BUY IT!
STOP LOOKING THROUGH THE PAGES OF NEGATIVE REVIEWS OF AMAZON.COM RAIN GAUGES AND BUY THIS ONE.I make an effort to always check reviews before buying nearly anything. Even something as simple as a rain gauge. The way I look at it; if a review is available, use it.That being said, when I went to purchase a rain gauge, it seemed as though every single gauge Amazon.com sold received horrible reviews. Finally, I had to just bite the bullet and get one that seemed nice enough to not completely disintegrate in my garden...Well, this is it. This gauge has been nothing but a blessing. It is tall enough, large enough, clear enough, sturdy enough, and performs well enough to accurately measure rainfall and temperature in my garden. I haven't owned it for more than a year, but so far it has maintained it's excellent shape and readability through crazy MI weather. My only gripe, and it's really a very tiny gripe if a gripe at all, is that you have to be within about one degree of angle when viewing the temperature gauge to see the liquid level. So what?Be all of that as it may, this rain gauge is the one for you. Purchase with confidence. I cannot tell you what grade of metal this is made out of, or what thickness of plastic was used in fabrication because a.) I'm not a materials specialist, and b.) I DON'T CARE. It tells me the temperature, collects and accurately measures the rain, and hasn't melted/shattered/cracked in the heat, snow, or rain. Call me simple, but that's a good rain gauge in my book...

Great Looking Rain Gauge
This product comes with 3 metal stakes which lift the gauge and thermometer about 2-3 feet above the ground. I like that both features are easy to read. I installed this in the middle of a 3-acre experimental plot to determine rainfall for our test seedling trees. My neighbor lost his rain gauge when the glass tube froze. I am experimenting by adding one inch of whisky to see if the alcohol will keep the water from freezing inside the rain gauge. There may be a better way but using this approach I will get a rain gauge cocktail every time I empty the glass tube.

Thermometer way off
Thermometer is way off. We live on east coast of FL near a small airport. Weather Channel and AVIA Weather both are saying 77* F and it feels exactly 77* F outside, but this thermometer is reading 92* F lol... it has never been right since we received it

Accurite thermometer/rain gauge
Sturdy, well made. Nice and large. I like that it has a rain gauge as well. I’m not sure the thermometer is reading the temperature accurately though, it seems to be reading about 10 degrees higher than what it should be.

Simple, easy to read from a distance
I like being able to read from 10 feet or so away. I also like the rain gauge combo. An issue, and this shouldn’t have been a surprise, the temperature reading is way off on the high side when the sun is hitting the thermometer, and it is just something to understand. Still, it is an attractive, practical product.

Lasted right at 1 year
Rain gauge almost 1 year from the date of purchase. Plastic developed cracks at the base of it and would lose the water that had been capturedThermometer never was accurate unless the sun wasn’t beating down on it

Replaced one that lasted 8+ Years
Bought this to replace an almost identical one (think by same manufacturer) that had lasted 10 years. Plastic on tops and bottoms oxidized, cracked and fell apart after 8 years & husband kept 2 more years by taping together. Mfr should consider black plastic with carbon black in composition to avoid oxidation but think 8 years is doing pretty good. New one is lighter almost Kelly green so may not hold up to oxidation as well as the old one. Would probably last many years longer if plastic composition changed - wouldn't cost more to fix...add BPA and C black to black plastic & would b better. But maybe black affects temperature read by thermometer? Nice to have thermometer and rain gauge on same post. Thermometer had just fallen out of our old one.

nice decent sized temp and gauge
our ground is as hard as rocks right now in PA so it was hard to put it into the ground. I put it in and then it blew over. I'm not the strongest person so I blame myself for that. I just didn't want it to sit in the box for a year. We had the exact same rain gauge before and it lasted 6 years I hope this one last that long as well. I think this time I'm going to take it in during our winter and maybe we will get some more life out of it. I have it that we can see the temperature in the house, but the rain gauge is facing our walkway. It sometimes is nice to know the temperature....but not when it is 90+ degrees!
