It carries water away from the house well.
It works very well, but is flimsy, blows around in strong wind, and must be sheltered when not in use because of its thin plastic. I'm buying it again because overall, it's better than the large non-collapsible rain gutters that break anyway.

Don't waste your money on these Thermwell products
The downspout extender details were not documented very well in the description prior to ordering but I could tell as soon as I opened the box that they were not what I expected. As others have stated, they basically made of heavy duty trash bag material with a few holes punched in the end. The tie-strip is a joke and certainly won't hold up in a decent rain storm. I needed a rain diverter that would keep the flow of the downspout from washing out the landscape area but this is just an extender with a wide opening at the end. It rolls out with a rain but then has to be hand rolled back into place - very inconvenient. Unless a person just needs to extend a downspout 5' or 6', I recommend looking for a different product.

Decent little item
I got to see mine in action today and was pleased. I attached it to the downspout with electrician tape and guided the extender off to one side where I wanted the water to go. I was pretty pleased. Cheap and effective.

Works for funneling water, does NOT retract
For what I needed, which is extending the gutter to remove water from near the house - this works great. It was easy to install and can handle any amount of water coming down your spout. For what I wanted - which was something that would not be conspicuous, it fails miserably. This does NOT re-roll itself. Once unrolled from a light rain, only the very end re-rolled slightly (once) and then not even that after the wind blew it around. Now it's simply a green banner to blow along the side of the house and I have to manually re-roll it each time.Long-term, I will be tossing this and running a PVC pipe under my driveway for a more permanent and less MacGyvered looking solution.

Not the item pictured.
I bought this because I needed to replace a my current downspout. On the package and in the listing it says and shows that this should roll up with the rain stops and roll out when it rains to divert the water. It needs wire inside to do that. This has no wire and is just basically a plastic tube. I can't use this at all. It was a waste of money. Without wire its just a plastic tube that will just flap left and right in the wind till its blown off.

Never again
I have purchased this product twice. Last year it worked well, sometimes the wind changed its placement just a little but it served its purpose directing the water away from the house. This year the plastic is way thinner and keeps flying around as soon as there is just a little wind. When it finally lands, it is all twisted and if I don’t notice it and go outside to keep it straight, it either sends water in the wrong direction or it doesn’t allow it to flow at all. Very disappointing.

It Works
All of my downspouts are connected to city drain but one which was emptying out next to house and sloping towards basement. It's a 120 year old house and basement was always wet when it rained. This gets the rain away from the house. Temporary fix but solves an immediate problem.

Will need to be replaced yearly if you have winters.
I use these from the downspout to the garden in the front of the house and from the downspout laid over my sidewalk into the drain pipe. Both work very well and safely direct rainfall away from the foundation. I will gladly replace them annually.

Waste of money
Did not work as promised. Did not roll up. Blew around. Did not provide a good seal.

Fairly Disappointed
We bought these in hopes of getting rain water as far from our house as possible, especially because we have a walk-out basement with challenging grade. We found that it was hard to keep one end on our tin downspouts, and noticed that if there is a wind, it will redirect the water or tangle when the wind blows them around (which for us is a problem because of our grade). We put a heavy rock on the end of each one, but then the water can’t flow out as quickly. We also noticed that 2/4 already have ripped even though we had only had them for 1 month at the time. May work better for people who live in the city on flat land.

Doing the job
You have to fix it over the drainpipe with not included tie-wraps. Otherwise function well, unwrapping with heavy rain but you have to roll it back manually. Doing the job to distract rain water from the fondations!
