i have 3 pomeranians, will this smell bad with every day use? how long does it last? how do you keep it clean? and are dogs tempted to dig on it?

I have an 80lb Malamute who uses it everyday. I keep it outside under a covered balcony. So far no smells and it usually lasts about a month. I water it every few days. I think the digging depends on the dog. Mine doesn't dig in it. Very important to use their spray that comes with it!

I have a small enclosure for my cats. The grass is very little. Would this (taken out of box) work outside too. At least for a little bit?

Yes it would work outside I think. If I were you I would not take it out if the box, but I used it for a dog.

Is the plastic tray reusable for the extra large

Yes! You keep the plastic tray and just order the refills of grass. Once your dog gets used to going on it you won’t want to be without it!
