Large "J" Curved Tool Rest, 14" Wide, Standard Post

Best toolrest I've ever come across. Perfect fit for my Powermatic4224B lathe.

I would have gladly given this tool 5 stars but the tool rest post was apparently left unfinished after being cut to size. The edge was so rough and sharp that it would not fit in my tool rest base. This was not a very serious problem since I was able to easily fix it with a file but given the price of this tool, this should not have been necessary.

Robust makes the best tool rests, period. They are very solid and vibration free, and very smooth. This one has a long straight section, then a sharp curve at the end. I expect this will be my main rest. I've been turning for about 5 years now, and have a Oneway rest, 2 straight ones from Nova, and the Robust. There's no comparison.

The rest is well constructed very solid. It doesn't work out in my oneway 2036 though. The tool post I received is only partially useful on my oneway 2036 lathe. It sets way too close to the machine centerline. Measuring down from a center in my tailstock the top is less than 1/4" below the center point. I can't cut to the center of a bowl with any of my medium to large bowl scrapers. They are thick tools and quit cutting at about 1" to 3" on diameter from center. To cut to center with a scraper I have to use a small one, and pull the rest away from the bowl,and tilt the scraper down! I have a number of bowl gouges and it is pretty nearly useless with the large ones. I have a robust 9" straight tool rest, it sets between 5/8" and 3/4" below my centers. That one works well.. I have messaged the retailer to see what my options are. It is a pretty tool.

This didn't really fit my Oneway 1224 lathe. I had to cut off the bottom of the pole and cut off pars of the the slanted bottoms of the tool rest in order to get the tool rest to sit at the right level to cut the middle of my bowl. On the other hand, I couldn't find a longer rest that would be useable inside a deep vessel I was making.

Very rigid. Makes hollowing deep bowls easy. Very little vibration even the extreme end of the rest.

This tool rest has become my favorite one and I use it almost all the time. Very versatile, and well built.
