Very good product idea. Simple to use, functional for the purpose, quiet operation.Five stars for the product.One idea to improve the product: Please replace that hard-to-read VU meter-style % dialwith a 4-LED bar display or something. Very hard to read that analog dial in lighting available in a typical garage.Funny that the Product picture shows "CHARGING" on display without even being plugged in!Boss told the asst: "The display looks black - make it show something"So, asst photoshop'd something on. "Yes, boss, It is done"I wish my unit also will "charge" without being plugged in.

I've had this charger for a number of years, and it's been usable, but it's never been great. I think it finally gave up the ghost.First off, this charger is highly sensitive to what input amperage to have it connected to. On my 20a circuit in the garage, it works to charge batteries, but only if you don't use an extension cord. With an extension cord, or on circuits that are 15a, it rarely works correctly. It appears that it's charging, but doesn'tAdditionally, now, it appears when I connect it to my (newish - I purchased this battery last year) lawn tractor battery when it happens to go dead because I left the lights on or something, it simply keeps repeatedly switching between different output amperages. So, I'll connect it to the battery, it'll beep, start displaying 'Charging... 12.5amps` in the LED display, then, before the message has a chance to scroll, it'll change (presumably to a different amperage), which will cause it to display the message again and beep. This continues indefinitely, and doesn't seem to be charging the battery.

although not as sturdy as I would have liked, It does what its supposed to. Well worth the $30.00 if all you need is a charger. -BigBill

This Black and Decker Car Battery Charger impressed me. Years ago,,I was an auto shop teacher and I was NIASE national repair mechanic certified. Right to the point, this unit used the latest SMART TECHNOLOGY to automatically and safely charge a car battery. A car had the key on start for several hours, the engine would not turn over and the lights were dim. After hook up, the charger gave readouts as to the increasing batter voltage, when fully charged, it indicated so. It also indicated the per cent of charge as it increased. Reassuring. It also can indicate alternator condition and can do a quick start. Note that with jumper cables I could have started the vehicle but would have had to drive the vehicle for some time to recharge the battery. Very important to know is that it will NOT charge a dead battery - think,,, a dead battery is truly deceased, and can not be brought back to life. But this charger might get you a start so that you can go to your auto parts chain store and get a replacement battery installed free. I also have the "auto shut off" Black and Decker tire inflator, and it still works flawlessly. I really believe the Black and Decker car battery charger is a gem worth having in the garage, and recommend any of them in this 37 dollar price range or above. I do keep a set of jumper cables in the work truck. FINALLY, wear safety glasses, please, when connecting or any other mechanics play with car batteries. Over the years, I have seen accidents and near injury from novices or not paying careful attention. BUY IT !

Stopped working after the 30 days. Contacted the manufacturer, and could not get any response. Could have been unlucky with a bad unit, but I could never get anyone to return my phone calls or emails.

I though that that it was cheaply built, and was not worth the money . Of I would have known of the poor quality I would not have purchased this product

For its price, by far the best automatic 10-amp charger that I've seen. The alternator checker is a freebie that performs just as well as the charger. I think it's suitable to leave in circuit for cars in long-term storage.

Works well. Like the fan so it stays cool. Dont like that you cant charge completely dead batterys. I had to use a manual charger to start the dead battery then used this one to charge it.
