The first collection to cover the entire career of one of London's most intriguing punk bands! Siouxsie Sioux and her Banshees added a goth tinge to the British punk sound, eventually landing on the U.S. charts with Peek-A-Boo and Kiss Them for Me ; those join Hong Kong Garden; Israel; Dear Prudence; Dizzy; Stargazer; Arabian Knights; Cities in Dust, six more Siouxsie als! Review: SIOUXSIE & THE BANSHEES IS A SENSATIONAL COMPILATION!!! - The Best of Siouxsie & The Banshess is a compilation that should be held as a "template" for any compilations to follow! This CD has songs spanning not 1 decade or 2, but 3!! I believe, due to the very nature of their sound, it works!!! Sometimes, compilations for 1 decade don't work out this well, never mind 2...that they can sound very "helter-skelter", to borrow from another Beatles song!! I believe this may have been taken into account here, as the songs are not in chronological order, so, perhaps, that, too is reason for better "flow". It's a compilation, so you would be accurate in anticipating it to be "all songs winners, no fillers" and you'd be absolutely right. Of course, not everyone may agree & I could even by-pass Hong Kong Garden, but the rest is phenomenal!!! Siouxsiie (Sioux) & The Banshees were ahead of their time & while they do have a devoted fan-base, they should be larger & more well-known. SATB did get "tagged" as Goth, which I've read they were not happy with & to be fair, they do both embody Goth & manage to, at the same time, transcend it; showing just how meaningless genre's can sometimes be. Nonconformist? I will say yes to that, because thinking back, especially to the 80s, no one sounded like SATB!!! They were complete originals, utterly fantastic and throughout their career always ahead of their time (not that anyone, to this day, even comes close to anything Siouxsie & The Banshees released)! I won't go though this song-by-song. I will just say "Dear Prudence" ranks up there as a cover that's better than the original and I just love it when that happens - it's such a wondrous surprise & that it's better than the Beatles...well, there's no more than can be said on that point...that alone should demonstrate just what an exceptional band this is!!! I wasn't familiar with many of the songs on here, but did purchase it on the strength of "Kiss Them For Me" (after catching a music video for it on MTV classic, which is, amazingly, showing video's once again!) and "Dear Prudence"! Siouxsie and The Banshees are an extraordinarily talented, immensely creative & imaginative band that defies categorization!!! I am now quite happily familiar with all the songs on this amazing CD...particular newfound favorites, behind the aforementioned would have to be "Cities In Dust", "Spellbound", "Christine" and all the rest!!! This is a remarkable "Best Of" & it's a wonderful place to start, or, I'm sure, any existing fan would love it as well & I highly recommend it!! Review: GREAT album to get a wonderful mix of Siouxie & the Banshees - I bought this album for two reasons: it has my favorite Siouxie & the Banshees song "Cities in Dust" plus "Christine" and "Happy House," and at the time it was in my price range. Oh boy what a good collection of songs! The only thing that could have made it better would have been to include "Red Light," my other favorite Siouxie song, but you can't always have everything you want. What makes this worth picking up for the fan who already has all their albums is the second disk with 9 remixes and alternate versions that are such a pain in the rear to find. The included booklet also has a nice synopses of the band and some neat pictures, adding another splash of 'worth it' to the whole thing. Plus it all comes in a neat little sleeve to keep the case all shinny and give careful CD owners bragging rights years from now when they can show off that the sleeve is still spotless. All in all, I think it's a wonderful buy for both Siouxie collectors and people who want more good music on their MP3 players. Now, I just have to go find "Red Light" in my price range...

Not for the purist, but a great intro to SATB
SATB had way too diverse a catalog to be able to assemble "hit" songs into any reasonably coherent and comprehensive compilation. But this is as good as you can get for a single disk trying to do so. Here's a warning to the purists out there: some of the song intros and outros have been added to help with the transitions on this disc and are not part of the original recording. They are minor, but noticeable if you're a fan. Otherwise, there are a couple of great songs that are hard to come by without either spending much more money on an import or the time to track down a used copy or limited edition print.
