By the numbers, overly literal account of the band's career trajectory. Little insight of them as people, Brocks background, or their influences as musicians.

grow up
If you are going to bash a book, at least buy it and read the whole thing, while i do agree that it should be called a "semi ok yet quite confusing read" fans of modest mouse (i am myself) will find the book quite interesting. I payed a total of 4 bucks for the book and was well worth it.

Humor, Controversy, Facts, It's all there...
I'm not a Modest Mouse fanatic, by any stretch, but I don't know what all of these other reviewers are talking about. I just finished A Pretty Good Read, and found it to be a a fun twist on the unauthorized biography. Goldsher's take on the band and their music is as insightful as it could possibly be, without having had access to the band members themselves. This is not a gossipy, trashy bio. It demonstrates the author's respect for the band's music, and he tells it like it is when it comes to the biographical elements. It should also be noted that as a former musician, Goldsher's "interludes" and music analysis laced throughout the book are fun and help to prevent the book from becoming a chapter by chapter account of Isaac Brock's attention weilding antics. Perhaps Goldsher is worthy of a more complex subject such as Miles Davis or Bob Dylan, as opposed to a band who clearly has talent, but staying power? A fine job from an author whose upcoming fiction I look forward to reading!

you're better off just skipping to the works cited page and ...
This book would only be interesting at all to a hardcore Modest Mouse fan, but the hardcore Modest Mouse fan probably already knows most of the information in this book before reading it anyway. The info in this book has all just been pulled from previoisly published articles and interviews, with a lot of the author's long-winded rambling on his own opinions and speculations in between. The interview quotes are interesting, but honestly if you're a super-fan looking to learn more about Isaac, you're better off just skipping to the works cited page and looking up the interviews and just reading those for yourself, without two hundred pages of some dude's ramblings in the way

Who cares.
This book is written in a way which is B-B-Boring. I can read a 400 page book in 2 days. I couldn't bring myself to read this, and I love reading about bands. I love Modest Mouse, but whoever edited/wrote this needs to gracefully resign.

It’s hard to get past the intro
This is an incomplete review and I will update it as I read it. I’m a few chapters in and I just really want to punch the author in the face. Him trying to set the tone for the concert was the worst.

A Pretty Good Read- it really isn't
All the articles from which the author draws information are available online. Very little original information in the book, if even that. Don't waste your money unless you're interested in pages and pages of track by track album reviews.
