If you're lost with Windows 8
I give this item only four stars because I am barely into the part of the book on Win8 and haven't even opened the "Office" section of the book yet. With little or no knowledge of this OS I've found this book to be Manna for my Win8 operating appetite. I haven't used anything MS since the years that I used to use XP - as far as I was concerned XP was the best for many years, and still holds its own. I switched to Mac several years ago just to get away from MS/BS after 20 years of them, and I have been happy with Apple ever since. But that's another story.I needed a laptop that would run a MS compatible software so I bought an inexpensive Toshiba (nice laptop) and it came with win8. Mr. Rathbone to the rescue. His discussion of Win8 is clear an concise and almost too mundane, even for a dummy like me. He simplifies everything so much it makes you wonder why you needed the book in the first place - the so-called "Start" screen is no longer an obstacle. This too, made me wonder what all the whoop-la was about - piece of cake.Haven't tried the DVDs yet but if the book is any indication.........Try it if you're lost with Win8......the price is right, too.PS - After setting up the laptop, I realized I was going to have to start dealing with all the spyware, malware, virus protection, and all those pesky "clean-up" tool ads that flood the market.

who's the dummie!!!!
I bought what I thought was going to be a great tool for my new lap top with windows8. Have been waiting to get it for the past 8 days and it finally came!!!! Yeah!!! Yes, it's a book but in fine print on the photo is DOES say portable edition. At my age I can hardly see the book, and have to squint to see the words What a waste. BUYER BEWARE. Having second thoughts about Amazon.TOO SEE A PRODUCT IS TO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE ORDERING.

Good buy
Could have had more pictures with the explanations. Visual aides are easier to follow and refer to. Good buy though.

Good product that is well illustrated
I have referred to these books and dvd bundle many times while learning to use Windows Access and Excel programs. They are handy references that stay on my desk. Good product that is well illustrated.

Windows 8 & Office 2013 for Dummies
These books took 2 days to receive. In the interim I was ready to tear my hair out. Once received I sat down and looked for information on the problems I was having, being many. The solutions were easy to find and understand. Hey presto, I was now cooking on gas. I especially like the shortcuts and tips suggested. Without these books I might have taken the pc back to the shop. I would definitely recommend them to everyone who has just purchased a pc with windows 8 as they are exactly what the title says, a book for dummies. You will be amazed at what your learn and what you can now achieve on your pc.

Does the job
Didn't realise this was a pint-sized version of the normal 'Dummies' series so illustrations are a bit dull and small, but as I'm totally new to 'Windows' it got me up and running pretty quickly once it arrived. Only problem was the length of time it took to get the book delivered. I ordered the book 2 days before I ordered the computer, thinking they would arrive more or less together but the books arrived over a week after the computer. Not impressed, as I've come to expect much much better from amazon.

I didn't know where to start with Windows 8.1
I've just purchased a new desk top computer, it runs on windows 8.1, which in the showroom looked quite simple to use. But found it quite confusing to use when I started it up at home, I couldn't set it up for my requirements. Then I purchased the book and CD's Dummies for Windows 8.1 and Word 2013. With an hour I'm starting to get to grips with both Windows 8.1 and Word 1013. I think this is a must for understanding both of these programmes. Would highly recommend to people new to Windows 8.1 who feel a bit confused by all the tiles and different ways they have set things up.

Windows for Dummies
I found the Windows 8 and Office for Dummies for useful. I had just purchased a windows 8 computer and as it was so different to windows 7 \I could not have been able to start the comp-uter without dummies. The dvd's were excellent. Worth every penny and more.
