the blue book. Also on the App Store you can download "Veritas SAT prep". It goes hand and hand with the book with the questions on review pull right out and into the videos on the app. Very good!

Moving up
My daughter wanted to take the SAT but I told her that she should study first so far I have bought this and given it to her to practice and pick up new things that she may need to know for the test. I am struck by the things that our children need to know now. So many more things than what we did. When I was in school we only had numbers in our math and now there are letters!!! I am learning a lot as well. A true learning experience for us both.

It has been excellent. Shaan is a real genius. His strategies, particularly in writing and essay are outstanding .I felt the writing section easy after practicing them. Reading is also fine. The way he told in the book on how to approach reading passages is very helpful .I did not learn his math strategies. I hope they are also good. Thank you Shaan
